The mauve tone is spot-on, but it doesn't quite reach berry territory. It's a cool-neutral shade, not cool-toned. Since I usually apply lip color on a clean canvas, I was honestly surprised when this lipstick showed up with that deep undertone richness. I even checked my purchase history to confirm I bought the 988 mauve-berry shade. If you have more pigmented lips naturally, this might lean more toward that berry finish on you. That said, the staying power and grip are fantastic, so I'll definitely keep using it. This is a product where the color payoff really depends on your individual lip tone. In photos, the lower lip shade is such a gorgeous mauve berry! It has a matte finish but applies so smoothly and effortlessly. The cool-toned my-lips-but-better shade is absolutely perfect for me. It looks so sophisticated and natural while still having that special something! The way it blends and diffuses across my lips is just stunning. When my lips are dry, it doesn't adhere to my lips as beautifully as I'd like. While it does help smooth over any dry patches when I apply it, on really parched days I notice a distinct line forming along the inner lip area, kind of like when a yogurt separates. I'd definitely recommend applying a lip balm first before using this. It does tend to transfer a bit, which is something to keep in mind.
