As someone who's obsessed with retinol, I've tried The Ordinary's retinol that everyone raves about, and while it does have a bit of a kick to it, I'm really impressed! When I see how amazing my skin looks the next day, I'm convinced it's worth it. Retinol really is the real deal!

I really recommend starting with the same brand's 0.2%, then moving up to 0.5%, and finally to 1%. Here's why: if you skip these steps, there's a 99% chance you'll experience irritation. I learned this the hard way when I jumped straight to 0.5% and dealt with some serious side effects. You might wonder why I kept using it despite the irritation. When I first started with retinol, it wasn't as widely available as it is today. So I went back to 0.2% and slowly built up my skin's tolerance. That's when I noticed my complexion starting to glow. From that point on, I gradually worked my way up to 1%, and honestly, I only use three tiny drops of the 1% formula. Three drops is plenty because it's incredibly potent. There's no need to use more when a little goes such a long way. Here's the most important tip: always pair it with a rich regenerating cream. The results are literally doubled. Since 1% is already quite strong, I don't recommend using it with just a lightweight hydrating cream because your skin can become extremely dry. After spending time learning about skincare and cosmetics, I've discovered that retinaldehyde is now available as a more stable alternative to retinol. So I'm planning to use this 1% product on my body and switch to 0.5% for my face.

Make sure you start with a different concentration level and don't forget to apply it together with a regenerating cream.

I found it works wonderfully when you mix it with a body emulsion and apply it to your body. It's especially effective on areas where you want to speed up cell turnover, like elbows, knees, and heels.
