When I wore heavy makeup or had irritated skin, I applied the base and then used just a thin layer at the end, and my skin stayed hydrated all the way through the next morning. If you have very oily skin, I wouldn't recommend this. It has a slightly greasy feel, so I think it would work better for people with very dry or dry skin types.
