I noticed a few critical reviews, so let me break down why they might have felt that way and share the advantages I've discovered! 1. Opulence is the true original vaseline-finish highlighter! There are so many highlighters out there these days with trendy names like "dewy glow" or "water-light shine," but after trying quite a few, Stila really nails that authentic vaseline-finish look. It's absolutely gorgeous. It has a wet gel-like texture with no base color, and it reflects light through tiny white pearl particles. While it's labeled as "white" pearl, the light bounces off so brightly that it just looks like luminous pearls—nothing artificial about it. In bright light, it catches the glow like rippling water. 2. No base color means it doesn't feel heavy, and the pearl reflection creates the glow. I think the brand really understood the assignment here. To achieve that smooth, shimmering glow without any heaviness, they completely removed the base color and added multiple sizes of pearls (small to medium) that break apart gently like sunlight on water. I think some reviewers who bought Opulence expecting it to be super subtle were surprised by the slightly larger pearls—that's probably why. The pearl sizes range from metallic pearls like the upper-right area of Dior Rose Gold to shimmer pearls like the lower-left. Personally, I don't find this distracting for a highlighter, but since we tend to prefer ultra-fine pearl finishes here, it might feel different. With Opulence, it's prettier when you use a brush to pick up a little and apply it thinly, then build it up if needed. Since it's a gel formula, applying it with your fingers gives good adhesion, but controlling the amount can be tricky. Center - Stila Silverlake, Right - Stila Opulence I really enjoyed using the Innisfree Filter Edition 3-shade highlighter, and I was searching for something similar. The Stila 3-piece highlighter set has comparable shades and performance. But honestly, Stila looks so much prettier. It has more sparkle and shines with such a gorgeous radiance. I kind of regret not buying Stila from the start - I wouldn't have wasted money hunting for similar highlighters if I had. Apply it by picking up a small amount on your fan brush and gently buffing it onto your skin.
