The color payoff is impressive at just 2mm application, with excellent staying power and absolutely stunning light-reflecting properties. Stila really nails it with their shimmer formula. That said, the shade is quite dark and muted beige, so it needs light to catch and show its true brightness. Rather than giving a fresh, luminous look, this product delivers a glamorous, radiant effect when light hits it. It has a distinctly metallic finish. The base shade itself is dark and neutral, so the shimmer effect is really just about light reflection rather than the color itself appearing brighter or more luminous. The shade doesn't naturally lift or brighten on its own. This is my fourth repurchase and I'm loving it. The color payoff is really strong, but you can sheer it out for a more natural look if you want. As long as you don't rub it after applying, the wear time is impressive - it stays put from morning all the way through the night. The shade is absolutely gorgeous, and I appreciate that it's in pencil form rather than a brush, which makes it so much easier to use. The only downside is that there's no retractable mechanism, so you can't see how much product is left. I've always been curious about this product because it's so popular, and I have to say the shimmer really does come through beautifully. Since I tend to keep my makeup on the lighter side, the shimmer feels a bit too intense for my usual look, so I don't find myself reaching for it often. Also, once you twist it out, it doesn't retract back in smoothly, so you need to be careful with how you use it.
