Purchase background: I have extremely dry skin, so I use an intensive skincare routine with rich formulas. This often causes my eye makeup to smudge easily. As a result, I found myself touching up my makeup several times a day. Curious about how others maintain their makeup, I asked at a Bobbi Brown counter. The incredibly helpful staff member recommended applying this product before layering on color cosmetics! While this eyeshadow is colorless, the difference between using it and not using it is remarkable! Pigmentation: The eyeshadow helps control oil without causing dryness. By managing oiliness, it allows other eyeshadow colors applied on top to appear more vibrant! Texture and performance: First and foremost, it has the incredible advantage of preventing creasing, and it also offers long-lasting wear. When I used to start with regular base colors from palettes, my skincare would cause pilling, resulting in a messy application. This product, however, evens out my skin tone perfectly for a clean start. There's nothing particularly negative to mention. It's pricey, but you get a generous amount. There's a slight excess of powder, but it's not a significant issue. I use this as a base to control oil. I can proudly say I've hit pan on this product! - ma*****Combination SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsSebum/BlackheadsEnlarged PoresRecommendedAug 21, 2022
It's surprisingly challenging to find a good base shadow, but this one has a natural color that's neither too light nor too dark. Though, as I have monolids, I think a shade just slightly darker would have been perfect. I bought this after watching Pony's makeup tutorial where she mentioned that applying a base shadow improves the color payoff and longevity of the eyeshadows applied on top, and I'm pleased with the results. However, it's quite powdery and kicks up a lot of excess. Talc is the first ingredient listed... This seems to be its only drawback. It works well when applied with a fluffy, soft eyeshadow brush. Just make sure to control the amount you pick up. - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinAtopic SkinRecommendedJun 16, 2021
The color on the left in the photo is the actual product, while the right shows how it looks on tissue paper! It's not just a plain white shade, but to my eyes, it gives a very subtle calming effect compared to my natural skin tone. The yellowish tint seems to make it look more soothing and clean. It's exactly skin-tone, but it brightens darker areas while slightly toning down lighter areas! It's great as a base color, but sometimes I just wear this with some shimmer and go out. I have monolids, so contouring doesn't really suit me, but I like that this doesn't make my eyes look puffy without needing additional shading. There's a bit of excess when applying with a brush, and the price is a concern... - ge************Combination SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinRecommendedAug 21, 2020
This is an excellent base shadow for prepping the eyelids before applying eye makeup The downside is that its powder-like base color doesn't make it a go-to for everyday use. I only reach for it when I'm putting extra effort into my eye makeup - ol******Oily SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsJun 14, 2019
The color is ivory with a matte finish. It's worth noting that this product has almost zero pigmentation. It's more of a base product, ideal for preventing eyeshadow smudging. There's no scent, and you get a generous amount of product. It's a solid choice for laying down a basic, no-fuss base. There's nothing particularly bad, but the lack of pigmentation is noticeable. Not only is the color subtle, but it barely shows up when applied. If you apply too much, it can make your eyes look puffy and white. Best used as a base - yi*****Dry SkinRecommendedMay 23, 2019
This is the best product I've found for use as a base eyeshadow. No matter what color you apply over it, it enhances the vibrancy of your point color and maintains a bright complexion. It's definitely a must-have item I'll keep repurchasing. While the price is a bit steep, you do get a generous amount of product. I can't think of any real drawbacks. For maximum staying power and color payoff, try this routine: MAC Prep + Prime 24-Hour Extend Eye Base, followed by this cream shadow, then your regular powder eyeshadow on top. - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinAtopic SkinAug 25, 2017
If I had to describe the color payoff, it's like applying foundation eyeshadow to your lids! While it's a completely basic ivory shadow without any shimmer, laying this down really brightens up the eye area as if you've applied foundation there. It looks incredibly pretty and natural. They say you can even use this as an eye primer! (It prevents creasing and helps the main colors you apply on top pop more.) This is definitely an item you'll find yourself reaching for constantly. Highly recommended! This isn't an eyeshadow that gives you a distinct color payoff. It simply brightens up the eyelid area. If you're looking for a light beige shade, I'd recommend searching for something else!
