In my opinion, this foundation works well for both dry and combination skin types. I heard good things about Make Up For Ever's HD foundation, so I went to the store and tested the HD pump version on one side and the HD stick version on the other. The stick version suited me better! While the stick applies a bit thicker, its coverage is much better! After seeing me use it, even my mother, who prefers moisturizing products, went to test it and didn't mention any dryness (though that might be because the store staff applied it with a brush). I have combination skin and use a sponge to apply the foundation. Even so, I didn't feel it was dry or matte. Compared to Shiseido - the Shiseido stick foundation has a powdery finish, while the Make Up For Ever stick foundation feels more elastic and dewy. After fully applying with a sponge, the Make Up For Ever stick foundation actually gave a glowy finish (though I personally don't like glowy base makeup, so I always finish with Innisfree No Sebum powder). Anyway, while it feels a bit thick when applying, the coverage is good and, most importantly, I think it has great staying power! The Shiseido stick foundation didn't last long, but the Make Up For Ever stick foundation has great longevity - so I plan to keep using this foundation for a while!
ConsAs it has such good staying power... it's hard to remove. If you just wash with foam cleanser, residue remains on your skin. On days when I'm exhausted and want to quickly cleanse with just foam cleanser and be done, it doesn't work. I strongly recommend first using cleansing oil (or cleansing water), then following up with foam cleanser. At first, the elastic feel of the Make Up For Ever stick foundation felt strange compared to the powdery finish of the Shiseido stick foundation, but I got used to it with use. I think it would suit anyone with dry or combination skin well. However, since it's not exactly cheap, I recommend trying a tester at the store before purchasing! Those with oily skin might not like the elastic and glowy finish, so I strongly advise testing it in-store! I'll repurchase because I like the decent coverage and staying power. While I'm slightly disappointed it doesn't have a powdery finish, that's easily solved with some powder to finish.
