While the amount is generous, it's perfect for those who use it daily as part of their routine. It might feel rich at first, but once applied, it's not greasy at all - more like a nourishing boost for your skin! If you have oily skin, I'd recommend applying a thin layer. As someone with combination oily skin, I can say it doesn't seem to clog pores. When you're almost finished with the product, you'll notice the balm is fixed to a plastic container. You can actually dig out more product from there, but it can get a bit messy. I wish there was a cleaner way to use up every last bit of the product. When I finished mine, I used a sanitized stainless steel tool to scoop out the remaining balm stuck inside and transferred it to a sanitized mini cream jar to use it up completely. - sy****Dry SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsInner DrynessMar 3, 2025
I bought this after seeing it on a crowdfunding platform. The ingredients looked good and the reviews were positive, so I decided to give it a try. It has a herbal scent, probably because it's handmade. The texture is a bit oily, with a slight stickiness when applied. They claimed it's effective for wrinkles, but I'm not sure about any significant results. However, when I apply it as the final step in my skincare routine before bed, my skin feels less dry in the morning. Being handmade, it's a bit pricey for the amount you get. Also, since it doesn't contain chemical preservatives, they recommend refrigerating it, which made me reach for it less often than I expected. True to its name 'Black Sugar Balm', it's a dark oil balm that slightly darkens the skin when applied. Because of this, I only used it before going to bed. - Hwahae UserDry SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsRecommendedMay 19, 2024
Absorbs well, keeps skin hydrated in the morning, and effectively reduces fine lines While the ingredients, feel, and application are great, the price is a bit disappointing Mixing it with essence makes it much more hydrating and it absorbs even better - vj********Dry SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsRecommendedJan 24, 2024
After using this product, people asked me what I'd done to my eyes! It works wonders on wrinkles and dryness! The price might be a bit steep, but other than that, it suits me so well I can't find any faults! Just apply it generously before bed, and in the morning your skin feels incredibly hydrated - ro********Dry SkinSensitive SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsWrinkles/ElasticityEnlarged PoresDec 8, 2023
I used this for improving neck wrinkles and as a substitute for gua sha massage oil. After about two months of use, it seemed to help with wrinkle improvement. However, with daily use, I'm not sure if it's due to the product's color or just my imagination, but my skin tone became a bit dull. Since it's a pricey product, I now apply it only to the areas with neck wrinkles to avoid waste. My boyfriend, who has oily skin, stopped using it because it caused blemishes. - jm***Combination SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinRecommendedJun 20, 2023
I usually get blemishes from anti-aging products, but this one didn't cause any, which was great. It does feel a bit tight on the skin though. That's why I use the Black Sugar Gommage Balm for anti-aging care. It comes in a stick form, so it's convenient to apply anytime. Among oil balms, this one seems to be less sticky. I wish the stick was a bit thinner. It's a bit chunky, making it uncomfortable to apply around the nasolabial folds, mouth, and eye areas. If you apply too much, it can feel a bit greasy. It's not like an oily film though, so it's not too bad. - po*****Dry SkinAcne SkinRecommendedJun 15, 2023
This is my absolute favorite among all cosmetic products. I lightly apply it as the final step in my skincare routine, and it works best when followed by facial rolling or gua sha. Being a bit lazy, I sometimes just apply it and do a quick roll later after finishing my business. It's an oil balm stick, so it doesn't fully absorb, but it doesn't feel heavy either. It's like a protective layer that stays on your skin. In the morning, you can still feel some of it there. Sleeping with this on means zero dryness, just nourishment and hydration. I always use it on days when my skin feels dry, and I truly feel like it's preventing wrinkles. It's not the type that fully absorbs even after a long time, so it might transfer to your hair or pillow. However, this texture is what helps prevent wrinkles, so I wouldn't really call it a drawback. - bo*****Combination SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsDark CirclesWrinkles/ElasticityEnlarged PoresMay 28, 2023
As someone who used to hoard the Black Sugar Goji line, I was enticed by this product during its initial crowdfunding release and bought a set of four. I've been using the soap, toner, cream, and ampoule from this line, and this ampoule balm is a natural extension of the series. Being wax-free, it doesn't feel heavy on the skin even when applied generously. Despite its high oil content, it doesn't feel greasy either. However, due to years of raising my eyebrows, my forehead wrinkles are beyond repair, so I didn't notice any significant wrinkle reduction. On the positive side, it's easy to use, has great hydration, and despite containing herbal ingredients, it doesn't cause any blemishes. Due to its balm formulation and container design, there's quite a bit left inside even when it seems empty. If you dig it out, it lasts quite a while. I bought four, gave one to my sister, used one, and stored two for later use. After moving, I opened a new one and noticed a rancid oil smell. The expiration date is 2024, but the original pleasant herbal scent had changed to an oily odor. I checked the others and they were the same. When I contacted customer service, they gave a vague response saying that refrigeration helps maintain the fragrance (though the packaging only recommended, not required, refrigeration - I had kept it in a bookcase), and that while the product hasn't spoiled, I should test it on a small area to check for skin sensitivity. I was disappointed as I had considered this brand to be good at communicating with consumers. I've been using it on my face for a few days, but stopped due to the smell. I'm unsure whether to continue using it despite the odor or just throw it away. For those who've purchased the Black Sugar Goji Balm, make sure to store it in the refrigerator or a cool place. I applied it as a final step after my cream, but I noticed on the website that they recommend applying the balm before the cream. - to*******Combination SkinAcne SkinRecommendedApr 14, 2023
This product does an excellent job of maintaining a dewy glow and hydration. When applied before a gua sha massage, it feels like it's infusing your skin with abundant nourishment. There's nothing particularly disappointing or unsatisfactory about this product. - wo***********Combination SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinRecommendedMar 9, 2023
I have super-duper sensitive skin that breaks out with blemishes even when using products with zero harmful ingredients if they don't suit me. My skin goes haywire if my evening routine gets too heavy, so I'm forced to be on a skincare diet. I highly recommend this to those with dry skin who can't use rich formulas. I was skeptical if this oil balm-like texture could tackle deep dryness, but it absorbs quickly after application without feeling excessively oily (I do reapply around the eyes and mouth). Even products that work well for me can suddenly be rejected by my skin after daily use, but I'm on my third purchase of this product. Definitely recommended for those with ultra-sensitive skin! The packaging is a bit outdated for the price, and the volume is quite small. Also, when you're nearing the end, there's a surprising amount of product hiding in the container (like a lipstick). It feels wasteful to dig it out with your nails, which isn't very hygienic. First, apply a light layer over the entire face. Once you can see it's been somewhat absorbed, gently massage a bit more into drier, thinner areas like around the eyes and mouth for best results.
