It takes care of pores, brightening, and firmness all at once. The trendy bakuchiol is a natural, powerful firming antioxidant with fewer side effects than retinol. I was drawn to bakuchiol, often called nature's retinol, because it maintains anti-aging benefits while reducing side effects, improving signs of aging like wrinkles, dark spots, and blemishes. I've been using it consistently due to its great ingredient composition, including 1% vitamin C derivative, high-molecular hyaluronic acid, Sophora root extract, green tea water, panthenol, and vitamin E. It had a brightening effect that made my face radiant, along with a cooling sensation. I use it in two ways: first, applying it like a mask right after cleansing, rinsing off after 20-30 minutes, then following with my usual skincare routine; second, using it as a sleeping pack after my skincare routine. Alternating between these methods proved even more effective. My skin feels hydrated and has a glow. When my face was irritated in summer, using it as a mask also had a soothing effect. The pack's scent isn't artificial; rather, it has bakuchiol's unique natural fragrance. I applied it without any aversion, though it had a slightly chemical scent. Surprisingly, even after about 3 hours of application with the included spatula, my skin didn't feel dry. However, it seemed like it would take several rinses to wash off completely! I was amazed to see my skin immediately brighten. I thought it might be temporary, but even this morning, my complexion looked clearer from within! (It doesn't instantly make you a shade 17 - that's unrealistic.) I personally prefer more translucent skin, and this pack seems to meet my needs. The best part? No breakouts... It's incredible! This is what I love most about it. My skin becomes brighter and more radiant. It gives a honey-like glow, brightens the complexion, and evens out skin tone. I could feel my skin becoming more moisturized and softer. It whitens the face, makes the skin smoother, and is great for soothing. It not only improved deep dryness with its moisturizing effect but also helped with pore improvement. Bakuchiol benefits include: anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, whitening through MSH inhibition and tyrosinase inhibition, anti-acne properties (better than 2% salicylic acid), antibacterial effects inhibiting C. acnes, and regeneration (anti-wrinkle) through collagen formation and inhibition of collagen breakdown.
ConsApart from the high price, I haven't found any downsides while using it. If the price were a bit lower, I'd definitely repurchase it since the ingredients are gentle and there are no side effects.
TipWhile bakuchiol is less irritating than retinol, those with sensitive skin should still patch test before use. Bakuchiol is used in various cosmetics, either as a retinol alternative or in combination with it. A 2019 study published in the British Journal of Dermatology involved 44 patients over 12 weeks. They either applied 0.5% bakuchiol cream twice daily or 0.5% retinol cream nightly. Results showed that bakuchiol and retinol similarly reduced facial wrinkle surface area significantly. However, 59% of the bakuchiol group saw improvements in hyperpigmentation compared to 44% in the retinol group. The study concluded that bakuchiol works similarly to retinol for wrinkles and pigmentation, but with less skin stinging, burning, and itching than retinol.
