I was super excited to try this cleanser after hearing it was recommended for combination dehydrated skin as a morning cleanser. The cleansing experience leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean, and the charcoal particles are quite large, providing a bit of a scrubbing effect. It definitely helps control oil, so if you have oily skin, this could be perfect for removing excess sebum before applying makeup. However, I think my expectations might have been too high! Despite its reputation, it's not something I'd repurchase. While it cleanses thoroughly, my skin felt dry pretty quickly after washing. Also, those large particles? They felt a bit harsh on my skin. Unlike the Black Angel Fresh Cleanser, which worked wonders on my blackheads, this one didn't do much for my pores. I was hoping for a daily blackhead-fighting routine, but no such luck. I wouldn't call it a gentle cleanser either. Even when I used it alone in the morning, applying any skincare with niacinamide afterwards made my skin sting. It might be a bit too strong for morning use. If you have sensitive skin, you might want to think twice about this one! Apply the foam to your T-zone to control oiliness! - tu******Oily SkinMay 18, 2025
It's good for mild use. The reason I chose this is that I wanted to control oil and sebum, but in the summer, it doesn't seem to work well with this. I can't seem to remove the oil and sebum. It's great for mild use. - du*****Oily SkinAcne SkinRecommendedMay 4, 2025
1. Cleansing I received this as a gift and I'm impressed with its cleansing effectiveness. I was worried because it's a soap, but it's better than the foam cleanser I was using before. I'm very satisfied with it as a second cleanser too. 2. Exfoliation I'm not sure what it is, but it has some particles that provide a scrubbing effect on areas where sebum is a concern, like the nose. After massaging it in and rinsing off, my skin feels incredibly soft, so I use it daily. 1. Dryness Although it's better than regular soap, it still causes some dryness, probably because it's a soap-based cleanser. After washing, I immediately apply plenty of toner and emulsion. 2. Melting Since it's a soap, it tends to melt quite easily. If it were a full-size product, I'd use a soap dish with a cover, but mine is a sample size so I can't. I'm trying my best to use it in a way that prevents melting, but it's not easy. - ro*********Dry SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsSebum/BlackheadsDark CirclesWrinkles/ElasticityEnlarged PoresRednessRecommendedOct 26, 2024
I received a small sample along with another Lush product I purchased. It lathers up nicely with fine bubbles and leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean. The formula has noticeable granules, which makes me worry about what effect they might have if left on the skin. - du*******Combination SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsSebum/BlackheadsInner DrynessEnlarged PoresRednessSep 16, 2024
I got this product after being persuaded by a Lush sales associate. I was initially tempted by the claim that it's a cleansing soap that controls sebum. As someone with combination dehydrated skin that gets super oily in summer, I found it really useful from June to August. After using this product, my blemishes have significantly reduced! However, being a sebum-removing soap, it can be drying... Even in summer, a toner is absolutely essential after use! Being a soap type, it's difficult to store, and above all, its black color means the lather is also black... It's a real hassle as the sink gets dirty quickly. While the product works great, I'm considering switching to a regular foam cleanser due to storage issues. - tj**********Dehydrated SkinSensitive SkinSebum/BlackheadsDark CirclesEnlarged PoresRednessRecommendedJun 2, 2024
It effectively controls oil and rinses off cleanly. It's great to use this instead of foam cleanser after using cleansing oil. While it's a bit disappointing that soapy water runs off due to its bar form, you get used to it quickly and it actually becomes more convenient. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinRecommendedMay 22, 2024
Cleanses thoroughly, removes dead skin cells, and helps refine skin texture Dissolves easily, making storage inconvenient, and the charcoal powder can feel rough and cause tingling - er*****Oily SkinSebum/BlackheadsInner DrynessEnlarged PoresDead Skin CellsRecommendedApr 8, 2024
You know how everyone gets mesmerized when they walk into Lush and just can't help buying something? Well, I fell under that spell too, and this product has become my absolute holy grail! As someone who used to only use cleansing foams, this cleanser leaves my skin squeaky clean and has completely eliminated my worries about whiteheads and excess sebum. It's incredibly effective at cleansing and I absolutely love it. I highly recommend it without a doubt! The only slight downside is that if you don't immediately follow up with your skincare routine after cleansing, your skin might feel a bit dry. - Hwahae UserDehydrated SkinSensitive SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsSebum/BlackheadsWrinkles/ElasticityEnlarged PoresRednessRecommendedMar 28, 2024
I've been using this product since my 20s and I'm still using it now in my 40s. It has some small particles, so those with super sensitive skin should be cautious. However, when used every few days, it makes my skin feel incredibly smooth and I love it. For those with sensitive skin, the particles might feel a bit rough. - tp********Combination SkinSensitive SkinAtopic SkinRecommendedFeb 21, 2024
I bought this product because I heard it had great cleansing effectiveness. It contains fine particles, so I wouldn't recommend it for those with super sensitive skin or atopic dermatitis. The charcoal ingredient leaves your skin feeling refreshed and squeaky clean after use. I usually use Dove soap, and for my normal skin type, using this product two to three times a week seems to be just right. I think this product would suit more people if it didn't have those fine particles. It would be great if they made a version without them. For those with combination to dry skin, I think exfoliating two to three times a week with this product would be beneficial for removing dead skin cells.
