I've been using this product consistently since it was first released. Let me share my honest review with you. ✔️Application & Absorption The texture is a light, water-based formula. It absorbs well, but leaves a slightly sticky feeling. However, it layers nicely without pilling, even when applied in multiple coats. Just be careful not to overdo it, as too many layers can result in residual stickiness. ✔️Ingredients & Quality It contains a combination of effective brightening ingredients like niacinamide, arbutin, and tranexamic acid, which are great for targeting dark spots and uneven skin tone. The gentle formula makes it suitable even for sensitive skin types. ✔️Pros Excellent combination of brightening active ingredients Absorbs quickly despite initial stickiness Gentle enough for sensitive skin Gradually evens out skin tone ✔️Recommended Skin Types Ideal for those concerned with dark spots, hyperpigmentation, or uneven skin tone Especially suitable for sensitive or dry skin For dry skin, pair it with a hydrating serum for best results Oily skin types might find it a bit heavy ✅This brightening serum is perfect for daily use to improve skin tone without any fuss. It's a great addition to a consistent skincare routine! ✔️Cons Results are gradual rather than immediate - consistency is key Might feel slightly heavy for summer use Price point is a bit high for the amount of product I'm serious about addressing dark spots, hyperpigmentation, pores, and skin firmness! Here's my routine: 📌Morning Routine First essence -> Pure Vitamin C -> Dark spot serum -> Centella cream -> Sunscreen 📌Evening Routine First essence -> Dark spot serum -> RH Retinol -> Niosome Panthenol Serum -> Centella cream - ve**********Combination SkinAcne SkinRecommendedJun 7, 2025
As someone deeply committed to brightening, I'm naturally fair-skinned but prone to freckles and blemishes with even minimal sun exposure. After years of regular laser treatments, which were effective but costly and sensitizing, I've decided to limit those to once every three years. To compensate, I've immersed myself in studying brightening products. As Hwahae users know, ingredients trump brands. My non-negotiable brightening ingredients are: 1. Pure Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) 2. Ethyl Ascorbic Acid / Ascorbyl Glucoside 3. Niacinamide (5%+) 4. Tranexamic Acid (2%+) 5. Retinol (0.1%+) Bonus ingredients: 1. Arbutin 2. Astaxanthin Naturally, no single product contains all these, so I layer multiple. The Layer-Lab ampoule impressively combines ingredients 2, 3, and 4 - a rare find due to formulation challenges, potential irritation, and cost considerations. I apply my brightening regimen in the morning to preemptively combat UV exposure. Post-cleanse, I layer a Vitamin C ampoule, spot-treat with a high-concentration Vitamin C cream, follow with this ampoule, and finish with a high-concentration Tranexamic Acid cream. After switching to this ampoule a week ago, I've noticed a difference. While brightening typically requires months of consistent use, my complexion already appears clearer. Though it's likely the cumulative effect of my comprehensive routine targeting melanin production and shedding, the visible improvement speaks to this product's efficacy. No significant drawbacks. If pressed, I'd mention the packaging - its squat, flat shape takes up more space than expected. When using brightening products, it's crucial to understand the melanin production process and choose products that target each stage effectively. - be********Combination SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsInner DrynessWrinkles/ElasticityRecommendedJun 2, 2025
I've finished one bottle and I'm on my second now. This is the first microbiome serum where I've actually felt the effects. It seems to work even better when used together with vitamin C. I'm pleasantly surprised that it's not as drying as I expected, which is quite satisfying. The price is a bit steep for the amount you get. When my skin isn't in the best condition, I can feel a slight irritation. - mj******Combination SkinAcne SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsRednessRecommendedMay 25, 2025
The way it absorbs is pretty decent, and I appreciated that it didn't cause any irritation. After application, it feels quite sticky. It seems like you need to wait a while before using any other products. I think it pairs well with Layer Lab's retinol products. - p9*****RecommendedMay 14, 2025
It's great that it absorbs well, applies smoothly, and doesn't cause any troubles. Hwahae The price being a bit expensive is regrettable. - 14*****Dehydrated SkinSensitive SkinSebum/BlackheadsDark CirclesWrinkles/ElasticityEnlarged PoresRecommendedMay 13, 2025Reviewed by The Hwahae Testers

After using it for about 3 weeks, the blemishes around my nose faded and my complexion became incredibly radiant...! - It absorbs well and has a nice texture when applied. - The hydration is great, so it seems suitable for all skin types. However, it might feel a bit heavy for oily skin... Nowadays, as it's getting warmer during the day, I use this plus two ampoules -> finish with sunscreen, and my skin doesn't feel dry at all. In summer, those with oily skin might find it a bit heavy. As someone with combination dehydrated skin, I found the hydration to be good. It doesn't feel like a hydrating ampoule though! Since it flows easily when applied, you need to spread it quickly - uj*******Dehydrated SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsDark CirclesRednessDead Skin CellsRecommendedMay 12, 2025Reviewed by The Hwahae Testers

Feels like applying a lightweight toner Absorption: Absorbs extremely quickly, likely due to its water-like texture. It sinks into the skin rapidly upon application Feel on skin: After application, it glides on smoothly and absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving a very firm and hydrated feeling. It fills in deep moisture. However, it stung a bit on areas with blemishes or wounds Scent: Almost fragrance-free. No noticeable smell, making it suitable for those sensitive to fragrances Dark spots and blemishes: After use, dark spots and blemish marks seemed to fade, making the skin appear brighter and more radiant. I've been concerned about acne scars, pigmentation, and dark spots, and after closely observing the patchy areas on my cheekbones, I noticed they gradually became less noticeable. It seems effective, but consistent long-term use is necessary to see significant before-and-after differences Overall impression As someone with combination dehydrated skin, I found this product to be a good match. It feels like it fills in the skin without being too heavy, absorbing lightly. Unlike using serums and creams that can be too heavy and cause blemishes or oiliness, this provides adequate hydration with just a single drop, striking a good balance. However, it did sting and feel irritating on wounds or popped pimples, so it's not particularly gentle as it's a functional product. It might be too intense for daily use morning and night, so I'll probably alternate it with other products and use it occasionally I'm not sure if it's clogging my pores or if it's due to the heavy texture typical of combination dehydrated skin products, but I can't use it daily. My sensitive combination skin started developing what looked like pustular blemishes. When I stopped using it, the blemishes disappeared and my skin improved, but they reappeared when I started using it again I might need to reduce usage to every other day or once every 2-3 days, or use it only once a day instead of both morning and night While it's not extremely sticky, those who dislike any stickiness might have mixed feelings about this product Personally, I found that it works well when paired with a moisturizer that doesn't feel too heavy, as some combinations can feel overwhelming - qp******Oily SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinRecommendedMay 11, 2025Reviewed by The Hwahae Testers

Given my job, I'm often outdoors, which makes addressing aging and melanin care during the day not just an option, but a necessity! If I slack off on my skincare even a little, my complexion becomes uneven and dull, with blemishes and dark spots becoming more noticeable. When my skin sends these signals, I turn to anti-aging cosmetics for help among various care methods! The dark spot serum has a light, watery texture. It absorbs well, making it perfect for my evening routine without feeling heavy. It's packed with various brightening ingredients that visibly improve my skin with continued use. It maximizes melanin production prevention with three key ingredients that work in three stages: 1. First defense: Prevents melanin production signals (3% Tranexamic Acid) 2. Second defense: Inhibits melanin production (2% Ascorbyl Glucoside, 1% Ethyl Ascorbyl Ether) 3. Third defense: Suppresses melanin transfer (pigmentation) (7% Niacinamide) This intensive care helps address the root cause of dull skin. Additionally, it contains Vitamin E, Beta-Glucan, and Carnosine, which further help maximize melanin production prevention. I highly recommend this to anyone concerned about dark spots and hyperpigmentation! The special airless container from Layer Lab ensures that the high-performance ingredients maintain their efficacy until the very last drop, which really boosts my confidence in the product! Are there any downsides? Every drop counts! I was initially worried because I have sensitive skin, and many products with such potent ingredients can be irritating. However, this serum has passed human clinical trials for suitability on sensitive skin with a 0.00 low irritation rating, making it quite mild to use! My evening routine to combat signs of aging and address melanin care after a long day: 1. Clear Tone Dark Spot Serum for blemishes and dark spots 2. RH Retinol Serum for synergistic effects! One advantage I've discovered through Layer Lab is that I can deliver essential ingredients to my skin without overlap in my evening routine. As I find myself spending more time in front of the mirror worrying about dark spots, blemishes, and sagging skin, I want to encourage those with similar skin concerns to try Layer Lab's Clear Tone Dark Spot Serum. Let's get through this summer together! The Layer Lab serum makes management easy, addressing dark spots, pigmentation, and blemishes at their root while simultaneously providing anti-aging care! - ma******Dehydrated SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinAtopic SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsSebum/BlackheadsDark CirclesInner DrynessWrinkles/ElasticityEnlarged PoresRednessDead Skin CellsMay 11, 2025Reviewed by The Hwahae Testers

Apparently, this product is famous for its whitening properties, so I had high expectations. To cut to the chase, it seems this product doesn't quite suit me. Without knowing better, I applied a generous amount hoping for significant whitening effects, but that backfired... The irritation was intense, causing redness that quickly turned into small bumps. Still, for the sake of testing, I tried applying a small amount only at night, wondering if that would be okay. In the mornings, I avoided it due to makeup and potential irritation, so I used it at night along with a moisturizer. Personally, I found it hard to notice any whitening effects... With the redness and bumpy texture that appeared, it's difficult to say much about its effectiveness. On the bright side, it has a light texture and absorbs well. Once it's fully absorbed, applying a cream on top makes the skin feel even more hydrated! Despite its 0.00 low-irritation rating, I'm not sure if it just doesn't suit me or if it was bad timing with my skin condition, but this test yielded somewhat disappointing results. I plan to try it again after using a calming mask for a few days, but if my skin reacts badly again, I'll have to conclude it's just not compatible with me! I'll update with additional feedback after trying it again later. - po*******Dehydrated SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinSebum/BlackheadsEnlarged PoresDead Skin CellsRecommendedMay 10, 2025Reviewed by The Hwahae Testers

What I loved most was the variety of powerful yet gentle brightening ingredients like niacinamide, tranexamic acid, and ascorbyl glucoside. The slippery texture means it takes a bit longer to absorb, but it's fine if you apply it in layers with some time in between. I didn't see dramatic results in the short two-week period, which isn't really a downside, but I plan to keep using it consistently!
