Pros
- Texture As I have dry skin, I usually layer toner multiple times. However, in winter when cold winds blow, I found that thin formulas have limitations even when applied multiple times. The Pyunkang Yul toner has a consistency that's heavier than a typical toner but lighter than an essence, making it perfect for layering during winter. When applied multiple times, it slowly fills the skin with hydration from the inside out. - Scent I'm sensitive to fragrances, but this product is unscented, which made me feel it was gentle on my skin while using it.
Cons
Although it's fluid, the texture is heavier than a water-based toner. If you apply too much at once, it might not blend well with the next product in your routine.
Tip
After cleansing, apply an appropriate amount and pat it in gently to ensure good absorption. Repeat this layering process 2-3 times for an effect similar to using both a toner and an ampoule.

Hello, I'm in my 20s with oily skin writing this Hwahae Testers review. When I first used this toner, it felt different from regular ones. Being an essence toner, its texture was more like a serum than the typical water-like toners. This was especially noticeable when applying it with a cotton pad - it felt much more like an essence than a pure toner. Although I have oily skin, I experience deep dryness after cleansing, so I need a toner with decent hydration to prevent this. To test its moisturizing power, I used only this essence toner after cleansing and waited for a while. Surprisingly, I felt no deep dryness at all. While its hydration might not compare to emulsions or moisturizers, I'd say its inherent moisturizing ability is second to none. Moreover, due to its minimal ingredient list, it feels refreshing when applied. I'd recommend this to those who prefer non-irritating, simple products with good hydration.
Cons
One downside, which might be due to the product's nature or perhaps requires a different type of cotton pad, is how it interacts with cotton pads. If you use too little, it just sits on top, but if you use too much, the pad seems to absorb it all, making the product feel like it's running out quickly. Also, this isn't great as an exfoliating toner, but it might work best for absorption toning. It's not really suited for those looking for post-cleansing skin refinement and hydration, but rather for removing excess dead skin cells and impurities. Lastly, it doesn't feel particularly cost-effective, so I'd suggest considering purchasing it during a Hwahae sale.

Pros
I expected it to be just a watery toner, but it felt more like a liquid essence! I'm used to very watery toners like Etude House, so this one felt quite different. I've been using it as a soothing mask by soaking cotton pads with it after applying toner. I keep it in the fridge and use it cool - it has a nice calming effect and works well for me!
Cons
For me, it felt a bit slippery and didn't absorb well into my skin. I guess it varies from person to person... I prefer products with just hydration, so those with slightly sensitive and oily skin might want to consider carefully.
Tip

Skin type: Combination dehydrated skin Age: 30 First off, I was thrilled with how neatly packaged the product was when it arrived. It really put me in a good mood! The texture is not too watery, but rather a slightly viscous essence. If you have combination dehydrated skin like me, it might feel a bit heavy when you first apply it. However, if you're patient and pat it in gently, it absorbs well! I also appreciated that the scent is close to fragrance-free. As someone with sensitive skin who's wary of strong fragrances, I found myself reaching for this product again and again. I love applying this after layering on lots of watery toner. With this routine, I can skip emulsion and just use a moisturizer, which works great for me!
Cons
I usually prefer products that absorb quickly and give an instant hydration boost. This one doesn't immediately sink in and feels like it sits on the surface a bit, which was slightly disappointing. However, if you apply it over a watery toner that's already hydrated your skin, and then gently pat it in, it works much better!
Tip
The texture, being neither completely watery nor too thick, makes it perfect for a toner mask. I like to soak a cotton pad with this essence toner, pop it in the fridge before washing my face, then apply it to my skin afterwards. After 15 minutes, my skin feels fully hydrated!

Pros
It was very hydrating and not irritating at all. True to its name as an essence toner, it didn't feel as light as a regular toner!
Cons
The application experience was slightly disappointing. When applied, it felt a bit slippery on the skin. When I tried to layer a moisturizer on top of this slippery base, it seemed like the cream wasn't absorbing well. My skin felt dry and itchy almost immediately because the cream wasn't sinking in properly. The slippery feeling did go away after letting it absorb for a while. I usually do multiple layers of toner, but with this one, it takes quite a bit of time to fully absorb each layer before applying the next.

Hello there! Thank you Pyunkang Yul & Hwahae for giving me the chance to be part of The Hwahae Testers! I'm grateful. I became interested in Pyunkang Yul products through their 'Essence Toner'. I'll share my review after using it for 10 days, along with details about the product. First off, during these 10 days, I heard a lot of comments from people around me. They said things like, 'Your skin looks clearer!' and 'Your skin has improved! What are you using?' Because of the unpredictable weather, I've been stressed since last month as my makeup kept pilling. But guess what? From day one, while it didn't completely stop the pilling, there was a noticeable reduction. After that, my makeup didn't pill at all! Thinking about why, I realized that as someone with sensitive combination dehydrated skin, who doesn't drink much water and doesn't have the best diet... anyway, it seems like it balanced my oil and moisture levels, preventing my makeup from pilling. Wow! (I also heard compliments about how well my makeup looked.) For my cleansing and skincare routine: I double cleanse - using pads with carrot extract, followed by a cleansing bar or foam cleanser. For skincare - I used to just pour it into my hands and pat it on, but this product suggests using it as a skin pack, so I've been doing that since. Day 1 - exfoliating toner. From Day 2 - exfoliating toner + another layer (using hands). After it absorbs, I apply moisturizer, cica cream, daily cream, etc. (I prefer using different creams based on my skin's daily needs, rather than sticking to one product!) When I apply the essence toner, I can visibly see the hydration and my skin starts to glow! Fragrance & Design: It's fragrance-free! Great for those sensitive to scents. The texture is water-like. I was also impressed by Pyunkang Yul's packaging and design. The packaging is so thoughtful... I was surprised by how beautiful yet sturdy the box is! Soothing & Hydration: The ingredients are exactly what's needed, perfect for my blemish-prone, sensitive skin. While the soothing effect isn't immediately visible, you can see it working after a few hours or the next day. However, it doesn't make blemishes disappear instantly. The hydration seems to absorb quickly, but there's a slight feeling of it sitting on the surface. It's not heavy, so it's easy to use! It's ideal for oily, combination dehydrated, and less sensitive skin types. (It might not be enough for extremely dry skin!) = Good balance of oil and moisture. Overall Impression: As I mentioned before, this product worked well for me! As I entered my late 20s and my skin went haywire, I couldn't use anything harsh. I went from extremely sensitive to sensitive... so I've been looking for products with gentle ingredients. While it takes some time to calm blemishes, it does soothe significantly! The marks will take longer to fade, of course. As a bonus, my skin seems to be getting clearer and glowier! It's a great product for summer. I highly recommend it to those with similar skin types to mine!

If I had to point out a slight downside... hmm... the price? It feels expensive but also not expensive, that kind of ambiguity? But as you use it, you realize the amount is quite generous! While the hydration does absorb, there's a feeling of it sitting on the surface.
Tip
If you feel like it's sitting on the surface after doing a skin pack, try pumping twice and gently pressing it into your skin for a second layer! Also, don't apply cream right away. Wait until you see a glow, then apply cream based on your skin's condition that day. You'll wake up to skin that takes makeup beautifully the next morning.

The skincare products I usually use have a subtle lemon scent, so I tend to feel a bit put off when the toner, which is a basic step, has a strong fragrance. However, I really liked that the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner was practically unscented, almost to the point of being fragrance-free. My skin felt plump and full of moisture, which I was initially satisfied with. But then... As I applied my next skincare step, it seemed like the product didn't agree with my skin. It started to pill excessively, making my face feel incredibly slippery. Thinking I might have used too much, I tried using less the next time I cleansed, but the slippery feeling persisted. I really didn't like this sensation, especially since I already have oily skin. The added slipperiness was too much. I even tried using less of my regular skincare products, but it didn't help. So now, I've resorted to using it as a body toner after showering in summer, as emulsions feel too heavy. I'm quite disappointed with this product, as I find it works better when patted gently around the eyes and neck after cleansing, rather than all over my face.
