It doesn't leave my skin feeling dry, which is great!
ConsHmm, I can't really think of any downsides!

However, it's not bad for hands and body use. Initially, I noticed it felt a bit more drying and squeaky clean compared to my usual natural soap. It had that authentic soap feel, you know? So I thought, 'Not bad, it lathers well, good stuff.' Recently, I've been washing my hands frequently, and liquid soap was making them too dry (it's super effective at cleansing). So I was looking for a gentler soap with less cleansing power, which led me to this product. It's affordable, great for everyday use, and a natural soap. Being made from animal fats, I thought it might be less drying. Other reviews mentioned it's popular for the Utsuki skincare method. While I don't follow that exactly, I prefer products I can use from head to toe, so I used this for my hair and face too. At first, I was excited about finding an affordable natural soap and used it enthusiastically. Even when my hair felt a bit rough, I thought that's normal for natural soaps at first... But after a month of use! The most important point is that it didn't suit my facial skin. You know how sometimes when you use a cleanser, the foam mixes with oils and leaves white residue around the sink? This product does that excessively. It often clogs the drain when I wash my hair, making it hard for water to flow. If you've tried various cleansers, you'll know what I mean. I wondered if that sticky, heavy residue left on my hair and face was causing blemishes. I tried rinsing more thoroughly, but ultimately concluded, 'Animal-based oils just don't agree with my skin.' I noticed they also have a plant-based soap line, which is a bit pricier... But at that point, I might as well use my previous plant-based natural soap. Oh, a major plus point! It's a high-quality soap in terms of form. It doesn't soften easily, resists humidity, and maintains its shape while gradually shrinking. That's quite an achievement for a soap, I must say.
ConsIt didn't suit my facial skin. I'll probably avoid products made with animal-based oils in the future. The website only lists 'soap base' as an ingredient - I wasn't inclined to dig deeper into what exactly that includes by translating Japanese websites and news articles. The Japanese website is so unattractive... I'll just use the remaining soap for hands and body. In my opinion, it's better than Ivory or Dove soap. It's unscented, natural, firm, and affordable. -------- While it's unscented, wow... I occasionally use it for body washing after leaving it unused for a while, and it smells intensely like a butcher shop. Being made from beef tallow, the smell is... really...

ConsIf it gets in your eyes, you'll experience a world of pain. It stings incredibly badly
TipBe extra careful not to get it in your eyes

ConsHowever, I'd recommend using it as a body wash rather than for facial cleansing. For face washing, I suggest trying Shabondama's other product, the avocado soap. I use the avocado one for my baby and it's really good. For facial cleansing, I definitely recommend the avocado version

But since I started using this soap, that tightness has completely disappeared. It looks like a regular bar of soap, but it lathers well and leaves my skin feeling clean and refreshed without any of that uncomfortable tightness. Amazingly, it even leaves my skin feeling moisturized! Since I've been using this soap, my skin doesn't get as dry in winter, which is fantastic. It's also affordable and lasts a long time once opened, making it economical. I think I'll stick to using just this soap from now on.
ConsThe only downside is that you can only buy it online, and to avoid shipping fees, you need to purchase five boxes at a time!
TipUsing it with a mesh pouch creates even more lather and works great.

I was so excited when I first used it! It lathers well and has almost no scent. With no harmful ingredients, I feel safe using it. I mostly wash my baby with just water, but I use this soap to create a lather for their hands and feet. It leaves the skin feeling clean without drying it out.
ConsWhile not all Japanese products are bad, there's still a slight uneasiness about it...
TipI'm trying to minimize chemical ingredients on my body and reduce the number of bathroom products. As a result, I like to use this for washing from head to toe. When used on hair, it can make it quite stiff, but if you rinse with a splash of vinegar and then rinse thoroughly with water several times, there's no vinegar smell and the hair becomes soft.

Using it with a foam net produced a nice lather, which was great. But what I loved most about this soap was its most important feature - it leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean without drying it out or causing any tightness. Another plus is that the price isn't too burdensome.
ConsI was so pleased that it gave a squeaky clean feeling without drying out my skin. However, it seems this soap doesn't agree with my skin. I've only been using it for a little over a month, but I've noticed blemishes and redness that I didn't have before. My skin had greatly improved, becoming baby-soft after using a low pH foam cleanser and Isoi cosmetics. I bought this soap hoping to improve my skin even more, but it actually had the opposite effect, which was quite disappointing. My sister, who was using it too, said she preferred the low pH foam cleanser we used before, so it seems this soap doesn't suit either of us. That being said, it's still a good pure soap that doesn't cause tightness or dryness, so those who are curious might want to give it a try. However, if it doesn't work for you like it didn't for me, you might want to consider trying a low pH foam cleanser instead.
TipI didn't want to waste the soap I bought, so I've been using it in the shower. I like that it doesn't leave my skin feeling dry after washing.

True to its 'additive-free' name, it's gentle and effective with only essential soap ingredients, no unnecessary additives. It lathers well and doesn't dissolve quickly, so even with the whole family using it, one bar lasts a month. I use it for face washing and showering, while for my child, it's great for hair washing and body cleansing. The best part is how it leaves the skin feeling hydrated after rinsing.
ConsWhile the price is reasonable, it's a bit inconvenient that it's only available for purchase online.
TipUsing a soap net helps create a rich lather, allows for better drainage, and extends the life of the soap.
