A truly additive-free soap with absolutely no extras. Great user experience, excellent cleansing effectiveness, and gentle on the skin. As expected with no fragrances, it has a distinct beef tallow scent. - al******Combination SkinAcne SkinSebum/BlackheadsInner DrynessEnlarged PoresDead Skin CellsRecommendedAug 28, 2024
I have a skin type that's prone to blemishes and gets oily in the T-zone just 2-3 hours after cleansing. While I can deal with the oiliness, the severe blemishes led me to become a foam cleanser nomad, trying various products before turning my attention to soap. With its single ingredient of soap base and positive reviews, I immediately purchased this product. First off, it's the hardest soap I've used. It's resistant to moisture, so it doesn't soften easily. This makes it long-lasting and cost-effective. Its round shape feels great in hand. While changing to this soap alone didn't dramatically affect my blemishes (as there are many other factors), it certainly didn't make them worse. I appreciated its gentle yet thorough cleansing power that effectively controls oil without over-drying my skin. It's also psychologically comforting to reduce the number of ingredients I'm applying to my face, given how many products we typically use. I now use this for both my body and face. I was anxious about the numerous negative reviews regarding the scent, and indeed, it does smell like lard or laundry soap. The fragrance is so off-putting that it makes me hesitant about repurchasing. While you get used to it over time, it does make me crave a nicely scented soap. If only it were closer to being unscented, it would have been perfect. Using a foam net produces a rich lather. When used alone, it tends to create less foam. - Hwahae UserDry SkinRednessRecommendedApr 16, 2024
It's definitely gentle and less irritating. I also like that the scent isn't too strong. While it's a bit inconvenient that it doesn't lather well, the benefits outweigh this drawback, so I can put up with it. - ke********Dehydrated SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsSebum/BlackheadsInner DrynessEnlarged PoresRecommendedOct 5, 2022
Being a Japanese product was a plus, and it really gives a clean feeling of washing away oil. It cleanses so thoroughly that your skin feels squeaky clean. If you have dry skin, I'm concerned this cleanser might be too harsh and cause discomfort. - ch*******Combination SkinRecommendedSep 1, 2021
My mom used to get itchy after showering with regular soap, but she says there's no irritation at all with this one. The individual packaging is a nice touch too. It leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean rather than moisturized, which might feel a bit drying. It's great for summer, but in winter I switch to Shabondama's plant-based line. It's definitely gentle on the skin. - ky*********Oily SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinRecommendedMar 2, 2021
When my skin was at its worst, this soap actually helped a lot. It's a gentle, no-frills bar soap that focuses on the basics. I found it much better than soaps with various additives, and it's very affordable too. It's an excellent choice for those following the Utsugi skincare method. I'm not currently using it because it's a Japanese product. If you sign up for their loyalty program, you can get an even better discount. To minimize irritation, I recommend using a foam net. - so********Oily SkinSensitive SkinRecommendedJan 23, 2021
Review as of January 23, 2021 The only ingredient is soap base. It's suitable for all skin types. You can use it not just on your face, but also on your body. The value for money is pretty good too. If you don't use a foaming net, it doesn't lather up as much as you might expect. It's a decent product. It seems to have no real drawbacks, but no standout features either. - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinNov 19, 2020
There's absolutely nothing good about it. My face immediately dries out and turns bright red. I always get blemishes and breakouts. Not recommended at all. It's extremely drying. Try using a CP soap instead. It's better because it leaves your skin feeling less dry after cleansing. - Hwahae UserDry SkinAcne SkinAtopic SkinRecommendedOct 25, 2020
I started using this soap because my atopic dermatitis was so severe, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it completely cleared up my condition. While other cosmetics, body washes, or soaps would irritate my skin, this one has never caused any issues. It's truly gentle, like washing your face with milk. While it's extremely gentle, this soap effectively removes oily residues whether you're showering or washing your face. This is both a pro and a con, as it can leave your skin feeling a bit too tight afterwards. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinRecommendedAug 31, 2020
As someone in their mid-30s, finding the right cleansing product has been nearly impossible, leaving me mentally exhausted. I'm particularly obsessive about my appearance, especially my skin, and a good cleanser is absolutely essential. After hearing so much about it, I decided to try the Shabon Dama soap. After using it for almost a week, I can say it's the most agreeable product among the many cleansers I've tried. It doesn't cause blemishes, pimples, or small bumps on my skin. It has even managed to restore my enlarged pores and uneven skin texture that had worsened from previous products. I'm truly relieved that my skin isn't deteriorating further and is actually improving. I'll likely repurchase this product. Personally, I really dislike Japan (but if it's good for my skin, I'll make an exception...). If you're expecting dramatic improvements in your skin or for all your acne to disappear miraculously, you'll be disappointed. You should be satisfied with the fact that it stops your skin from getting worse and slowly helps restore skin that's been irritated by various synthetic surfactants to a normal state. Also, being a soap, it can be a bit drying. A foam net is a must-have with this soap!
