I've experienced the discontinuation of so many holy grail products that it's now a bit tiring to even talk about them. But I thought the Nars Galapagos would never be discontinued... I honestly never even imagined it. It's not an unusual color, and it sells well across both Eastern and Western markets. I ended up buying a cheaper alternative after reading about the discontinuation, and while it's not bad by any means, it's a bit different from the Galapagos. The base color, pearl size, and the way the pearls are layered all have some differences. The alternative is less red and has a higher brightness in the base color, and the pearl shimmer is more pronounced. I compared them extensively, trying different combinations, and I think the best way for me is to just pack it on thickly all over, even doing the undereye liner, and then just go with a brick-like application.

If you just want a similar color, the cheaper version would be a good option, but those who were really attached to the original will likely not be fully satisfied. Looking at it, the old version does seem pretty similar.

I bought it because I thought the color would look good on top of the eyeliner. The subtle golden pearl in the eyeshadow looked beautiful, so I thought it would look pretty on my eyes too, but it didn't show up as much as I expected.
