Due to Hwyl's poor staying power, I personally prefer using it at home for relaxation, especially after a shower or before bed, rather than when going out. However, when I do wear it out, I've found that layering Hwyl as a base with other Aesop fragrances works wonderfully.

While the mild fragrance is a plus, the longevity is truly disappointing. I'm deducting one star because of how quickly it fades.

Many fragrances can be overpowering to the point of discomfort, but Hwyl has a subtle, natural scent that perfectly captures Aesop's unique essence. The fragrance is absolutely delightful and layers beautifully with other scents.

Less of a tip and more of an observation: in these times of political uncertainty and gloom, inhaling this scent seems to calm my anger and soothe my nerves a bit.

While it's not a complete doorway dud, the longevity isn't great, so I tend to wear it just for my own enjoyment.

If I had to choose one fragrance for life, it would be Hwyl. It's closer to Lapsang Souchong than Jeong San So Jong, with a sharp, smoky scent. Some say it smells like a temple, smoked sausage, burnt wood, or the woody aroma you get when entering a sauna - definitely a love-it-or-hate-it scent. In my younger days, I preferred floral and citrus notes, but life experiences have led me to favor woody fragrances. This is my signature scent, and I keep repurchasing it before it runs out.

It seems to suit cooler days better than hot ones.

The scent is like charred tree bark scraped together and burned. It's like an older, bolder version of Thé Noir 29. Beyond just a temple incense smell, to me it's as if someone set fire to an entire forest, gathered all the ashes and scorched wood, and stuffed them right into your nose.

Sometimes when I'm not feeling well and I spray it, the strong fragrance seems to make me feel a bit queasy.

The lasting power is excellent, and I love the damp woody scent. When I spray it, I feel like I'm immersed in a cypress bath deep in the mountains.

Spritzing a bit near your pillow before bed creates such a relaxing atmosphere. Just two sprays before heading to work, and the scent lasts until lunchtime. It also works wonderfully as a room spray.

I wish they'd release a larger size so I could stock up on a bigger bottle. Occasionally, if you press the nozzle too hard, it can leak and drip down the sides, which is a bit frustrating.

I always gravitated towards floral scents, but this perfume completely changed my bias against woody fragrances. It's not overpowering, yet it keeps drawing me in to take another whiff.
