Many fragrances can be overpowering to the point of discomfort, but Hwyl has a subtle, natural scent that perfectly captures Aesop's unique essence. The fragrance is absolutely delightful and layers beautifully with other scents. While the mild fragrance is a plus, the longevity is truly disappointing. I'm deducting one star because of how quickly it fades. Due to Hwyl's poor staying power, I personally prefer using it at home for relaxation, especially after a shower or before bed, rather than when going out. Great longevity and no artificial scent. I love the slightly bitter woody fragrance. Be careful not to overspray, or you might end up smelling like a tree. Also, watch out when spraying on clothes - the scent can linger for days.

It's closer to Lapsang Souchong than Jeong San So Jong, with a sharp, smoky scent. Some say it smells like a temple, smoked sausage, burnt wood, or the woody aroma you get when entering a sauna - definitely a love-it-or-hate-it scent. In my younger days, I preferred floral and citrus notes, but life experiences have led me to favor woody fragrances. This is my signature scent, and I keep repurchasing it before it runs out. While it's not a complete doorway dud, the longevity isn't great, so I tend to wear it just for my own enjoyment. The subtle woody scent is unique and creates a calming atmosphere. Personally, I find myself reaching for this more often than flashier fragrances. The scent is like charred tree bark scraped together and burned. It's like an older, bolder version of Thé Noir 29. Beyond just a temple incense smell, to me it's as if someone set fire to an entire forest, gathered all the ashes and scorched wood, and stuffed them right into your nose. Not much to criticize... The lasting power is excellent, and I love the damp woody scent. When I spray it, I feel like I'm immersed in a cypress bath deep in the mountains. If you're looking for a fragrance that combines woody notes with a smoky essence, I don't think you'll find a better option than this perfume. The strong mood of the scent can make it challenging to match with certain outfits. Also, you might become desensitized to the fragrance if you smell it continuously.
