It leaves a finish that's hydrating without making the T-zone greasy. It absorbs well and provides above-average hydration. As a basic skincare staple, the quality is impressive.
ConsThe price is on the higher side. The quality isn't comparable to that of an ampoule or serum. It doesn't give the feeling of adding rich, nourishing ingredients to the skin. I use it in place of an emulsion, which might be why it feels more expensive to me. The fragrance smells artificial.

The good points are just the brand, I guess? The packaging is pretty. That's about it. The absorption is okay, given that it's an essence...
ConsEven with good ingredients, I often find products that don't suit me, so I'm still not sure which ingredient in this cosmetic doesn't agree with me. The scent reminds me of the kind of cosmetics older women use. When I first applied it, it spread well, so I thought it was fine. But in less than 10 minutes, my forehead and cheeks were visibly covered in red blemishes. And while it feels moisturizing, it doesn't absorb well... It feels like it's just sitting on top of my skin. Also, it's not cheap. It might be okay for working professionals, but it's a burdensome price for students.
TipI'm not sure how it would have been if I had normal skin, but if you have sensitive and oily skin, absolutely do not buy this. For those with acne-prone skin, it won't have any calming effect - it might even make things worse.

It felt incredibly hydrating and was perfect for a light application.
ConsWhile there aren't many drawbacks, if I had to point out one, it would be the scent. It has a slightly artificial fragrance that I found a bit disappointing.

It leaves the surface feeling soft while deeply hydrating underneath.
ConsThe fragrance is overpowering. Interestingly, the fragrance ingredients are listed in the middle of the ingredient list, not at the bottom. It's hard to describe - it's like a mix of water, sports drink, shampoo, hair gel, and steam from a bathhouse. Honestly, I think it would have been better without any scent at all.

However, after using it, I found it wasn't as heavy as I expected and it gave me a feeling of pure hydration. There's a slight richness after application, but it doesn't make my skin greasy. Instead, it feels like it forms a moisture barrier. I can definitely see why it's expensive. As someone with oily, acne-prone skin, I find it a bit much for daily use. But it's great for preventing deep dryness after using a clay mask or on days when my skin feels irritated.
ConsThe 70ml size can be a bit pricey, which is why I was drawn to it when the 30ml version was released. Also, the scent... it's like a car air freshener? It's one of the fragrances I dislike the most, so that was disappointing. It's the kind of smell that could make me feel nauseous.
TipIf you find the richness after absorption a bit much and hesitate to continue with your skincare routine, try blotting some of the excess oil with blotting paper or tissue before finishing with your usual moisturizer. This should help!

Since it's summer, I'm trying to keep my skincare routine light, so I use this product after my toner. The texture is a thin, runny white essence. It feels more hydrating than oily, leaving my skin incredibly moisturized after application. It spreads easily and smoothly, allowing for even coverage. While it's quite hydrating, it doesn't absorb instantly - you need to pat it in several times. After applying, it feels more moist than fresh, and sometimes slightly sticky, like there's a film on your skin. I bought it for a lightweight feel, but it's not as light as I expected when applied. It might be better suited for those with dry skin as a middle step in their skincare routine.
ConsDespite being called a 'Water Bank Essence', it surprisingly feels a bit greasy. It absorbs slowly, requiring multiple pats, and doesn't leave a fresh finish, so it might not be ideal for oily skin types. Also, there's a slight lingering cosmetic scent. I experienced some blemishes after using it, so I gave it to my mom who has dry skin. I won't be repurchasing.

Usually, during seasonal changes, my skin would act up or develop dead skin cells... but this spring, my complexion has remained moisturized with no visible flaking.
ConsWhile there weren't any major drawbacks, I'm not particularly fond of artificial fragrances... so the product's scent came across as a bit strong for my liking.
TipAfter toning, using the essence really boosts hydration levels... For best results, gently pat it into your skin, then seal it in with a moisturizer to complete your routine.

I had the opportunity to try this product as part of The Hwahae Testers. With the kids' extended vacation, I hadn't been paying much attention to my skin and was feeling some deep dryness when I received the Waterbank Hydro Essence. I've been familiar with the Laneige brand since my 20s, as my mom and I used it together, so it feels quite comforting. After cleansing at night and completing my skincare routine, I applied the Hydro Essence and massaged it in a few times as instructed. What I noticed about this product: 1. It's not sticky and feels refreshing when applied. 2. The consistency is somewhere between an emulsion and a toner. 3. It doesn't absorb immediately but seems to coat the skin, leaving it with a nice sheen. I love how it feels like a layer of hydration on the skin without any stickiness. 4. Hours after application, my skin still feels moisturized when I touch it. Using the Hydro Essence followed by a cream with a touch of shea butter creates a powerful moisture barrier for a good night's sleep. As we age, this intense hydration becomes crucial! After using the Hydro Essence consistently morning and evening for two weeks, I noticed my skin's deep dryness improved significantly. It's a reliable and satisfying product overall.
ConsI usually apply skincare products on the back of my hand first, but when I pumped it there, it splashed everywhere, which surprised me. Pumping it into my cupped palm worked much better. One aspect I found disappointing each time I used the essence was its scent. It's likely a matter of personal preference, but I wasn't fond of the fragrance. However, I believe functionality is more important than scent, so it didn't affect my overall rating.
TipAfter cleansing, applying toner, and using a protein mask (emulsion-type mask), I follow up with the Waterbank Hydro Essence. The hydration lasts quite a while. Finishing with a cream before bed is absolutely wonderful! It seems to be an essence that really locks in the moisture.

As a result, it didn't leave my skin feeling suffocated at all after application. What's more, I'm thrilled that it didn't cause any blemishes. I was in a phase where my skin was super sensitive, so I fully expected some irritation when I applied it. To my surprise, my skin stayed clear throughout. No pimples popped up, and my skin didn't become rough at all - it was fantastic! Throughout my use of this essence, my skin remained hydrated and smooth.
ConsThe artificial fragrance is overwhelmingly strong. While applying, I felt like I was holding my nose right up to a bottle of fabric softener. Thankfully, the scent faded after application. To be honest, fragrance isn't a major issue for me if the product works well. My biggest disappointment with this essence is that I still felt dry even after using it. For my skin, it wasn't hydrating enough during the changing seasons (and probably won't be in winter either). Specifically, when I used a toner, this essence, and a light moisturizer with just hydration, my skin felt dry. Given the 'Water Bank' name, I expected it to be bursting with hydration, but it fell short for my skin. I plan to use it in summer - I think it'll be perfect then with just toner and this essence.
TipDuring the changing seasons, it worked well when I used a toner, this essence, and either a rich moisturizer with some oil content or when I added facial oil after the essence.

While it might be a hit or miss for some, and others might find the artificial fragrance off-putting, for me, it has a calming effect. Wouldn't you agree? It provides just the right amount of hydration for combination dehydrated skin. It feels like it's balancing the oil and moisture perfectly! In summer, I finish my morning skincare routine with just this essence, skipping the cream, and it's absolutely perfect.
ConsThe scent is... nice, but since it's an artificial fragrance, it would probably be better if it wasn't included in skincare products, don't you think?
