I'm sharing my experience after using this product consistently for a full 2 weeks to provide an accurate assessment, rather than just using it once or twice! As someone who typically uses products focused on restoring hair health rather than curl-enhancing creams or essences, this was my first time trying a curl-up product! Because of this, I think the pros and cons of this product stood out even more clearly to me. First off, this product helps with styling by fixing and maintaining curls! It gave me great satisfaction by creating strong and healthy curls in my hair, which is usually thin and tends to fall flat and become frizzy even after a perm!! It's very suitable for those who, like me, struggle with curl styling due to thin and damaged hair! The texture is similar to a moisturizing cream, but it has a surprising twist - it faithfully performs the role of a 'wax' in fixing the hair! Despite this, it seems to contain ingredients that protect the hair itself, so after use, my hair doesn't feel dry but rather silky and bouncy! However, I wash my hair at night, and since this product acts like a wax, it leaves a residue at the ends of my hair that feels like I've applied wax. This makes it impractical to apply after washing at night. Also, when I tried applying it to dry hair the next day, the styling didn't work properly. I tried washing my hair and styling it before work, and while the styling turned out great and I left the house feeling good, the persistent residue ultimately led me to wash my hair again before bed.... That's why I deducted one star. Controlling the amount is crucial! While it's not difficult to use, if you apply too much in one area, the cream can clump together, causing your hair to stick together in chunks. Applying it to damp hair works much better for styling, so after towel-drying to some extent, apply the product and then use a hair dryer while styling to increase the hold! - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinApr 30, 2021
The scent is not overpowering. Personally, I find it pleasant. It doesn't seem to be a polarizing fragrance that people would either love or hate. Regarding application, absorption, and effectiveness: While the texture is rich, it spreads easily when applied with hands, making it simple to use. I was concerned it might leave a sticky residue on my hair, but it absorbs well without any issues. It also has good hold. The texture is quite thick. It's not a lightweight formula. I was surprised by how rich it actually is. After applying the cream, I had to wash my hands about three times. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinApr 30, 2021
Here's a review from The Hwahae Testers! When you apply this and style your hair, it feels like it holds better, as if you've used wax. It makes it easier to style your hair in the direction you want. It also gives the effect of making your hair look fuller. On days when you use this, you might have to give up on that silky, flowing hair feeling. Since it's a product focused on curling, if you don't style your hair properly after applying it, your hair might end up looking a bit messy. When you dry your hair after applying this, it feels like your hair strands have thickened? It gives a fuller hair feeling. For me (I have a lot of hair, but it's thin and tends to fall flat), I apply it mainly to the crown area rather than the ends, and it reduces the feeling of my hair falling flat at the roots! - Hwahae UserDehydrated SkinSensitive SkinApr 30, 2021
Recommendation: If you've had a perm, planning to get one, or use a curling iron daily, I highly recommend this product! It's the best curl cream I've used so far. Definitely considering repurchasing. Effectiveness: It revives perms beautifully, making wave patterns more visible. I was personally satisfied with its hold. While not as strong as hairspray, it avoids that stiff, overly-set look that sprays can sometimes create. This product strikes the perfect balance! I have slightly wavy hair, but my last perm was a year and a half ago. When air-dried, my hair had some frizzy curls but the perm waves were gone (I've also been trimming it regularly). With this product, I could recreate the look of a fresh perm. Another plus - when used before curling, it helps the curls last longer! Scent: It has a grass-like scent that might be divisive. Personally, it's not my favorite, but it's subtle and fades quickly after application. I got used to it over time - not a plus, but definitely not a dealbreaker. Application: I experimented to find the best time to apply. It doesn't work well on soaking wet hair. For those with existing curls or perms, applying when hair is 60-70% dry seemed optimal for me! I recall it still had some effect when applied to dry hair after using a curling iron. Instead of applying it like a moisturizer, I recommend coating your fingers with the cream (squeezing it onto your palm wastes product as it absorbs too much). Then, scrunch your hair as if you're squeezing the curls. I found this method most effective! This product doesn't provide any moisturizing benefits! I have dry hair and needed to use a separate moisturizing product. To test the curl cream's effects alone, I tried using it without any other oils or products one day. The result? Frizz city! What's the point of curls if they're frizzy? If you have dry or damaged hair, make sure to use your regular moisturizing products alongside this curl cream! Also, if you don't have a perm or don't use a curling iron, you probably won't see much effect. It's not designed to create curls from straight hair, but rather to enhance and define existing curls or waves that have lost their bounce. If you have a perm or frequently use a curling iron, definitely give this a try! But if you have naturally straight hair and don't use heat styling, you might want to reconsider. Always use a moisturizing product alongside this curl cream. For those with perms, apply when your hair is about 60-70% dry. Applying to very wet hair might not give you the best results. - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinApr 30, 2021
This was my first time trying a curl cream, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well it enhanced my curls and helped maintain volume! It's great that applying this cream keeps my curls in place all day. Except for particularly humid days, it has good setting power. For a first-time user, I'd say it performs its function well. After applying and blow-drying, the curls at the ends become firmly set and stay in place throughout the day! As someone trying a Chahong product for the first time, I found the scent really off-putting. While fragrance is a matter of personal preference, I wonder if this is the best they could do with the formulation... It has a harsh, chemical smell reminiscent of perm or hair dye solutions, which was too strong for someone like me who prefers subtle fragrances. When I apply it in the morning, the scent follows me around all day... It was slightly better when it faded to a lingering scent. I suspect the fragrance might be quite divisive. While the curl-holding power is good and I'll continue using it, the scent makes it difficult to use frequently. That's disappointing. I found that mixing it with another perfume to layer the scent made it somewhat more tolerable! - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinApr 30, 2021
This was my first time using a curl cream! For someone who's only used products that make hair stiff like hairsprays, this curl cream was a revelation. It feels like a perfect blend of essence and wax. I loved how it kept my hair in place while still allowing it to be combed through! When you use hairspray, it often has that strong, distinct smell, and up close, styled hair can look a bit unnatural, right? Not with this product! If you're looking for a natural scent that's not off-putting and an effortlessly chic hair style, I highly recommend this. Since I had no prior experience with this type of product, I struggled a bit with getting the right amount. I realized you need to adjust based on your hair length and texture. Also, there was a slight stickiness after use. This is common with all hair fixing products, so I wouldn't call it a major drawback, but I did find myself paying extra attention when washing my hair to make sure it all came out. I have long, straight hair that falls below my chest. My hair is very fine but I have a lot of it. I have a dry scalp and color-treated hair. For those with similar hair texture, using an amount about the size of a quarter should be just right. There might be some individual variation, but after trying the product a few times, I found this to be the ideal amount. Also, Chahong has a YouTube channel. They have a video on how to use curl cream, which could be really helpful for those who, like me, aren't very familiar with hair products. - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinApr 30, 2021
My mom, who has permed hair, used this product while I have straight hair. She said it's great because when she applies this cream to slightly damp hair after washing, it revives her curls and tames frizz, making her hair look more polished. She loves how smooth it feels when applying, and once her hair is dry, it holds the curls well. I also appreciate that the scent is subtle and not overpowering when I'm near her. My mom says she hasn't found any downsides yet. It must be that good! - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAtopy SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinApr 30, 2021
Apply just a small amount when your hair is about 80% dry, and it really helps set your curls! The key is using only a little bit. If you use too much, it can get a bit clumpy. I've tried several curl creams, and this one's hold is truly impressive. The scent... how should I put it? It's like my dad's aftershave. The intensely cool fragrance was a bit overwhelming at first, and I personally felt a little queasy from the occasional whiffs. Apart from the scent, everything else was great! - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinApr 30, 2021
I applied it to my permed hair! First photo: before application. Last photo: after application. It wasn't bad, and it felt like it was holding my hair in place. It applied smoothly like an essence. When I accidentally over-applied, it felt a bit crunchy, like when your hair freezes in winter if you go out without drying it. But visually, you couldn't tell at all. It seems to be on the lighter side. It absorbs quickly, doesn't feel sticky, and was pretty decent overall. Personally, I don't notice much difference compared to when I don't use it. It makes me think, 'Is this really necessary?' And about the scent everyone talks about - it's not great, but it's not a deal-breaker. It was fine for me. - Hwahae UserDry SkinAcne SkinApr 29, 2021
Hair condition: Dry Comparison product: Amos Curl Essence 2x Pros: - The scent lasts longer compared to other products - Absorbs well and has decent hold I've written this review comparing it to a product I already own. While opinions on the scent may vary, I personally love it! The fragrance lasts longer than expected, and I enjoy the subtle scent it leaves in my hair. It absorbs well and the hold is not bad at all! Cons: - Being a cream, it feels slightly heavy and leaves a sticky residue on hands - Too drying when used alone on dry hair However, compared to Amos Curl Essence, the story changes a bit. Perhaps due to its 'curl cream' name, it feels a bit heavier than curl essence products. It tends to leave a sticky feeling on hands, and when I first used it alone, my hair felt quite dry. While the product performance isn't bad, I think it's similar to Amos Curl Essence in effectiveness. Personally, I wouldn't recommend using it alone. After shampooing, towel-dry your hair a bit, apply a hair essence, blow-dry your scalp, and then apply the curl cream just to the ends of your hair - it works much better this way. You know how to style permed hair, right? Just flip your hair from bottom to top! As someone who washes their hair in the evening, I sometimes wake up feeling like my curls have fallen flat. In those cases, I slightly dampen my hair in the morning, mix a small amount of curl cream with water, and apply it. This brings my curls back to life!
