First off, I didn't experience any blemishes from the ingredients. As Avène products are on the pricier side, they usually work well for me. I've had good experiences with their mist and SOS cream, and while this product doesn't offer exceptional soothing effects, it's a decent moisturizer for fall and winter. As someone with combination dehydrated skin, I found it less heavy than the SOS cream, which was nice. If you apply just the right amount, it feels like it creates a slight oil barrier on the surface rather than deeply hydrating. It's a gel cream, but there's a bit of residual richness. Not bad, but oily skin types might want to skip it. Dry skin types will probably enjoy it the most. For combination dehydrated skin, it should work well in winter. While I recommend it, consider your skin type and the season before purchasing.
ConsThe main disappointment is that it feels richer than expected. The SOS cream has a thicker consistency, so I could dab it on troubled areas at night without it moving around much. This one is much runnier, so you end up spreading it all over rather than spot-treating. On the first night, not knowing the texture, I applied too much. It didn't absorb and pilled up white, so I had to wipe it off with toner and reapply a smaller amount. The next day, I noticed some small breakouts due to excess oil. Oily skin types especially need to be careful with this!
TipIn both photos, the SOS cream is on top and this product is below. This product feels much runnier, but it has that characteristic Avène white pilling and richness, so I recommend applying small amounts and spreading it over your entire face.

It seems great for sensitive skin too.
ConsThe more you apply, the more it tends to pill, but it eventually absorbs into the skin.
TipIf you apply it when your face is slightly damp, it feels even more hydrating.

It's so gentle that even babies could use it - a pure and uncomplicated formula! Its accessibility makes it suitable for both my husband and me. The container and dispenser are designed for clean and easy use. I love how it's engineered to prevent air contamination - that's a plus. The pump design makes it even more convenient to use. Just keep in mind that due to its narrow shape, it's a bit tricky to stand upright, so you might want to store it lying down. It's fragrance-free! As an expectant mother, I prefer unscented products now, though I didn't always. From a functional perspective, you know fragrances don't add any benefits, right? It was hard to give up pleasant scents, but once I got used to it, unexplained itching seemed to disappear, which is actually quite nice. The application is so comfortable! It claims '10 minute soothing', and true to its word, the smooth texture doesn't cause any irritation. Even after application, my skin feels at ease.
ConsThe effects are minimal on normal skin... Since it's a cream focused on 'soothing', I didn't notice any significant effects on my skin, which doesn't have major issues. It's supposed to help reduce heat sensations, but for me - without acne-prone skin or any particular heat issues - it just felt like a mild emulsion. I think its true value would be apparent when your skin is irritated or acting up. There's some pilling. I tested it with just toner underneath, as I wanted to use it alone. Not knowing the texture, I applied only a small amount, but still experienced some pilling on the outer parts of my cheeks, so I had to pat it in to absorb. It was fine after absorption, but if you apply too much, rub vigorously, and don't help it absorb, it might pill all over.
TipApply a small amount and pat gently to absorb! Make sure to use it when your skin is irritated or acting up!

Texture The formula feels like a cross between an ointment and a moisturizer. It's pleasantly rich, spreads evenly, and absorbs well. If you're used to just moisturizers or essences, this might feel a bit heavier. 2. Application and Hydration While it feels thick coming out of the tube, it applies smoothly and isn't too heavy. It's perfect for locking in moisture, as recommended in skincare routines. When you apply it, you can feel a slight oiliness, but once absorbed, it leaves a beautiful glow with a thin, protective layer on the skin. I wouldn't recommend this for those only seeking hydration. 3. Seasonal Use This works wonders during seasonal changes and winter. It might be too heavy for summer use. It's perfect for right now. As someone with combination dehydrated skin, I find it balances my dry cheeks and slightly oily T-zone. Using this as the final step in my routine gives me a perfect glow that lasts till morning, leaving my skin looking refreshed. 4. Application Amount I use just one pump. Initially, I used two, but being a richer product, that felt a bit too much, especially before bed. One pump provides the perfect amount. 5. Pre-makeup Care Despite its rich texture, when applied in small amounts and well-absorbed, it works beautifully under sunscreen and foundation. I've found it creates a radiant base that makes makeup apply flawlessly. I can't wait to pair this with a glowy or semi-matte foundation in winter - it's going to be a perfect match! I'll update after using it more, but so far, I'm really impressed. The way it enhances makeup application is definitely my favorite aspect.
ConsThis product isn't recommended for those with oily skin. If you don't get the amount right, it can cause makeup to pill or feel sticky. Keep this in mind.

With the changing seasons, I felt like my skin needed more than just an emulsion for basic care, so I was satisfied that this cream could provide the extra hydration I needed. It contains prebiotic ingredients, which I'm hoping will help strengthen my skin barrier. I think it would be great to apply this after a serum during spring, fall, and harsh winter months for an extra boost of hydration! I also appreciated that the packaging is designed for hygienic use. Rather than feeling heavy, the moisturizer absorbs deeply, making my skin feel healthier. It seems to work best when applied at night before bed rather than in the morning.
ConsGiven the price point, I'd probably only consider purchasing this when it's on sale. When applied in the morning, it can pill a bit, so you need to be careful with the amount you use. Otherwise, it might roll off like dead skin cells, forcing you to wash your face again... The absorption is a bit slow, which is disappointing considering how moisturizing it is. On busy mornings, it might be challenging to wait for it to fully absorb.
