Let me describe my skin first: while I haven't used skincare with kombucha before, I've had no issues with an anti-aging serum containing black tea extract, which is similar. My skin also responds well to enzyme powders and fermented ingredients without any problems. I usually apply a high-concentration pure vitamin C ampoule in the morning for antioxidant benefits. However, during harsh summer sun or outdoor activities, I've avoided antioxidant products due to concerns about oxidation potentially darkening my skin. Also, when my skin feels sensitive, I often can't use pure vitamin C products due to irritation. That's why I appreciate this kombucha toner - it offers gentle antioxidant effects without irritation. At night, I use retinol and niacinamide. Pure vitamin C can be irritating or incompatible when used with these ingredients, so I've been looking for an antioxidant product that works well with them. Antioxidants are important to apply in the morning, but ampoules or creams can feel heavy for oily skin. The kombucha toner is light and doesn't pill, making it perfect for use before makeup. I expected the texture to be watery like Innisfree's Black Tea Essence, but it's surprisingly more essence-like! As I don't usually use watery toners, I actually prefer this. It's not too sticky either. With my oily skin, I layer this first, followed by a hyaluronic acid ampoule and squalane cream. This combination provides ample hydration without causing my makeup to separate. The packaging is luxurious and beautiful, making it a mood-boosting addition to any vanity. While efficacy is crucial, I've realized that the 'feel-good' factor is also a competitive edge in skincare. In conclusion, its main advantage is providing gentle anti-aging benefits without irritation. The lightweight formula is suitable for oily skin and works well under makeup.
ConsWhile the gentle nature is a plus, there are no immediate, noticeable effects yet. Compared to the popular antioxidant vitamin C, it may fall short in terms of visible brightening results. It's a low-risk, low-return situation. However, anti-aging products often show their true value years later. The fact that it doesn't stress the skin is a significant advantage.

I was worried about my previous toner making my face too oily, but this product doesn't do that, which is fantastic. The texture is light, it absorbs quickly, and provides excellent hydration. While it's unrealistic to expect a toner alone to provide full moisturization, I'm quite satisfied with this level of performance. As someone who goes through toners quickly, I've tried various products, but this is my first time using fermented kombucha water.
ConsI'm not sure about its brightening effects. However, I don't expect whitening results from a toner, so it's not really a drawback.

So I always opt for hydrating products in my skincare routine. This time, I was lucky enough to be selected as one of The Hwahae Testers to try out the Combu Balancing Ampoule Toner. Overall impression: It's a great daily care ampoule that isn't overwhelming. It seems to cover all the basic skincare needs (hydration, brightening, etc.) without missing anything. They've clearly put a lot of thought into the hydration aspect, but despite this, it doesn't feel sticky. It absorbs smoothly into the skin, which I really like. Non-sticky yet powerful hydration: Many hydrating products I've used before were so watery that they'd slip through my fingers and go to waste. This product has a bit more viscosity, so there's less waste and I can use it more efficiently. Despite its thicker consistency, it's not sticky at all, which is fantastic. Just the right amount of hydration: Sometimes products are so hydrating that my face feels sticky and I have to wipe it off before bed. With this one, I can apply it, layer other skincare products on top, and go straight to sleep without any issues. At the same time, it doesn't skimp on hydration - my skin never feels dry. I think this could be a great year-round product, suitable from winter through summer. Brightening effects...?: It's supposed to have brightening effects, but I haven't noticed any yet. Brightening products typically take consistent use over time to show results, so I'm hoping I'll see some changes as I continue to use it throughout the year.
ConsThere aren't any real downsides! If I had to pick something, maybe the subtle brightening effect? But honestly, that's pretty common with most brightening products, so I wouldn't consider it a major flaw. I think it'll be clearer how effective it is after consistent use over time.
TipUsing oil-based products after: Since this product is primarily focused on hydration, it might be good to follow up with something that can replenish oils to some extent. After applying this, your skin might feel a bit dry, but if you use an emulsion or other oil-based product alongside it, the hydration seems to last much longer.
