Pros
I've been using it since its launch. I'm using the sample that came with the full-size product since I've used up the original, so the photo is just of the sample. I really hate anything sticky, but this has a watery, thin formula that absorbs quickly and feels great to use. I don't like applying a lot of different products, so I've been using this as a substitute for toner. It's not like I'm just slapping it on and that's it - I do apply it a couple of times since I have dry skin, but it keeps my skin hydrated. The ginseng scent is also faint and not at all bothersome. I didn't even realize I liked the ginseng scent until now. The person I gifted it to also really liked it.
Cons
The price is a bit high. Considering the ginseng ingredient, it's not outrageously expensive, but coming from someone who usually just uses drugstore products, it feels a bit pricey. The thin formula means it disappears quickly, which is a bit of a downside.

I really love single-ingredient essences! This is a first essence with just red ginseng, and I'm very satisfied with it. The subtle ginseng scent is nice - I prefer when herbal scents aren't too strong, as long as they match the product identity well. Your skin will look great The synergy with the Ja-Saeng Essence is incredible It's a water-based formula and I've been using it as a cleansing balm But among all the water-based formulas I've used, this one has the most oil content When you apply it, it feels slightly oily, but after a while, your skin becomes incredibly smooth and glowy And after using about half the bottle, I can really feel my skin improving I recommend this for dry skin types The scent has a subtle herbal note, but it's not overpowering Usually, products with a dominant single note tend to clash with other fragrances, but this one blends nicely with other products, without the single note completely taking over...haha

I received and tried the sample. I used it in the spring when my skin was in good condition. This was my first time using a Donginbi product, and I noticed a strong ginseng scent. I was able to use it without any aversion. It has a sticky, runny texture. It can be used as a toner substitute or in place of an ampoule. While it has a sticky texture, as long as you control the amount, it absorbs well. So I felt like it replenished my skin's moisture. For those with dehydrated oily skin, I think using this product alone and finishing with a moisturizer would help balance the skin's moisture. I plan to purchase the full-size product.

Pros
The Donginbi 1899 Single Essence greatly improved my skin texture. I used this essence instead of a toner, and all the small bumps and blemishes on my skin disappeared. My skin became smooth and well-organized. The price is a bit high, but the good ingredients seem to justify it, and I'm completely satisfied using it. The ginseng scent is present but not unpleasant. If used consistently, this essence seems like it will be very beneficial for the skin.

Texture - Slippery, transparent liquid Ingredients - Single-ingredient formula, so the ingredients are quite good Fragrance - Can be divisive due to the ginseng scent. For reference, I'm a big fan of ginseng (I like it a lot). The scent is not too strong, you'll notice it when first applying but it fades away. Absorption and Moisturizing - Since I have dry skin, it seems to absorb quickly. The moisturizing effect doesn't last long with one application, so I have to apply it multiple times to really feel my skin becoming supple.

Pros
The texture is dense like water. It's not as runny as mucus, but has a slightly viscous, sticky water-like consistency. After applying, you can feel the scent of ginseng.
Cons
1. Heavy but dry When you first apply it, you immediately feel an incredible sense of moisture and a slight slipperiness. It's like when you wash off soap with mineral-rich hard water and it still feels a bit slippery. However, the moisture quickly evaporates, and it rapidly dries out. The usage feels a bit heavy, but ironically, it's dry, so you have to quickly move on to the next skincare step. Since it's not light and dewy like a typical first essence should be, I don't think it's very good. 2. Sits on the surface A first essence is supposed to be the first step that helps refine the skin texture and prepare it for the next products to absorb better. So it should generally have a low molecular weight and be lightweight to penetrate deeply and open up the skin's moisture pathways. But this product is the worst in this regard. For example, SK-II Pitera or Hera Cell Essence feel like water and really sink into the skin, but this one just feels sticky on the surface without that sensation. So if you layer other products on top, it can cause trouble. 3. Sticky When you apply it, the initial moisture sensation is incredibly intense, but it feels more like alcohol evaporating and drying out quickly rather than absorbing and penetrating. The irony is that even though it dries out, the skin feels heavy due to the stickiness. For a first essence, there's a slight stickiness left after use. 4. Price It's not even cheap. The original price is 90,000 won, and even if it's discounted by half, I still wouldn't buy it.
