First off, the ingredients! Since I started using Hwahae, I've become wary of products with poor ingredients. While it's a bit disappointing that fragrance is included, overall the ingredient list is quite good. The absorbs well is pleasantly hydrating too. My routine is to apply toner, then this, followed by a cream. It's like pushing in hydration first, then sealing it in! It feels rich when you apply it, but it absorbs quickly, leaving your skin feeling smooth. The scent is a bit disappointing - it's somewhat artificial and might be polarizing. The instructions say to spread it until water droplets form, but you need more than the recommended amount for that to happen. I'm not sure what effect the water droplets are supposed to have, but you need to apply it generously for them to appear. Also, when I first opened it, product came out even though I only twisted the outer cap. It didn't leak, but I'm still puzzled why this happened. It's inconvenient because you have to wash or wipe your hands after applying, otherwise it leaves a shiny residue everywhere. Although it's supposed to be good for hydration overall, as someone with combination dehydrated skin, I didn't see outstanding moisturizing effects, which is disappointing. I'm the type who just uses products as long as they don't cause blemishes, so this one is just okay for me. I usually don't like applying too many products on my face as it can cause pimples and feels heavy, so I typically just use toner and cream. However, this product alone feels too light. The instructions say to use it as the last step in skincare, but after experimenting, I found it works better for me when applied earlier. When I used it last, it seemed to coat the skin, but after a while, though it didn't feel tight, my skin looked a bit dry. So now I apply toner, then this product, and once it's absorbed a bit, I layer on a moisturizing cream. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinFeb 15, 2021
- This is a review from The Hwahae Testers - *My skin type and concerns* I have combination skin that's very seasonal. In summer, my T-zone gets extremely oily while my U-zone is slightly shiny. In winter, my T-zone is oily but my U-zone gets dry. Recently, my skin has become even more dehydrated. I've also been experiencing some irritation and redness, possibly due to wearing masks. [Texture] The texture is unique and pleasant to apply. It's slightly bouncy with high moisture content, allowing for a gentle, non-irritating massage. After application, it forms a smooth, protective layer that feels like a thin wax coating on the face. The texture is intriguing, and this smooth feeling lasts quite a while, indicating good longevity. It would also work well as a massage cream. [Base makeup] In winter, when heaters dry out my skin quickly, I tend to apply a thicker base when I need to wear makeup. However, this often leads to clumping and pilling. Recently, I had an occasion to wear makeup, so I followed my usual routine: cleansing, toner, a light essence, and then this cream. Despite being in a room with strong heating for quite some time, my makeup didn't pill and my skin felt less tight than usual. [Scent] As someone who usually uses fragrance-free products, I found the artificial scent of this cream quite strong upon application. The persistent fragrance was a bit overwhelming throughout use. Even considering that scent preference is personal, I felt this one was a bit excessive. [Hydration] I felt this cream alone wasn't sufficient for hydration. The burst of moisture you feel is more of a sensation, while in reality, it forms a smooth film on the skin with excess water sitting on top. While the long-lasting film is nice, it also seemed to hinder absorption. As this is typically the last step in a routine, you wouldn't usually apply anything after, but I found myself needing to use a mist or another moisturizer to address the deep dryness, which was disappointing. [Residue] I'm not sure if 'oily' is the right word, but it leaves a slick residue on the skin. No matter how much you try to absorb it, this slippery feeling persists. It's like your fingers could slide across the smooth skin surface... While my friend likes this feeling and finds it soft, and it did help my matte foundation last longer, I personally don't prefer this sensation. It feels like applying a very rich cream at a spa, but one that lacks sufficient hydration. I tried using this product for gua sha massage and it worked really well. It allowed for a smoother, gentler massage compared to oil, without irritating the skin. I'd recommend it for massage purposes!
