The hydrating primer doesn't conceal pores like a pore-filling primer would. As someone with combination dehydrated skin, I love using this product in winter ❄️ Even though it's designed to cover pores, it didn't cause any blemishes! Those with sensitive skin can use it well too. However, it can get quite rich in summer, so I'd recommend it for winter if you have combination dehydrated skin like me. The texture is like a non-runny serum, and the size is about that of a small lip balm. Since you only need a small amount of primer, it lasts a long time. It doesn't exactly cling to the skin, but gives a slightly dewy feel. I think it would be great for those with dry skin. It's not great at covering texture or pores. For dry skin, it's more like a hydrating base..! - ki********Oily SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinSebum/BlackheadsDead Skin CellsRecommendedJun 18, 2025
Although it's a primer, it's hydrating, so I think it creates a beautiful skin finish for those with dry skin conditions! Most primers have a matte texture, so those who dislike moisturizing products might find this disappointing. It would work well when applying semi-matte or glowy cushion foundations! I don't recommend this for those seeking a matte skin finish! - jk********Combination SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsDark CirclesRednessDead Skin CellsRecommendedMay 6, 2025
There's not much difference before and after application. The texture isn't quite thick, but it's not runny either. It applies incredibly smoothly without irritation, leaving the skin feeling gentle and hydrated. When I apply cushion foundation or liquid foundation right after this, my skin looks flawless without any patchiness. As someone with combination skin leaning towards dry, I found myself using this more often in fall and winter. For those with oily skin, the Classic version might be a better fit than the Hydrating one. The size is about as big as your palm. I didn't find anything particularly disappointing. There are many varieties available, so it's best to choose one that suits your skin type. - lo*******Dehydrated SkinInner DrynessEnlarged PoresRecommendedApr 25, 2025
I apply this before my foundation, and it's definitely moisturizing and lovely. To be honest, I wasn't sure if it was making a difference since I use it daily. But on the few occasions I forgot to apply it and went straight to foundation, I noticed the foundation didn't adhere as well and looked less even. This product really shines in winter! When I use this and then apply foundation with a spatula, I can achieve a smooth, even 'boiled egg' complexion. There's not much to complain about, but if I had to pick something, it's that when stored for a long time, the oil(?) and cream separate inside the container. I once stopped using it for a while to try another product, and when I pumped it again after a long time, I was surprised to see it come out separated. - fm********Combination SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsSebum/BlackheadsDark CirclesInner DrynessRednessDead Skin CellsRecommendedJan 6, 2025
I purchased this on December 24, 2024. I was originally using another brand's brightening moisturizer, but it wasn't great for my skin texture. So, I decided to switch to the famous Banila Co primer. I was a bit skeptical at first, but it turned out to be amazing! It doesn't dry out my skin, doesn't accentuate dead skin cells, and doesn't irritate my skin at all. I'm really satisfied with this product - it's truly a holy grail... Just look at my skin in the last photo - it speaks for itself! Without the primer (using only skincare, no other brand's primer), my blemishes and acne scars were surrounded by noticeable dead skin cells. My concealer was all patchy and it was a mess. But as soon as I used this, my skin improved dramatically. Highly recommended, especially for those with dry skin! The only downside is that it's a bit tricky to control the amount at first, but you'll get the hang of it with practice! Many people say to use primer before sunscreen if it's a sunscreen that leaves a white cast, and after sunscreen if it doesn't. But honestly, I think primer should always go on first, regardless of the type of sunscreen. It helps your makeup adhere better that way! - dm*******Dry SkinAcne SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsWrinkles/ElasticityDead Skin CellsAug 19, 2024
It seems to provide some coverage, but it's also a bit runny, so it's somewhat ambiguous in its effectiveness. Despite being far from its expiration date, the formula started separating even before summer began. When pumping after not using it for a while, a clear, water-like substance comes out first. However, if you shake the bottle, it sloshes like a liquid and then seems to mix back to a slightly thicker consistency. - so*******Dry SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsSebum/BlackheadsDark CirclesInner DrynessEnlarged PoresDead Skin CellsRecommendedJul 27, 2024
Scent: It has a pleasant, subtle fragrance. As someone sensitive to scents, I personally enjoyed it and appreciated that it wasn't overpowering when applied to the skin. Texture: Being a hydrating primer, it has a nice emulsion-like consistency that applies smoothly, unlike traditional primers. The translucent formula feels lightweight and non-sticky, so makeup doesn't feel heavy on top. It doesn't cause pilling or make your base makeup separate. Moisturizing: It leaves the skin feeling hydrated and supple upon application. Packaging: The outer packaging has a clean, simple design. The pump dispenser makes it easy to use and keeps the product hygienic. Effectiveness: While it doesn't produce dramatic results, it's better than using nothing. I've been using it for months, and I find that makeup adheres better, there's less skin flaking, and it seems to even out my complexion. It also helps maintain hydration, making my skin feel less dry. Personal verdict: While it's better than using nothing, the difference is subtle. If you have a good skincare and base makeup routine, this might not be essential. Considering its effects and price, I'd have to think twice about repurchasing. Lack of dramatic effects: I have dry skin and always struggle with my base makeup (cushion) looking patchy around my eyes and cheeks, and with texture and flakiness around my nose. I bought this primer hoping it would address these issues. However, after applying it to problem areas before my base makeup, I found that it didn't dramatically improve coverage or makeup adherence as I had hoped. Price: Considering the amount you get, it's not particularly affordable or good value for money. While not extremely expensive, it's on the pricier side. Tip 1: Banila Co offers various types of primers, so consider your skin type and desired effects when choosing one! Tip 2: Apply this primer after skincare but before sunscreen or makeup. For extra dry areas, try applying a second layer. - su*********Combination SkinAcne SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsSebum/BlackheadsInner DrynessEnlarged PoresRecommendedJul 14, 2024
First, I apply this to areas like the sides of my nose or forehead before makeup and use cushion foundation. The difference between using and not using this primer is huge! After using the primer, the cushion doesn't settle into pores and provides natural-looking coverage. It's moisturizing and absorbs well, so you don't need to use a separate emulsion or cream before makeup. The scent is universally appealing. Personally, I absolutely love the fragrance! As I used the product, I noticed that the primer essence(?) and oil started to separate, which was a bit disappointing. Also, since the Prime Primer Hydrating is focused on hydration, it doesn't completely smooth out pores. I think this is an excellent primer when used with a matte cushion foundation! It would be great for those with dry skin types. For those looking for flawless pore coverage, I recommend trying the Banila Co Prime Primer Classic instead. - li*********Dry SkinAcne SkinAtopic SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsSebum/BlackheadsInner DrynessDead Skin CellsJun 27, 2024
This hydrating primer is gentle enough for dry skin types to use without any issues I'm not sure about its longevity or how well it fills in pores - ch*******Dry SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinInner DrynessJun 16, 2024
Not sure... There's usually a reason why certain products within a brand aren't popular The scent is unpleasant, it's not even moisturizing, I should have just bought a toner instead
