As someone with combination dehydrated skin prone to redness and blemishes, I've struggled to find products that offer both hydration and good coverage. However, the Black Rouge Thin Layer Velour Cushion is a game-changer! It's impressively moisturizing while providing excellent coverage. I love how the lightweight, thin formula applies smoothly and evenly. The #2 Vanilla shade brightens my complexion beautifully without looking unnatural. And can we talk about that puff? It's absolutely divine - so soft and bouncy! The unique packaging is also a real eye-catcher.
ConsThe only downside I noticed is that the longevity might not be its strongest suit. As my skin's natural oils came through, I experienced some pilling when applying water-based makeup on top.
TipFor a flawless finish, try building up the coverage in thin, gradual layers.

I was worried because other reviews said the coverage wasn't great, but I found it to be quite decent. I have acne scars but no active blemishes. As someone with super sensitive skin, I experienced no irritation while using this.
ConsHowever, it doesn't adhere well to the skin at all. If you brush against it, that area just wipes off. Also, after some time, it becomes excessively oily.

It seems to sink into the skin nicely, and the coverage is decent too! The skin looks natural, and the puff is really fantastic - I'd even consider buying the puff separately!
ConsI have combination dehydrated skin, and my T-zone gets especially oily. Perhaps because of this, the makeup starts breaking down after just an hour or two, and it doesn't look pretty when it does. It gets very shiny, and there's too much excess oil coming through. It doesn't work for me, but it might be good for those with normal to dry skin.

The more I patted it in, the better it adhered to my skin. It has a semi-matte finish, so those with dry skin might want to moisturize well before applying. While I didn't notice on my face, testing on the back of my hand revealed more of a pink base than yellow. On the face, it brightens the complexion slightly for a natural look, though there's a bit of darkening later. The ingredients must be good as I didn't break out, but it does seem to settle into pores over time and transfers moderately to masks. It covers minor blemishes and pores well, though I use concealer for more severe spots. The case is pretty and slightly wider but thinner than typical cushions.
ConsIt's disappointing to see it clogging and sitting in my pores, and the darkening is a letdown. The matte finish seems to lead to oil production later, likely due to lack of hydration. After a week of use, I'm now getting blemishes on my cheeks!
TipI recommend applying in thin, multiple layers! If you have dry skin, make sure to thoroughly moisturize before application.

When applying, it feels hydrating and moisturizing, but once it's fully applied, the moisture absorbs into the skin, leaving it hydrated without much transfer. Adding powder on top makes it feel velvety and improves its staying power. The coverage is also impressive - if you apply a thin double layer on slightly red marks or acne scars, they're almost invisible! The color is beautiful too, with that slightly translucent look that only a glow cushion can achieve. I'm really... so satisfied with trying this. The puff is so plush I want to buy it in bulk! The best part is, I used to have severe acne, blemishes, and lots of trouble with my skin, but since using this cushion (though I'm not sure if it's directly related), I don't have anything bothersome on my face anymore. It's my skin savior... I'm so satisfied that I'll definitely repurchase when I run out.
ConsIt does get a bit oily later on, so in these mask-wearing times, there's some transfer and it can leave marks that look like scratches. However, when not wearing a mask, this oiliness transforms into a pretty glow. But when wearing a mask, touch-ups are absolutely necessary!
TipIt's perfect as a touch-up cushion, but I wouldn't recommend using it with skincare products that are already very rich in oils, as this cushion itself is overflowing with hydration.

Color: I usually maintain a #22 tone and prefer a neutral tone if I have slight redness. This Black Rouge Thin Layer Velour Cushion has a pink base, ideal for those who prefer #20-21 shades. It felt slightly bright for me as a #22. It's my first time trying a pink base, and I was pleasantly surprised by how it brightened my skin without being overwhelming. Application: I typically prefer semi-matte cushions, but in winter, insufficient skincare led to caking and lifting around my cheeks, philtrum, chin, and nose. This cushion felt moisturizing upon initial application, maintaining a beautiful glow that I found satisfying. It blended well into pores around the nose when applied with the puff. I also liked how it set to a slightly powdery finish after a while. Design: The pink case design is likely to appeal to women. I'm satisfied that the outer surface doesn't easily show fingerprints. Scent: It has a general skincare scent, slightly soapy. While those sensitive to fragrances might dislike it, I don't particularly mind scents and found this one not too strong.
ConsDrawbacks include visible scratch marks, though it didn't transfer much to my mask. Despite my usual skincare routine, it completely wore off on my cheeks, which was disappointing. In the office with the heater on, I noticed quite a few whiteheads and increased oiliness. The most disappointing aspect was how thick it felt when applied in two layers. As I currently have small blemishes on my chin, I applied an extra layer there, but it felt quite heavy.
TipPro tips! 1. Use the puff to control the amount of skincare products you apply! 2. If your skin feels dry after skincare, apply a hydrating sunscreen like Dalba Water Sun Cream before the cushion. Pat it in with the puff for a smooth, hydrated base. 3. Always use a toner pack or toner pads to prep your skin before applying skincare products. In winter, any cushion can look patchy over dead skin cells, so smoothing the skin first ensures a flawless application.

It's so refreshing to see after all those black cases out there. When you open the lid and remove the 'Happy Reverse Day' sticker, you're greeted with a nice, large mirror - perfect for cushion foundation application, of course! While this cushion boasts three main benefits - UV protection, brightening, and anti-aging - what impressed me most was its mask-proof quality. In this day and age, every cushion claims to be mask-proof, but this one truly lives up to the hype. Despite its semi-matte formula, it feels slightly moisturizing upon application, which made me worry it would transfer. But amazingly, after wearing it from 9 AM to 7 PM (except during meals), there was barely any transfer! Even popular mask-proof products usually leave marks around the nose or edges, but with this cushion, you'd have to squint to see the faintest trace on the cheeks. I was so surprised that I tried it again the next day with a heavier application - same result! Check out the last photo I've attached - that's my mask after wearing it from 9 AM past 7 PM. Black Rouge, why aren't you promoting this mask-proof feature more?! Additionally, with SPF 40/PA++, you can skip sunscreen and just use this as your base. The vanilla shade matches my light 21 skin tone perfectly - not too light, just natural. If you want a brighter look, you could go up a shade.
ConsWhile it does set to a semi-matte finish, it retains some moisture, which might be why the coverage isn't exceptionally high. Also, by the end of the day, I noticed some oil breakthrough, making my skin look a bit shiny. You'll likely need to touch up throughout the day.
TipIf you find that stamping the puff doesn't spread the product evenly, try gently swiping it instead. This helps the foundation settle into fine lines for a smoother application.
