Cons- Unnatural and artificial rose scent (a struggle every time I apply it) - The packaging sometimes causes the product to spray in odd directions when pumping
TipIt's really great for applying on the neck! It doesn't settle into neck wrinkles and looks more natural than foundation. The good ingredients seem to be gradually improving elasticity and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. I comfortably apply it as a makeup base, including on my neck.

That's why I've always been particular about evening my skin tone when applying makeup. I'm grateful for this opportunity to try this product! The texture is moisturizing and adheres well to the skin. After application, it feels like it sets to a matte finish. If your base skincare is too light, it might feel a bit tight. I usually use hydrating products like Hwa Jal Muk Emulsion in my skincare routine, so even with my combination dehydrated skin, I didn't experience any flaking or caking. These days, my routine is simple: sunscreen, this brightening moisturizer, and a thin layer of BB cream only on areas with redness. I commute to work with just this. It definitely brightens more than other products I've tried. At first, I thought, 'Whoa, is this too white?' But after 30 minutes to an hour, it looks more natural. I even use it for touch-ups at work, as my skin tends to darken throughout the day. When touching up, there's no pilling or flaking, probably due to its moisturizing formula. Despite my acne-prone skin, this product felt gentle. I heard it contains 14 types of peptides - maybe that's why? Using this didn't cause any breakouts.
ConsThe strong chemical scent makes me worry if it might be harmful to my skin.
TipI recommend starting with a small amount for one thin layer, then adding another light layer only on areas where you want more brightening. This prevents over-whitening from the start.

It's perfect for the neck area, with just the right amount of brightening and staying power! It's also wonderfully hydrating when used as a makeup base. The brightening effect is actually more noticeable than what's shown in the photos.
ConsThe scent is overwhelmingly floral, like a strong cosmetic fragrance that hits you right away, which I didn't like. When applied alone, after a while it tends to settle into fine lines quite noticeably, and it also leaves a white cast along the hairline.
TipApply in this order: skincare, sunscreen, brightening moisturizer, then foundation or cushion. Be careful to avoid the hairline area when applying.

I promise to write an honest review, and to ensure accuracy, I've been taking notes after each use and am basing this review on those notes. 1. Natural brightening with just a small amount: Unlike some brightening moisturizers that can make you look unnaturally white, this product allows for a natural-looking complexion when applied in moderation. It's perfect for those days when you don't want to wear foundation but still want to even out your skin tone. No more floating face effect! 2. Excellent makeup base: I primarily used this as a makeup base, applying a thin layer before foundation. It has a hydrating quality that prevented my skin from ever feeling dry. Using this as a base definitely made my skin look more flawless when I applied foundation on top. 3. Moisturizing: While I haven't tried many makeup bases, this one didn't leave my skin feeling tight or dry after application. In fact, it felt quite hydrating. When applied after my skincare routine, it created a smooth canvas for foundation to blend seamlessly.
Cons1. The fragrance: When I first used the product, I noticed a strong artificial cosmetic scent, which I personally didn't enjoy. 2. Difficult to control the amount: Because it's a pump-type container, it can be challenging to dispense just the right amount. This might be particularly tricky for those who plan to use it as a makeup base rather than on its own.
TipPro tip 1: Shake well before first use As mentioned in the instructions, when you first open the product, make sure to shake it thoroughly to prevent ingredient separation. Give it a good 20-30 shakes before your initial use! Pro tip 2: Apply to your neck for a more natural look As the weather warms up and we start wearing lighter clothing, the difference between your face and neck might become more noticeable. Since this product provides a natural brightening effect, applying it to your neck can help create a seamless transition and match your face to your neck tone perfectly.

When used as a brightening moisturizer base, it helps makeup last longer. * Scent - Strong medicinal scent might be off-putting for some. * Packaging - Initially, it's hard to dispense even after multiple pumps, then suddenly a lot comes out! Be careful when using it for the first time. * Product Advantages - No sun protection This could be seen as both a pro and a con. It's great for achieving that 'no-makeup' look in front of your boyfriend! Unlike brightening moisturizers with SPF that require double cleansing, this one's perfect for a natural look at home. - Natural brightening effect The biggest advantage is its ability to naturally brighten areas with different complexions like face, neck, back of hands, and palms! I used it on my relatively darker neck and hands to fake an overall fair complexion.
Cons- The strong medicinal scent is off-putting. - Lacks sun protection. Need to apply sunscreen separately from the brightening moisturizer. - Adds an extra step to makeup routine. After skincare (toner, essence, emulsion) and sunscreen, you need to apply this 'brightening moisturizer' before foundation or cushion. - It's a choice between adding a step for better brightening or opting for a brightening sunscreen to simplify. I prefer the latter. Is it worth spending twice as much and complicating your routine?
Tip- For optimal brightening: Use a pea-sized amount > Dab it on one finger > Spread it widely over the area with your hands > Then use a damp puff to evenly distribute. This method ensures even application with minimal product!

It's more like 'Did I even apply anything?' rather than 'Look, I'm wearing brightening moisturizer!' It evens skin tone naturally, which is great. The texture is smooth and similar to sunscreen, making it quite nice to use.
ConsThe scent is really like old-fashioned cosmetics... Personally, I found the smell quite unpleasant. Given that I have to wear a mask at work, the smell was really bothersome. Due to the container design, it's nearly impossible to use it cleanly - the product keeps getting on the clear lid even after wiping. The biggest disappointment is the lack of sun protection!!! Most brightening moisturizers have SPF, so it's a letdown that this one doesn't. At this price point, there are better options available, so I probably wouldn't buy it if I weren't part of The Hwahae Testers. And a major drawback - it pills even if you apply just a little! Even after shaking and carefully applying, it still pills. It's a mess around the nose and mouth area. Overall, I wasn't impressed.
TipApply only a small amount, as using too much can lead to caking and clumping.

Not a fan of pumps, so I question if it's really necessary. - Application: It's quite thick. Maybe that's par for the course with brightening moisturizers. You'll need a good skincare base. - Performance: A little goes a long way for evening skin tone. Seriously, a pea-sized amount is all you need. It takes some patting to blend naturally, but the color is nice and doesn't oxidize or settle into lines over time. Can't speak to other claimed benefits in the short term, and with all the products in my routine, it's hard to pinpoint which one's doing what anyway. - Pros: When foundation feels too heavy in summer or sunscreen alone isn't cutting it, this brightening moisturizer topped with concealer makes for a great everyday look.
Cons- Scent: The artificial fragrance is quite strong. Is it from the ingredients themselves? If it's added fragrance, they should've skipped it. - No SPF: While you'd need a separate sunscreen anyway since you use so little of this, as someone who double-layers SPF, having sun protection in this would've made it a great second sunscreen option.
Tip- After applying the brightening moisturizer, just a light touch of foundation or cushion works wonders. It creates a lightweight, translucent finish that's less prone to breaking down throughout the day.

The staying power is not bad either.
ConsThe gritty texture made it difficult to apply smoothly, which I personally disliked. The scent was quite strong and it stung my eyes a bit. Moreover, I couldn't feel any skincare benefits at all... Overall, it felt like a milder version of an old-school BB cream.
TipTo prevent it from looking patchy and ensure it adheres well, you need to be thorough with your basic skincare routine beforehand.

When applied in the right amount, it gave a natural brightening effect that made my face look more vibrant! However, there are quite a few downsides to this product... The first photo shows my hand with the emulsion applied - the left side is bare, and the right side has the product. The second photo shows how it settles into pores after application on bare skin.
ConsIt's drying and settles into pores. While it seems to apply smoothly at first, if you don't control the amount well, it can look patchy. Even when I applied just a tiny bit over a moisturizing organic sunscreen, it still seemed to separate over time. The instructions say to skip base products and apply directly, but I'm not so sure about that... Also, the scent is really strange. It's like a sharp, acetone-like smell that's really off-putting. If you control the amount well, it can look natural, but I'll need to experiment more to find the right amount for me. I won't be repurchasing.
TipMake sure to shake well before use and build up your skincare base properly. Use a moderate amount for the best results.

Tone-up, up and away It brightens the skin naturally without leaving a ghostly white cast! I've tried a tone-up cream that was previously ranked #1 on Hwahae, but it looked dull and unnatural. This product seems to truly 'tone up' the skin in a natural way. However, that doesn't mean it provides coverage. The coverage is almost non-existent... But it does seem to neutralize redness!
ConsThe scent is not great Other reviews mentioned it smells like powder or 'mom's nourishing cream', but to me, it just has a strange odor. I even wondered if it had gone bad because of the smell. It pills I wear glasses, so I'm quite sensitive to pilling, and this product pills quite a bit. Not just on glasses, but if you touch your face after applying, it leaves marks. It also seems to gather around the nose area. This is the most disappointing aspect... The tube At first, when I pressed the pump to squeeze out the product, the tube crumpled because it was so flimsy. I thought I'd have to write this as a con! But then I realized that when it's almost empty, you might be able to squeeze out the remaining product easily. I haven't actually tried it yet since there's still a lot left, but I wonder if that's what they had in mind when designing it...
TipThis might work well for those with an even complexion but just darker skin tone! Since it neutralized my redness well, I'd also recommend it for those concerned about flushing! I wouldn't recommend this for those needing coverage for dark spots or blemishes.
