It has a base that feels similar to a primer. Use only a small amount. If you don't apply just a small amount, it can clump up. Be sure to control the quantity when applying.

After applying this product before my makeup, I noticed a significant reduction in eyeshadow creasing and smudging. Now I use it every time before doing my eye makeup. Since I have to apply it to my eye area with the tip each time, I'm a bit concerned about hygiene. It truly doesn't smudge at all! I always had makeup getting stuck in my eyelid creases, and due to oiliness, my eye makeup would quickly fade and smear. Since using this NARS product, there's absolutely no smudging, and the staying power lasts all night long. It's excessively drying... I have thick double eyelids, which usually cause eyeshadow to smudge and rub off. But with this product, it's like I've discovered the ultimate fixative! Other products just can't compare to this one's staying power. The texture is a bit stiff and can clump, so you need to apply a small amount and blend it out well. My eyes have multiple eyelid creases, at least 5 on each side. I've been stressed about using eyeshadow my entire life. Within a few hours, it would always crease badly in my eyelid folds and aegyo-sal. Even setting it didn't help because of oil buildup. One day, I had my makeup done professionally, and the artist applied this on my eyelids. I was shocked after work - it stayed so matte! No creasing at all, just like when it was first applied. The artist used a tiny amount, so I bought it and use it the same way. I'm extremely satisfied! It doesn't seem to prevent eyeliner and mascara smudging. When I bought this, I switched to the So Simple Pencil for eyeliner. But because it fills in the waterline, I occasionally experienced under-eye smudging. You might want to check if your eyeliner and mascara products themselves are prone to smudging in the first place! Use an extremely small amount! Use so little that you'll wonder if it's enough. The color payoff is absolutely fantastic. It applies smoothly and doesn't irritate the eyes. However, it's no match for tears in the inner corner. If you cry, it'll all come off...

It doesn't work for me as I frequently use artificial tears. The eyeshadow disappears in no time. I got this as a free mini product when I purchased over $100 at a NARS store before, so I'm not too disappointed. I recommend testing it in-store before purchasing.

NARS is white and has a more matte finish, while Urban Decay is a light beige color and applies with a slightly moisturizing feel. After drying, both are thin and matte, but Urban Decay seems to be even more matte. On days when I use these, my eyeshadow definitely lasts longer. Shimmer and glitter also stay on longer. NARS feels like it applies a bit thinner compared to Urban Decay. Although it's white, when you blend it out it becomes transparent, but there's a subtle brightening effect. It might be preferred by those with fair complexions or those who want to brighten their skin tone a bit. Come to think of it, it contains talc, and I'm wondering if it's a good quality talc... It's one of those products where you don't notice the effects while using it, but you definitely see the difference when you stop. The color payoff is noticeably better. It spreads easily without clumping, even with just a small amount. The color payoff is great, and it barely smudges, making it a pleasure to use. It can feel a bit dry, and if you apply too much, it tends to pill on the skin.
