I have combination dehydrated skin, so foundation and cushions tend to break down, leaving my skin looking messy and dull. That's why I prefer sunscreens that can brighten my complexion, have good ingredients, provide excellent UV protection, and feel less greasy and more refreshing. I'm particularly careful when choosing sunscreen since it's the final step that evens out my skin tone and serves multiple functions. Once I find a product I like, I tend to stick with it for years! My usual sunscreen was running out, and after using the same one for years, I wanted to try something new. I immediately searched on the Hwahae app and discovered Beat The Sun. The fact that it contains beet made me think it would be really healthy, so I applied for the event. To my surprise, I was selected and was overjoyed! Now, let's talk about Beat The Sun! ☆Texture: It has a slightly yellow, thin consistency that feels cool on the skin when applied. It seems to have a cooling effect. ☆Ingredients: Zero bad ones! The ingredients are gentle, and it even contains beet root extract. ☆Scent: It has that typical sunscreen smell. However, despite the good ingredients, the scent on my face felt a bit chemical. This might vary from person to person, though. I'm quite sensitive to scents, so it might just be me, but most people would probably find it fine. ☆Application: Due to its thin consistency, it absorbs well and feels smooth when spread on the face. After application, it leaves a glowy finish on the skin - like a dewy look! ☆Brightening effect: It brightens very slightly. Rather than brightening, it feels more like it fills in skin texture and smooths everything out. So you could use it as a makeup base when going out, and for those who prefer light, natural makeup, especially when wearing a mask or going somewhere nearby, this alone might be enough. ☆Convenience: The product is thin and small, making it easy to carry. They say it's good to reapply sunscreen every 30 minutes, so it's great that you can easily carry this around and reapply when you're out. I also liked that the container opening is narrow and pointed, making it hygienic to use. ☆Longevity: This aspect was a bit disappointing. Since I have combination dehydrated skin, by evening my skin usually gets very oily, and this product made it even oilier than my previous sunscreen. I was upset about this. At first, it felt fresh and glowy, but as time passed, the oiliness seemed to make the sunscreen wear off. So, the longevity was a bit disappointing.
ConsAs I mentioned above, the scent and longevity were a bit disappointing. Since it contains beet root extract, I expected a fresh, natural scent, but it felt somewhat artificial. Also, if you have combination dehydrated skin like me, it might be good to apply a mattifying makeup base before the sunscreen, or finish with a matte cushion or powder after applying the sunscreen.
TipFor those who prefer natural makeup like me, or want to achieve a natural look with just sunscreen without foundation or cushion, Beat The Sun seems pretty good! However, if you have combination dehydrated skin, a more matte product might be better than this one!

That's why I consider sunscreen extremely important. Since my skin is super sensitive, I'm very picky when choosing sunscreens. Let me review the aspects I find crucial: Application: It applied much lighter and more moisturizing than I expected. I was satisfied with its essence-like texture (I don't like heavy emulsion types) It felt immediately absorbed after application, with no stickiness. Completely satisfied with the application. While I like good application, I always pass on products that cause pilling. But this product worked well with makeup! I once had a shocking experience with a sunscreen that applied well but pilled immediately when I put on foundation. However, this one absorbs quickly, so it plays well with makeup. When used alone, it gives a subtle natural glow! Scent: There was a strong alcohol smell at first. But it dissipated quickly, which was fortunate. (I'm sensitive to fragrances too) Also, I didn't experience any eye irritation! Another important factor I check is whether a product causes blemishes. My skin is prone to oily breakouts and blemishes from even a single cosmetic product... sigh. However, I've recently been trying to remove sebum with cleansing oil and ended up with a breakout, so I couldn't test this aspect. I'll have to check after my skin calms down! In conclusion, I'm satisfied and using it well.
ConsIf I had to pick a downside, it would be the initially strong alcohol scent, but it dissipated quickly so it was fine. When not wearing makeup, if you're outside for a long time, the natural glow from the sunscreen might look a bit oily.
TipEven for sunscreen, it's best to cleanse thoroughly, apply and let your skincare absorb well before applying sunscreen!

Skin Description: In spring and fall, I have oily skin with slightly dehydrated inner layers. In summer weather like now, my skin becomes extremely oily by afternoon. I have textured skin with large pores, and a redness-prone complexion with many freckles and blemishes. I don't often get pustular acne. My skin doesn't often react badly to ingredients, but occasionally when I encounter an incompatible ingredient, my skin becomes red and I feel a tingling sensation. Usual Routine: Due to my freckles, dark spots, and blemishes, I apply sunscreen every time I go out, regardless of the season. For makeup, I usually apply a thin layer of concealer and finish with powder. On days when I pay more attention to my skin makeup, I use primer -> sunscreen -> concealer -> foundation -> powder in that order. Product Texture: The texture is slightly thick but flows smoothly, making it easy to apply. It's between a thick serum and a thin cream consistency. Scent: While I'm not particularly sensitive to smells, I could detect a very faint alcohol scent when I sniffed deeply. However, this dissipates quickly along with the sunscreen's fragrance, so unless you're extremely sensitive to scents, it should be fine to use. Moisture: I was worried after reading reviews that said it felt oily and might be too rich for oily skin. However, when I applied it, I felt more moisture than oiliness. But on hot days, it might cause makeup to break down quickly if applied over cream, so I used it as a cream substitute in my skincare routine after serum. White Cast: I usually dislike tone-up creams or sunscreens with white cast as they make my redness-prone skin look pinkish and cloudy. This sunscreen has absolutely no white cast. Compatibility with Base Makeup: Since I usually wear makeup when going out, the sunscreen's compatibility with base products was important to me. I dislike when lack of hydration causes dead skin cells to appear while oil rises, so I usually prep my skin to be firm and slightly tacky with cleansing + hydrating serum + cream, then apply a semi-matte foundation or concealer. This sunscreen was moisturizing enough to use as a cream substitute, and even after about 7 hours of wear, there was only slight oiliness without any makeup breakdown, which was very satisfying. Wearing a mask all day caused some lifting at the mask's edges, but interestingly, in the humid and warm areas inside the mask, there was no pilling or breakdown - the oil seemed to blend well. (I used Numbuzin No.3 Toner -> Numbuzin No.3 Serum -> 'Veet The Sun' -> Benefit Porefessional + a bit of Matteresce in the T-zone -> Fit Me Concealer #15 thinly all over the face + an extra layer on blemishes) Overall: It's not too matte or greasy when worn alone, making it comfortable to wear, and it's also very suitable as a makeup base. + The attached photos show: Bare face after skincare, after applying sunscreen, right after makeup application, and about 9 hours after makeup application
ConsI didn't really notice any downsides, but if I had to mention one, it might feel too rich when used with a cream in summer weather. It's more suitable to use instead of cream in summer. People who are very sensitive to fragrances might feel slightly put off by the very faint alcohol scent.
TipAs I mentioned above, for those with oily skin, I recommend using this instead of cream before makeup in summer. It pairs very well with semi-matte to matte base products.

Unlike mineral sunscreens that can clog pores on my nose and T-zone over time, making my skin look dirty, this one doesn't clog pores at all - which is great! Despite having dry skin, I really dislike heavy textures, but this doesn't feel heavy at all when applied. It goes on smoothly, leaving my skin feeling hydrated (not oily) with a subtle glow that makes my complexion look better! It's refreshingly moisturizing, making my skin feel comfortable even after applying sunscreen. Some say chemical sunscreens can cause eye irritation, but I didn't experience any stinging. This sunscreen is perfect for those who, like me, hate that heavy feeling on their skin!
ConsIf I had to pick one drawback, it would be the slight alcohol scent. It's not overpowering, but there's a faint alcohol smell.

Combination dehydrated skin that changes with the seasons. Prone to contact dermatitis unless using prescribed emulsions. Extremely sensitive - even sunscreens from the dermatologist can trigger reactions. 🧡 Sunscreen pros: Initially worried about dryness due to the slight alcohol scent, but it's surprisingly moisturizing. Blends well with facial oils without feeling greasy. Despite my sensitive skin and mask-wearing, it caused fewer breakouts than typical prescription sunscreens. No irritation even with prolonged wear or reapplication. The texture isn't too runny. Suitable for combination dehydrated skin and potentially for oily skin types too. A versatile, top-performing sunscreen, though those with very oily skin might want to avoid it. # Skin photo attached
Cons💚 Drawbacks: The initial alcohol scent was concerning, especially for acne-prone sensitive skin like mine. Though it dissipates quickly, it was still a bit scary. 💙 The sample size makes it seem pricier compared to other sunscreens. However, considering the frequent sales of other brands, it may appear relatively expensive. Still, I believe the quality justifies the price.
Tip💜 For combination dehydrated and acne-prone skin: After applying your usual face cream, squeeze about a fingernail-sized amount directly onto your face rather than your hands. Gently pat it in without excessive rubbing for best results.

Sunscreens in particular never seemed to work well for me. The only ones that suited me were La Roche-Posay and Anessa Baby Sunscreen (now discontinued). After a series of disappointments, I tried countless new sunscreens but couldn't find a match. Just when I was about to give up, I discovered Make P:rem's Blue Ray Sun Cream, which I've been using happily. Packaging: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ When I first received it, I loved that it came in a clear plastic bag. It felt like opening a treat and reassured me that no one had used it before. Sometimes, paper boxes without seals inside or out can make you feel uneasy, but this wasn't the case here. Volume: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ The 50ml size is perfect for carrying around. Its small size means I can always use it fresh. Of course, the plastic case isn't great for the environment. Texture: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It has a slightly runny, ivory-colored texture. It's easy to apply and doesn't pill or feel uncomfortable when reapplying. There's no white cast either. Application Experience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Firstly, there's a slight alcohol scent. Those sensitive to alcohol might want to avoid it. I haven't checked the full ingredients list, so I'm not sure if it contains alcohol, but the scent is there. Secondly, it applies very smoothly and feels like an emulsion. It's great for reapplication, has no white cast, and works well even with generous application. However, being sensitive, I felt a slight grayish tint when applying too much, so I stuck to a moderate amount. Thirdly, right after application, there's a slight oily sheen that disappears after a while. My usual Make P:rem sunscreen leaves a more matte finish, while this one feels more like an emulsion. Daily Use: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I used to prefer matte finishes for makeup, but since wearing masks, I've switched to lighter makeup with minimal base. However, after using this product, people commented that my complexion looked off. As time passes, it seems to develop an oily sheen that slightly darkens my skin tone. (For reference, I never got such comments when using the Make P:rem product) Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ As a sunscreen nomad, I've tried everything from non-nano to mineral and organic filters, 'natural' products, famous brands, and gentle formulas. While many caused small bumps or irritation, this one didn't. The only downside is the slight darkening of complexion throughout the day, but it applies naturally and doesn't cause breakouts. I'm more than satisfied! However, I'll likely stick with my current Make P:rem product. If Make P:rem ever discontinues their sunscreen, I'd switch to this one. Recommended Skin Types: This would suit those with sensitive (but not extremely sensitive) skin, or those who don't get along with mineral or non-nano sunscreens!
ConsComplexion: It's really disappointing that my complexion darkens during the day after use. It's such a great product otherwise... Scent: There's a mild alcohol scent that made me think it would be irritating, but it actually wasn't. Still, the presence of an alcohol scent isn't ideal.
TipSince I have dry skin, I don't use blotting paper or powder. If you do use these after application, it might prevent the darkening of your complexion!

My skin type is thin, prone to redness, dry, and occasionally gets small blemishes. Texture: Lightweight, absorbs well, and feels smooth (see attached photo). 1. No eye irritation I've only tried organic UV filters in Huxley samples before, but this one caused no eye irritation at all, which was great. 2. Moisturizing and absorbs well As someone with dry skin, I find that even 'moisturizing' mineral sunscreens feel dry and gritty. This one is hydrating without excessive shine, which I love. It's not sticky at all - absolutely no stickiness. I'm really impressed. 3. No blemishes (ingredients) Despite being an organic sunscreen, it didn't irritate my skin. The ad mentions they use only hypoallergenic or low-allergenic UV filters, making it non-irritating. It was definitely gentle and non-irritating for my skin. 4. Small size makes it very portable It's perfect for my small bag these days, takes up no space, and even fits in my pants pocket! I would repurchase. It's moisturizing like it claims, without being greasy, which I really appreciate. It doesn't irritate my skin, and I love the small packaging. Although it's a bit pricey, the way it absorbs is really excellent. I think I've found my holy grail sunscreen thanks to The Hwahae Testers!
Cons1. Packaging The sunscreen doesn't come out easily. Even though it's new, you have to tap it like an emulsion sample to get it out. It doesn't come out well with just a squeeze. 2. Scent It has a typical chemical sunscreen smell. I don't mind it, but many people might dislike it. It's not too strong and disappears after application. 3. Price per volume It seems expensive for the amount you get. I tend to reapply often and use it on my arms too, so the price feels too high for the volume.
TipApply sunscreen 20 minutes before going outside. Even if you have a similar skin type to mine, you might still experience eye irritation from sunscreens, so those with sensitive skin should keep this in mind. I noticed some other reviews mention eye irritation.

I've used this product in various situations for an objective assessment. The texture is like an emulsion - it doesn't drip but isn't too thick either. Here's my experience: 1. When applying only sunscreen generously: - There was a slight stickiness, but not unpleasant. It felt like applying a moisturizing emulsion. The absorption and application were good. - I liked that it didn't have that unpleasant heaviness or grittiness typical of sunscreens. It felt more like applying a hydrating emulsion. 2. When applying makeup after generous sunscreen application: - I prefer a matte base, so I also used primer and powder. There was no pilling. I deliberately applied a generous amount since I'd seen reviews mentioning pilling, but it didn't pill or leave an oily residue on my eyebrows. When finished with a setting spray, it didn't affect the longevity of my makeup. 3. When applying a thin layer of sunscreen: - This was the most refreshing, finishing like an emulsion. Being an organic sunscreen, I liked that it could be removed with just foam cleansing, without needing a second cleanse. After using it for several days in various situations, I found the overall application and absorption to be good. My skin has become quite sensitive since taking dermatological medication, but I didn't have any issues over several days of use. However, this could vary from person to person. Overall: Good application and absorption, generally versatile, and has enough moisturizing power to not interfere with makeup.
ConsBreaking it down by situation: 1. When applying only sunscreen generously: - While some might like the moisturizing emulsion-like texture, I'm not a big fan. It gets greasy over time and mixes with my skin's natural oils, feeling quite uncomfortable. This sunscreen was better than other heavy ones, but I'd hesitate to recommend it to those with very oily skin. - There's a slight alcohol scent. It's not strong and fades naturally over time. - While it didn't cause issues for my skin, it's not completely non-irritating. I felt a slight burning sensation when applying. Those with more sensitive skin should use caution. - There was some eye irritation. Since it's not waterproof, sweat or oil can cause it to get into your eyes, leading to slight tearing. 2. When applying makeup after generous sunscreen application: - This is tricky. When I saw reviews mentioning pilling, I thought it could happen. I've experienced severe pilling with more moisturizing sunscreens, and the texture when not wearing makeup made me think, 'This could pill if not careful.' However, it didn't pill with my first makeup application. I tried again today, and it seems not to pill with a matte base. But I think it could easily pill depending on your skincare routine or base makeup compatibility. Overall: There's a slight alcohol scent and some eye irritation. It may cause slight irritation for sensitive skin. If it were a bit cheaper, I'd consider repurchasing.

It has the exact texture of an emulsion. Even after application, my skin feels just like it does after my regular skincare routine. As a result, there's absolutely no issue with makeup looking cakey or uneven. Having sensitive skin, I often experience breakouts with different products, but this sunscreen doesn't cause any blemishes, which I'm really happy about. Since it's like an emulsion, there's no white cast at all.
ConsAs someone with oily skin, I found it a bit too hydrating for my liking. On the plus side, I usually get a lot of dead skin cells around my blemishes, but thanks to its moisturizing properties, that wasn't an issue this time! It seems to be fragrance-free, but there's a slight chemical scent... maybe a hint of alcohol? It's very faint though! Update: After using it for a few more days, unfortunately my skin had a bad reaction to it.
TipI think it works best when applied right after your skincare routine. Since it has an emulsion-like texture, you don't even feel like you're wearing sunscreen!

It feels like an essence, applying smoothly to the skin. It's perfect for summer with its light texture. What's great is how well it works under makeup - when you apply foundation over it, there's no pilling and your skin looks flawless. I usually dislike the slightly thick application of mineral sunscreens, but this chemical sunscreen glides on effortlessly. Plus, it's free from harmful ingredients, so I'm using it with peace of mind! Being a chemical sunscreen, it does give a bit of a glow. If I wore this alone outside, people might mistake it for oily skin, so I only use it when I'm planning to apply makeup.
ConsThe scent isn't great, unfortunately. It's like a mix of glue with something else added? When I first smelled it, I was taken aback. I'm not particularly sensitive to scents, so I've gotten used to it with continued use. However, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who's sensitive to fragrances.
