My scalp is oily, but my hair is thin and dry, so I always found it stressful when essences or conditioners made my hair greasy too quickly. However, this product seems excellent for people like me! First off, it has a distinct peppermint scent. Needless to say, the cooling effect is on point (it made me want to buy the shampoo too). Honestly, I was worried it might make my scalp greasy quickly, but it seems to balance the oil and moisture well. Even after some time, my scalp didn't feel too oily or dry. While it doesn't have a dramatic effect of making your hair silky smooth like seaweed, it does make it moderately softer and reduces static. I felt like if I used it daily, my hair would gradually improve! I think it would work even better when used with the matching shampoo. If you're used to sweet and fragrant hair products, you might find this peppermint and menthol scent off-putting or unfamiliar. If I had any teenagers going through puberty around me, I'd love to gift them this brand's shampoo and conditioner! With my thick, long hair, I'd turn into Hagrid with all the static if I didn't use one. This conditioner works just as well as my usual treatment, leaving my hair silky smooth. I know there's a difference between conditioners, rinses, and treatments, but this conditioner performed just as well as my usual clinic-specific treatment. It left my hair soft and didn't irritate my sensitive scalp at all! Many people mention the scent, but I don't mind the minty fragrance. It didn't bother me at all while using it! I prefer using generous amounts of treatments and conditioners, but the bottle was a bit difficult to squeeze out the product. For best results, apply to your hair and leave on for about 5 minutes before rinsing.

It's a scalp care specialist brand under the global hair care giant Wella. Since 1987, they've been researching solutions for thinning hair, a common concern for modern people. Thinning hair refers to the phenomenon where scalp health deteriorates, causing hair to become thinner and sparser. Interestingly, founder Eva Graham established the company to find answers to her father's hair concerns she observed in her childhood. Wondering about the meaning of 'No.5' in the product name? I looked it up and found that Nioxin products are divided into six categories based on hair type (natural, color-treated, or chemically-treated) and stage (early or progressed). The No.5 conditioner I used is for early-stage chemically-treated hair. Let me describe my scalp and hair condition first. My scalp is relatively healthy with no signs of hair loss yet, but my hair is quite dry and damaged from daily hot air drying. After using the Nioxin conditioner, I must say my hair feels incredibly soft and smooth, like silky seaweed. I can definitely vouch for its hair care capabilities. However, true to the brand's identity, I'm not sure if it improves scalp health as well. The main issue is that I'm losing a lot of hair. It's like all the benefits of using an anti-hair loss shampoo go down the drain the moment I use this conditioner. Upon checking the ingredient list, I noticed it contains many potentially irritating components. The scent is a strong menthol fragrance, giving a cooling sensation from the scalp, like applying dissolved Halls or throat lozenges. This might be a love-it-or-hate-it feature for some users. Of course, consumers know that fragrance-free is often the best option. For a brand that claims to specialize in sensitive scalp and hair care, the ingredients are surprisingly unfavorable. The days of blindly trusting Western products are over, and they have a long way to go to catch up with K-beauty standards. To survive in the Korean scalp care market, they really need to reformulate with better ingredients. This product is designed for use on both the scalp and hair. Apply it to your scalp and hair, leave it on for about 3 minutes, then rinse for silky smooth results. If you prefer not to apply it to your scalp, you can use it on your hair alone.

I had the chance to try System 5 conditioner through The Hwahae Testers, which is recommended for both natural and color-treated normal to thick hair for prevention and early-stage care - (Texture) The typical opaque white gel-cream texture you'd expect from a rinse/conditioner - (Scent) A subtle minty fragrance reminiscent of peppermint candy - (How to use) After shampooing, apply evenly not just to the hair but also to the scalp, massage, and rinse after 1-3 minutes - Interestingly, despite being a conditioner (rinse), it's not only safe for the scalp but actually more effective when applied directly and massaged into the scalp! - (Experience-Cooling effect) While the scent is a subtle peppermint candy smell, the feeling when applied to hair and scalp is like putting an intense mint candy on your head - the cooling effect is immediately noticeable -> Especially great for those with hot scalps or as a refreshing summer treat with its invigorating and cool sensation - (Hair texture/Scalp) When applied, hair instantly becomes super soft like seaweed soaked in water. After rinsing, while not as dramatic as the immediate effect, it still leaves hair more hydrated, soft, smooth, and shiny than the average conditioner. My hair is slightly wavy and severely damaged from perms and coloring. It tangles easily, sheds a lot, and I have an oily scalp with severe flaking and heat sensitivity - the worst combination! That's why I'm always interested in hair products and use masks or treatments every time I wash my hair. It's always been a struggle to keep products off my scalp, so I was thrilled to find a conditioner that can be used on the scalp too. The texture is thicker than regular rinse but softer than a hair mask - just like a treatment. At first, I worried it might make my hair greasy as it felt like it was coating my hair and scalp, but after rinsing thoroughly, my hair felt soft without any heaviness. It detangled well and was easy to comb! After a week of use, I noticed a significant reduction in scalp itching and flaking. It seems to suit me well. While it hasn't completely eliminated the itching, it's definitely better than using any cheap product from the store. I'll be using it up quickly and plan to repurchase. The pump doesn't work, so you have to turn it upside down and squeeze hard to get the product out. Since I wash my hair daily, I go through it quickly, and the price is a bit steep. I was still a bit concerned about leaving it on my scalp for too long, so I applied it to my hair first and then to my scalp last. I squeeze out some product to massage into my hair, then squeeze out more to gently massage my scalp before rinsing. My hair is extremely dry due to frequent coloring. ✔️ Texture It doesn't give that super silky, glossy feel like a hair mask, but it does provide a moderate shine. The texture isn't super slippery when you squeeze it out. It might work better for those with oilier hair. That said, it doesn't leave your hair feeling parched either. Even with my dry hair, I didn't find it making my locks feel stiff. ✔️ Another great thing is that it's safe to use on the scalp. Knowing it's scalp-friendly gives me peace of mind when using it. It makes me feel like it's a product that's truly beneficial for overall hair health. ✔️ Scent It has a cool, refreshing peppermint scent. I checked the ingredients and found peppermint and menthol! The minty fragrance was unexpected - at first, I wasn't a fan of the scent, but as I used it more, I found that the peppermint aroma gave me a sense of cleanliness that I really enjoyed. ✔️ Application It's a bit inconvenient to use. Usually, shampoos and conditioners come in tube or pump formats, but the Nioxin 5 packaging requires squeezing, and it's not even in a tube form, making it awkward to dispense. The packaging design makes it seem like you won't be able to use up all the product at the bottom. This product might be great for those who enjoy a menthol scent and want a finish that's not too rich. My husband, who used to skip conditioner out of laziness and just use shampoo, actually enjoyed using the Nioxin conditioner. (He especially liked the cooling sensation on his scalp!) What I loved most about it is that even when you use a generous amount, it doesn't make your hair greasy or weigh it down! Usually, I only apply treatments to the ends of my hair (applying all over makes it limp), but with Nioxin, my hair doesn't feel heavy at all after drying. Oh, and on busy mornings when you can't leave the treatment on for long, just one minute is enough to make your hair super soft and smooth. I'm really impressed with how well this product works. If there's one thing that might be divisive, it's probably the strong mint scent. It's not a fresh, light mint - it's more of an intense, almost medicinal aroma. It reminds me of menthol rub. For best results, apply it all over your hair in the shower (it's okay if it touches your scalp), then put on a shower cap. Even with the same amount of time, your hair becomes much softer and smoother this way.
