I tried a sample and it was just okay, nothing special.
ConsI have oily and super sensitive skin, and this caused blemishes. It seems the toner is more focused on nourishment, which might be too much for my skin. While it didn't cause any issues with small bumps or skin texture, it did lead to a few large inflammatory blemishes that I rarely get, so I had to stop using it.

(Update) I've discontinued use. - Made my skin sensitive and weak. - Blemishes appeared in areas where I usually don't get them. - Increased redness. - Skin texture became uneven. My skin returned to its original state a week after stopping use. (Please read the detailed information in the 'Cons' section!) 08.10. This is a review from The Hwahae Testers! <Quick Summary> + Moisturizing power of an essence toner + Silky smooth finish - Disappointing potentially allergenic ingredients ☆ Skin Type Sensitive, Combination to Dry I was born with dry skin, but through diligent care, I've improved my skin condition to combination type when I started using this! My facial skin is very thin (you can see the capillaries) and sensitive. ☆ Texture Milky white color, looks as fluid as water. ☆ Moisturizing Power To check its moisturizing ability, I applied only this toner. Compared to other toners, it took much longer before I felt any tightness or dryness. Those with oily skin might be able to use this alone! ☆ Application It leaves a pleasantly silky smooth finish. If I exaggerate a bit, it feels like touching warm, damp porcelain... haha! In terms of application, this might be the best among all the toners I've tried! I recommend this for those who don't have sensitive skin!
Cons08.29. (Update) I've discontinued use. I used it for just under a month, and while the moisturizing power and finish were good, I felt like my skin was becoming more sensitive. There weren't any major blemishes, so I continued using it... My skin gradually became more sensitive, and then blemishes started appearing one by one. I thought it might be due to hormones during my period and didn't think much of it, but then blemishes started appearing in areas where I don't usually get them. Overall, my face, especially my cheeks, became very red, my skin texture became uneven, and I got blemishes in areas where I don't usually break out. The redness wasn't just a simple flush, but more like my skin was having an adverse reaction to a product, with a rough, inflamed look. The texture was particularly bad around my forehead, nose, and sides of the nose. One day, looking in the mirror, I actually said out loud, "Wow, what's wrong with my face?" Suspecting it might be because of this product, I stopped using it, and within a week, my skin returned to normal. This really made me realize once again the importance of ingredients... 8.10. Review from The Hwahae Testers - Disappointing ingredients. While I haven't had any major blemishes yet, my skin seems to be becoming more sensitive with continued use... I'm planning to take a break and try using it again. (I'll update the review after using it for a longer period!) I also received cotton pads with the tester, but I'm a bit hesitant to do a toner mask with this... There are two potentially allergenic ingredients, both of which are fragrances. I wonder if they really needed to be included... that's disappointing. The product itself has a tangy lemon-lime scent. I don't like fragrances... I deducted one star because it seems to make my skin sensitive due to the ingredients, and another star because I didn't find it particularly charming as a toner product.. While I was satisfied with its moisturizing power and it had the best application feel, there are so many toners these days with good moisturizing power and perfect ingredients.. Since toner is the first product applied to completely bare skin after cleansing, I'm even more concerned about the ingredients.

ConsI really wanted to love this product because the texture, scent, and functions were exactly what I needed. Unfortunately, after using it for a day, I noticed some blemishes on my cheeks. I thought it might be unrelated and continued using it, but then red spots appeared on my forehead too. I've stopped using it for now. The blemishes seem to be subsiding since I stopped, which suggests the product might be the cause. I might try it again when my skin feels a bit dry.
TipIf you soak a sponge cotton pad generously and use it as a mask, you can feel a deep, intense hydration!

First, let me describe my skin type: combination + combination dehydrated skin + extremely oily + super sensitive + I get cystic acne on my cheeks 3-4 times a month and have lots of blackheads. Basically, I've got all the problematic skin issues you can think of. Oh, this cursed skin of mine... Now, onto the main points. When I first received the package, it contained the toner, a box of cotton pads, and a brand information leaflet. After using this product, I found four main benefits: 1. It hydrates the skin As someone with combination dehydrated skin, no matter how thoroughly I double cleanse, if I don't apply skincare immediately after washing my face (because I'm feeling lazy), my face would instantly become an oil slick - as if I'd applied a mixture of cooking oil and water. Worse still, my skin underneath felt as dry as a wrung-out cloth. However, when I used this product by soaking a cotton pad with a moderate amount (don't drench it - it'll just drip everywhere!) and applying it to both cheeks, forehead, and chin for 10 minutes, my skin felt genuinely hydrated. Now, when we talk about hydration, many people assume it comes with excess oil, but with this product, if we consider the total effect as 1, only about 0.3 of that would be oiliness. 2. It clarifies the skin To avoid any misunderstanding, I'm not talking about whitening effects here. What I mean is that it brings out your skin's natural tone with a healthy glow. For example, if you have a slightly dark yellow warm undertone, it helps reveal that original yellow skin tone. It's not about changing your shade from 22 to 21 or anything like that. About three days after I started using this product, I looked in the bathroom mirror to wash my face and thought, 'Huh? What's going on? My skin looks clearer, but I don't use any whitening products...' It turns out this product was providing hydration while making my dull complexion look more alive and clearer. These days, I'm so happy I can go out wearing just sunscreen! 3. It improves skin texture, making makeup application smoother After applying this, the effect may vary depending on your skin type, but for me, I apply APIEU cream right after this essence toner, and it definitely helps my makeup adhere better. 4. It has a pleasant scent When I first opened it, there was a subtle mix of floral notes and a scent reminiscent of men's skincare products. It wasn't overwhelming or unpleasant at all - just a soft, pleasant fragrance that gently wafts up.
ConsAs I mentioned earlier, I'm prone to acne on my cheeks, so I usually only use water-based toners like Dokdo Toner. However, possibly due to my sensitive skin, I experienced some blemishes on my cheeks. The cotton pads that came with it also felt a bit rough. While it does have some effects, considering the price, it might be worth looking into other similar products. Moreover, the ingredient list contains many components that those with sensitive skin should be cautious about, which is why I eventually stopped using it.
TipThe texture is too sticky to use as an exfoliating toner. For a hydrating effect, try soaking a thin cotton pad with this toner, place it in an unused food container, lightly spray another layer of essence toner on top, and refrigerate for about 10 minutes. When you take it out and apply it to your face, you'll involuntarily exclaim, 'Wow, that's refreshing!' Of course, if you tend to have hot skin, you might just find it pleasantly cool.

I have somewhat sensitive skin, and this caused what looks like hives, definitely not pimples or acne. I'm prone to redness on my cheeks, and this made several red spots appear around those areas. It doesn't hurt though. This is the only skincare product I've changed recently, but there could be other causes, so I'll keep using it for a few more days. +2020.08.26 Updating my review after using this product for another week: The hive-like bumps would disappear only to reappear in different areas. I only changed the toner in my usual routine. But then, the hives completely vanished. This kind of redness was a first for me... I usually use a dry skin toner with oily skin emulsion and cream, so this product, being a slightly richer toner for dry skin, seemed fine at first. But I won't be using it again... If you don't experience hives, it might be a good product for you.
TipIn summer, I keep my skincare products in the fridge (not the food fridge). Occasionally, I'll soak a 5-ply cotton pad with the toner and use it as a mask. It seems to have a cooling effect and helps with dryness - it's great!

As someone with acne-prone skin, I wanted to use this product for an extended period to determine if any breakouts were due to the product or not. That's why I'm posting this review after thorough testing! The package included a booklet, cotton pads, and the main product. Although it was my first time encountering this brand, my initial impression was that it looked clean and had a pretty design - it felt like receiving a gift! The amount dispensed is just right, so there were no difficulties in use. At first, I thought the bottle was glass, but it's actually quite sturdy, showing that they put care into its production. ✔ The scent is reminiscent of grass, herbs, and fruit peels. While this kind of fragrance might be divisive, I personally enjoy it. It gave me the impression that the product would be really good, so I was satisfied with the scent. ✔ True to its name as an 'essence toner', the texture is between a viscous essence and a watery toner - perhaps best described as a runny consistency. It feels quite hydrating and somewhat moisturizing. When first applied, it glides on smoothly, almost as if it contains oil, but quickly dries to a soft finish. ✔ My final thoughts: I wouldn't recommend this to those who already have acne-prone skin and struggle with persistent blemishes regardless of the products they use. Given that it provides hydration while also feeling moisturizing, it seems more suitable for dry skin types rather than oily skin.
ConsI developed blemishes around my mouth area where I didn't have any before... At first, I thought it might be due to wearing a mask, but I usually get breakouts on my cheeks, not around my mouth. It seems likely that it's because of this product. Since there are ingredients that can trigger blemishes, I'd recommend those with acne-prone skin to avoid it.
TipGiven the viscous texture of the product, I think it would be more effective to use it as a pack with thin cotton pads.

With super sensitive skin that's slow to heal, I've been hesitant to switch up my skincare routine. For 5 years, I've stuck to the same basic products (toner, emulsion, moisturizer) out of fear of blemishes. Two years ago, I added an essence for extra hydration. Even after winning, I was a bit nervous to try a new product. I did a patch test on my inner arm the day before, and when there was no reaction, I decided to give it a go. Usually, I apply toner twice, followed by essence, emulsion, and cream for hydration. With this product, applying it twice provided enough moisture that I could skip the essence step. It offers both hydration and a slight richness. I think this would be perfect for those who want a more moisturizing option without adding an extra essence to their routine. For me, applying it twice felt a bit heavy in the current humid weather, so I've been using it just once after toner. If you typically layer your toner multiple times, you might want to consider that before using this product. (The texture is a bit heavier than watery, so you can probably tell it might feel heavy with multiple applications!) It's been a while since I've changed up my skincare routine, so I'll update with any changes or tips after using it for a longer period!
ConsGiven my sensitive skin, I did experience some blemishes. While my patch test on my arm was fine, I developed a pimple on my forehead after about 3 days. However, when I reduced application from twice to once, it started to clear up. If you have extremely sensitive skin, I'd recommend trying a sample first to see how your skin reacts.

However, due to constant mask-wearing lately, my U-zone (especially my chin that's always in contact with the mask) is experiencing excessive sebum production and inflammation. Scent: It has a neutral fragrance. I'm not particularly sensitive to scents, so I used it without any discomfort. However, it contains some oils that might irritate super sensitive skin. Keep this in mind if you have extremely sensitive skin. Despite having severe blemishes on my chin, I didn't experience any issues due to the oils. Texture and application: This is the 'runny toner' texture I've only heard about. To describe it less elegantly, it's like a watery, drippy consistency. I tried both the exfoliating toner method and the 'soak' method, and I liked both. Exfoliating toner method: It came with 5-layer cotton pads. Since many Hwahae reviews mentioned that using it as an exfoliating toner wastes product, I split the 5-layer pad into 2 layers, which worked well. However, after 7 rounds of exfoliation, it started to feel a bit oily, partly due to my oily skin type. I found that 2 rounds of exfoliation worked best for me. Soak method: Similar to the exfoliating method, applying it twice seemed optimal. I love the slippery feeling when applying, which made me want to keep applying more! Hydration: Even one application eliminates deep dryness completely! So, I apply it twice after showering before drying my hair, and then use a soothing mask after my hair is dry. I used to use a water-based toner, but this provides a whole new level of deep hydration. Highly recommended for those with dry skin!
ConsNot perfect for my skin type: When I applied multiple layers at night, I noticed my milia seemed to worsen. As it's an essence toner, it does have a slightly rich feel. For combination or oily skin types, I'd suggest not layering it too much and applying a thin layer in the morning rather than at night.
TipMy evening routine before bed: 1) Toner -> 2) Ampoule -> 3) Soothing mask -> 4) Rinse with water -> 5) Basic skincare When I use this toner in step 1, it provides deep hydration while allowing me to remove excess oil during step 4 when I rinse with water.

I'll do my best to explain in detail my impressions after using the product for 3-4 days. First, let me describe my skin: I have oily, sensitive skin prone to blemishes, especially on my forehead. Here are the aspects I enjoyed: Scent: The moment I opened the product, I was thrilled that the fragrance wasn't overpowering! I'm usually very sensitive to scents and often can't use products despite their quality, but this one had a subtle, non-irritating aroma that was just perfect. Hydration: The rich texture really gave the impression of filling my skin with moisture! I can definitely vouch for it as a hydration magnet toner! For my oily skin, using just this essence toner alone provided sufficient hydration. When I used it as a mask with the provided Lagom 5-layer cotton pads, it felt like it was truly pushing moisture into my skin. Anti-aging: This product is advertised as an anti-aging toner. Since I'm still a teenager, I asked my mom in her 40s to review it! While she didn't notice visible changes due to the short usage period, she felt her skin became more supple and moisturized. My mom, who has combination skin, was really satisfied with this toner!
ConsTexture: Before applying for The Hwahae Testers, I knew it had a rich texture, but it was too heavy for my oily, blemish-prone skin. After use, I started developing blemishes in areas where I don't usually get them (cheeks, chin, nose). I'd recommend avoiding it in summer when sebum production increases, even if you don't have oily skin. Allergenic Ingredients: Apparently, it contains limonene and linalool, which can cause allergic reactions. I wouldn't recommend it for those with sensitive skin like mine. In my case, I had an allergic reaction on my forehead on the last day of use (I've attached a photo, though it's not pretty). Fortunately, it cleared up the day after I stopped using it, but if you have oily and sensitive skin, this is definitely a product to avoid. However, my mom, who doesn't have sensitive skin, really loved this toner! I think it's worth trying if you don't have sensitive skin.
TipI recommend this for those with oily skin who aren't sensitive! Try using it as a mask once a week! The hydration is truly amazing!

I applied it with a cotton pad to smooth my skin texture, then patted more in with my hands. Even with just this toner, I didn't feel any dryness at all. The finish has a bit of tackiness - your hands feel slightly sticky, and if you touch your face, it's like that famous hydrating toner ad where your skin feels delightfully plump and bouncy. I only used the toner and serum, but didn't feel dry at all, and my skin texture seemed more refined.
ConsIt takes about a minute of patting for it to absorb completely. I wouldn't say it absorbs particularly quickly. It stings a bit if it touches any areas with active blemishes or broken skin - I felt a slight irritation. I did experience some breakouts for a few days after using it, but since it could be due to hormones, I'll keep using it consistently and update my review later!
