Tony Moly Backstage Gel Eyeliner Review A budget-friendly gem perfect for gel liner newbies! The creamy texture glides on smoothly, and once set, it stays put without smudging. The built-in brush means no need to pack an extra tool. With a range of shades, you can create looks from natural everyday to bold and dramatic. Just keep in mind that residue can build up on the brush over time, and the gel may dry out if the cap isn't tightly closed. Star Rating: Pros: ✅ Applies smoothly and lasts long once set ✅ Great value for a daily-use gel eyeliner ✅ Built-in brush for convenience ✅ Variety of colors for different looks Cons: ⚠️ Product may clump if brush isn't cleaned regularly ⚠️ Gel can dry out quickly if cap isn't sealed properly ⚠️ May smudge on oily eyelids without primer or powder Room for Improvement: • Slight smudging possible on oily lids over time. Use primer or powder to improve longevity! • Gel format may be less convenient than pencil for quick application • Requires tight cap closure after use to prevent drying. Clean brush after use for crisp lines. Pro Tips: 💙 For more vibrant, long-lasting color → Apply gel liner, then set with dark eyeshadow 💙 For a natural look → Use brush to fill in between lashes 💙 For precise winged liner → Apply thin layers with minimal product on brush to reduce mistakes - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinSep 20, 2024
I finally understand why everyone raves about the Tony Moly Back Gel Eyeliner... It's absolutely amazing! I usually use Clio Sharpsoo and Kiss Me brush pen liners, but this one feels like it combines the best of both worlds - the pigmentation of a pencil with the precision of a brush pen. 1️⃣ No smudging whatsoever 2️⃣ The tip is thin and just right for easy application 3️⃣ Zero irritation 4️⃣ Great value for money The eye photo I've attached was taken 8 hours after application! Compared to other pencil and brush pen liners on the market, it's a bit bulky, so not as portable as I'd like! Pro tip: Adjust the amount on the cap for even better results - Hwahae UserDry SkinJan 1, 2024
The gel liner has a pleasantly smooth application, which is a nice feature. I decided to try this again after a long time because I had fond memories of using it before. However, it's more difficult to apply than I expected and seems to smudge easily. - Hwahae UserDehydrated SkinApr 26, 2023
You know how salon makeup is all the rage these days, right? I actually wanted to buy a Pro:8 Cheongdam product they recommended, but I ended up getting this to meet the coupon amount. Surprisingly, I'm absolutely loving it and using it regularly! I had tried the black one before, but back then I wasn't great at applying makeup, and the black just didn't suit me. But this brown one? It's a game-changer! The color is gorgeous, it absorbs well, and the staying power is impressive. Highly recommend! There's not really anything to complain about. The amount is generous... Beginners might need some time to get used to the gel eyeliner format, but honestly, I can't find any downsides! I've heard the brush that comes with it is great too! Personally, I use a Picasso brush. Here's a pro tip: before applying the eyeliner, slightly dampen the brush with cream, wipe it off with a tissue or wet wipe, then apply the eyeliner. This technique helps you achieve a more precise application! - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinMar 25, 2023
I can't believe it's been almost 8.9 years since I last bought this, and it's still the best value for money. The quality at this price point is incredible... I really hope they never discontinue it! The built-in brush is a huge plus - no need to buy a separate one, and it's so convenient for storage. Given the low price, I have no complaints about the brush quality either. The color is vibrant, and it applies creamily and smoothly, making it great for beginners who struggle with eyeliner. The staying power is decent, and it's easy to remove with cleanser. The quantity is generous too - you're more likely to toss it because it's dried out than because you've run out! To be honest, I don't have any real complaints about the quality... The value for money is so good that I couldn't find any downsides to this product. If I had to nitpick, maybe the bulky design that sticks out in your makeup pouch? - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAtopy SkinSensitive SkinFeb 27, 2023
The brush that comes with it makes application convenient. You can draw thin lines with the brush. It has a natural brown color. The application is smooth, and it has good staying power. It's actually better than I expected. As long as it doesn't dry out too quickly, I think I'll use it well. The brush is nice, and the color is a perfect, natural brown that's easy to use. It applies smoothly too! It's a good idea to clean the brush with a wet wipe or damp cotton pad after use before storing it. I found it easier to use than pencil types because you can draw thin lines with it. - Hwahae UserDry SkinAtopy SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinJan 18, 2023
The value for money, application, and staying power are all fantastic... but why on earth does it contain parabens? It's such a shame! The brush makes it easy to apply, and the cream-like texture feels comfortable even when drawing eyeliner. Honestly, apart from the ingredients, it's a truly excellent product. If only it didn't have parabens, which are known carcinogens... As someone who cares deeply about ingredients, I probably won't repurchase it. I thought I'd found my holy grail product, but I'm disappointed. The formula contains parabens. Everything else about it is great! The brush that comes with the product sometimes picks up too much product. Personally, I find it more convenient to use a separately purchased eyeliner brush. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinDec 20, 2022
I bought this product without hesitation since I've been using it regularly. The color is beautiful and it absorbs wonderfully! I got it on sale, so it was a great purchase. It's a bit disappointing that the shelf life isn't very long. Also, there's an alarming amount of dust on the product... - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinAug 6, 2022
This product, though now discontinued, was one I used consistently. After only using intense black brush pens, this was the first eyeliner that made me switch. The color was perfect, and despite being a gel brush, I loved how it applied and its staying power. While it might be a bit trickier than a brush pen, it created such a natural look that it actually improved my makeup style. I fell in love with this product, and the color was just perfect. The downside was that towards the end of use, the brush started to split, making application a bit frustrating. I ended up buying a new brush to continue using it, which was slightly inconvenient. Be careful not to apply too much, or it might clump when drawing your eyeliner. Use just the right amount! - Hwahae UserDry SkinJun 21, 2022
It absorbs smoothly and evenly. The color matches exactly what you see on screen. It's precisely the shade I was looking for! I got a great deal for the price. It's almost too soft. While the softness is nice, it can make precise application a bit challenging. If you lightly draw along the outer corner of your eye, you can create a beautiful cat-eye effect.
