Tony Moly Backstage Gel Eyeliner Review A budget-friendly gem perfect for gel liner newbies! The creamy texture glides on smoothly, and once set, it stays put without smudging. The built-in brush means no need to pack an extra tool. With a range of shades, you can create looks from natural everyday to bold and dramatic. Just keep in mind that residue can build up on the brush over time, and the gel may dry out if the cap isn't tightly closed. Star Rating: Pros: ✅ Applies smoothly and lasts long once set ✅ Great value for a daily-use gel eyeliner ✅ Built-in brush for convenience ✅ Variety of colors for different looks Cons: ⚠️ Product may clump if brush isn't cleaned regularly ⚠️ Gel can dry out quickly if cap isn't sealed properly ⚠️ May smudge on oily eyelids without primer or powder Room for Improvement: • Slight smudging possible on oily lids over time. Use primer or powder to improve longevity! • Gel format may be less convenient than pencil for quick application • Requires tight cap closure after use to prevent drying. Clean brush after use for crisp lines. Pro Tips: 💙 For more vibrant, long-lasting color → Apply gel liner, then set with dark eyeshadow 💙 For a natural look → Use brush to fill in between lashes 💙 For precise winged liner → Apply thin layers with minimal product on brush to reduce mistakes - Hwahae UserDry SkinAtopy SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinNov 24, 2023
About 10 years ago, everyone was using this white gel eyeliner! I bought it for nostalgia's sake, remembering its great staying power and affordable price. After using brush pen liners for a while, I realized they weren't intense enough. Coming back to this pot-type liner, the king of definition, feels like coming home. No questions asked, this product is revolutionary. Everyone should try it! There's not really any downside, but if you use the brush that comes with it and don't clean it often, it can harden and become stiff. It's best to clean it right after use and store it properly. Don't bother buying a separate eyeliner brush. The one that comes with it is high quality, so just use that. It's perfect for creating sharp, precise lines. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinAug 11, 2023
Despite its fame, I stubbornly stuck to pen liners until I finally made the switch. I used to swear by thin, crisp eyeliner, but I realized too late that my face suits the natural lines of gel liners so well! It's easy to touch up and doesn't smudge easily, making it the ultimate eye product. There's a reason why everyone's buying it. Honestly, there's absolutely nothing to complain about. I mean it, 100 times over! They say if you dampen the brush and flatten it before applying, you'll get a clean, precise line. But I'm too lazy for that - I just apply it as is. It works great either way! - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinMar 25, 2023
I can't believe it's been almost 8.9 years since I last bought this, and it's still the best value for money. The quality at this price point is incredible... I really hope they never discontinue it! The built-in brush is a huge plus - no need to buy a separate one, and it's so convenient for storage. Given the low price, I have no complaints about the brush quality either. The color is vibrant, and it applies creamily and smoothly, making it great for beginners who struggle with eyeliner. The staying power is decent, and it's easy to remove with cleanser. The quantity is generous too - you're more likely to toss it because it's dried out than because you've run out! To be honest, I don't have any real complaints about the quality... The value for money is so good that I couldn't find any downsides to this product. If I had to nitpick, maybe the bulky design that sticks out in your makeup pouch? - Hwahae UserDry SkinAtopy SkinSensitive SkinJan 8, 2023
The staying power is unbeatable. It seems like it won't budge no matter what. I was shocked, as I expected it to smudge easily due to its gel formula. With proper amount control, you can achieve anything from a subtle line to a bold, defined one. The brush tends to harden quickly, so it's a bit of a hassle to clean and store it properly after each use. - Hwahae UserDry SkinJan 1, 2023
I bought this because it's so famous! The color stays vibrant for a long time and doesn't easily come off. I usually use brush-pen types that dry out and stop working after a while, but this one... the amount is so generous that I probably won't be able to use it all up even after years! It's easy to apply and great value for money. I'm not sure if it's my lack of skill, but it's difficult to draw thin lines with the built-in brush. Maybe I'll get used to it with practice! - Hwahae UserDry SkinAtopy SkinNov 8, 2022
The gel formula gives intense color payoff and stays put. It defines the eyes so precisely, making it a must-have for full glam looks! The process of dipping the brush, drawing the line, and cleaning the brush can be a bit tedious, but it's fine since I only use it occasionally for full makeup looks. Make sure to clean the brush right after use! Otherwise, it hardens and becomes more of a hassle later. Also, I found that I prefer the brown shade over black because it's still deep in color but gives a softer look. - Hwahae UserDry SkinJul 30, 2022
I didn't realize there was an upgraded version since I've been using the old one. This is actually my second tube of this eyeliner! The best part is how it creates intense, vivid lines with improved color payoff, which I love. The staying power is surprisingly strong too, making it one of my go-to liners. (Even though brush maintenance can be a bit tricky, its popularity speaks for itself, and I keep coming back to it!) It has a slightly creamy, gel-like texture that delivers high pigmentation. Instead of loading up the built-in brush, I find it's best to use just a tiny bit and control the amount for the best results. The creamy consistency allows for smooth, effortless application without any stiffness, which is great! For a cream-type liner, it's surprisingly easy to draw clean lines without smudging, making it a satisfying product that I'm happily using. This isn't really a drawback, more of an ambiguous advantage... In my experience, the brush can sometimes become stiff with use. However, I actually prefer not to clean it because I find the hardened brush shape makes it easier to draw cleaner, sharper lines. I've tried cleaning it, but the brush feels a bit loose and less precise, making it slightly inconvenient to use. So I actually prefer using it in its 'set' state. That said, it might be a bit harsh on the delicate eye area. I use it very gently without applying pressure, so for me, this aspect is actually a plus! Pro tip: Apply a small amount of the eyeliner on the inside of the cap to control the quantity. This makes it easier to use without any clumping. - Hwahae UserDehydrated SkinSensitive SkinJul 15, 2022
Applies smoothly and vividly. The brown shade is sufficiently deep and creates a more atmospheric look, so I recommend brown over black. Some powder-like residue falls under the eyes, requiring careful cleaning. The staying power is somewhat lacking. It tends to smudge easily with tears. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinFeb 7, 2022
It's easy to draw precise lines and the color is vibrant. It really makes your eyes stand out and look more defined. It tends to smudge relatively easily. It's a bit tricky to control the amount of product you use.
