I bought this to try going foundation-free, and I love it! The ingredients are gentle, and it doesn't feel heavy on my skin. The shade leans a bit yellow, so those with cool undertones should apply sparingly. - Hwahae UserNormal SkinFeb 24, 2025
The coverage, adherence, and hydration were all pretty good. However, it seems the shade didn't quite match my complexion. The color is too yellowish, so unless I mix it with sunscreen, I end up looking sallow. It's a bit disappointing. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinJul 15, 2024
As someone with sensitive skin, I always check the ingredients before buying base products. I was pleased to find that both the ingredients and reviews for this BB cream were promising, so I decided to give it a try. I'm happy to report that it didn't cause any blemishes, which is a big plus for me. Among BB creams, this one feels quite hydrating. Also, I noticed almost no darkening of my skin tone throughout the day! As expected with BB creams that have skin-friendly ingredients, the coverage is on the lighter side. It's good enough for evening out your complexion and covering light marks, but it won't conceal spots or darker blemishes, unfortunately. I also found that it doesn't have the best staying power. Lastly, if you have a very fair cool-toned complexion, you might find this a bit too yellow for your liking. For best results, I recommend applying a thin layer using a spatula or puff! - Hwahae UserDry SkinAcne SkinFeb 29, 2024
Great for evening out skin tone. Apply lightly as a substitute for sunscreen. It does have a slight yellow tint. Other than that, no complaints. Give it a try! - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinJul 17, 2023
1. Ingredients I often experience skin reactions after wearing makeup, so I was searching for a gentle base makeup product that I could apply comfortably. This one caught my attention. It's free from ingredients like PEG that enhance adhesion, and instead contains niacinamide and calamine for moisturizing and soothing effects. To ensure maximum gentleness while still providing tone correction, they've used mineral UV filter ingredients typically found in sunscreens. Despite its mild formulation, it does an excellent job at evening out skin tone. It's a great option for those with sensitive skin who find regular makeup too harsh. 2. Adhesion Unlike semi-matte foundations that instantly set, this one feels a bit loose when first applied. However, it adheres naturally to the skin after blending well or patting with a sponge. 3. Hydration It feels incredibly moisturizing right after application. Unlike semi-matte or matte foundations that seem to set and dry immediately, this one maintains a dewy finish. 4. Longevity After setting with powder, it showed impressive staying power, lasting up to 10 hours after morning application. While there was some creasing and lifting, it didn't melt or slide off. * Tone It has a slightly more yellow undertone than expected. Due to the white cast from the mineral UV filters, it can look awkwardly bright if you apply too much. You may need to tone it down with other color makeup products. * Sunscreen Given that you need to apply a small, controlled amount, it's difficult to use this alone for sun protection. I recommend using it alongside another sunscreen. * Blemishes Perhaps because it's a BB cream, wearing it for extended periods can make skin feel dry and pores seem clogged. My skin has become more sensitive lately, and I experienced some breakouts after use. Rather than applying it with a spatula or sponge like a foundation, I find it works better to first apply a moisturizing sunscreen, then use a small amount of this product and spread it thinly with your hands. This makes it easier to control the amount and seems to result in fewer blemishes. It also creates a more natural color. + Additional review after long-term use I can confirm that even after wearing it for long periods, it adheres well, feels light, and doesn't cause blemishes. I'm really enjoying using it. You can apply it with a spatula and then lightly pat it with a sponge, or simply spread it with your hands - it adheres well either way. The color is beautiful and it doesn't seem to darken much over time. Above all, it feels less burdensome on the skin, so I use it frequently. As someone always on the hunt for the perfect brightening moisturizer, I was lucky enough to win this cream while browsing The Hwahae Testers. I must say, it absorbs well. It's a decent option for those blessed with naturally good skin. 1. Color match As someone with a cool undertone between shades 22 and 23, the color didn't work for me. It seemed to bring out too much yellow? From other reviews, it appears those with warm undertones generally had better experiences. I wish they'd diversify their shade range... 2. Dryness This might be challenging to use in winter. While it feels fine initially, as soon as you step out into the wind, your skin starts to flake... If you have dry skin and still want to try this, make sure to layer your skincare well underneath. 3. Low SPF With only SPF 26... Unless you're absolutely in love with this product, I'm not sure it's worth it. There are plenty of similar products out there with much better sun protection. - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinOct 27, 2022
I'm not usually one for heavy makeup, so I typically just apply a brightening moisturizer after my skincare routine. Being someone who finds elaborate routines tedious, I decided to give this a try. After using it for a week, I can say it definitely provides better coverage than a regular brightening moisturizer. The application is smooth, perhaps due to its hydrating nature, which I found quite pleasant. While it doesn't completely conceal my minor acne scars, it does even out my complexion nicely, giving my skin a cleaner, more polished look. I'm not entirely sure if my skin is oily or normal, but while it felt fine initially, I noticed it left my skin feeling a bit dry. It also seemed to settle into my pores somewhat. Another downside is that it only comes in one shade, which is disappointing. I'm not sure if the product images accurately represent the color, but to me, it appeared slightly yellow (it matches the color band around the cream container in the photo). I think more people would be inclined to use it if they released a version with a pinkish undertone. Since I found it a bit drying, I purchased an inexpensive facial oil from another brand and mixed in a couple of drops. I then applied it with a beauty blender, gently patting it onto my skin. This method significantly improved how well it adhered to my skin. I've been using it regularly for my work commute lately! - Hwahae UserDehydrated SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinOct 27, 2022
I don't usually use balm products, so I decided to try this Hwahae event. First off, I love that it's a Papa Recipe product, a brand I can trust for its ingredients. As someone who works from home and rarely wears makeup except for quick neighborhood errands, this product has been a game-changer for my lazy self - just one application and I'm good to go! The absorbs is incredibly smooth and pleasant. I have combination dehydrated skin with an oily T-zone and dry U-zone. Usually, makeup tends to flake on my T-zone during seasonal changes or winter, but not with this. Of course, I've been applying face oil after toner due to the dry weather, which likely contributed to the extra hydration. Still, I was impressed that it didn't flake or pill, which often happens with products that feel a bit stiff when applied. I've used similar textured sunblocks before, but they often felt heavy due to their oily texture. This one, however, adheres lightly to the skin even with a small amount, potentially giving a beautiful finish for those with good skin texture. Despite my uneven skin texture, I didn't experience much pilling. With its built-in UV protection, it's perfect for short outings or achieving a natural, bare-faced look. Well... Like other sunblocks I've tried before, and even Papa Recipe's balm, this doesn't quite give me the complexion boost I'm looking for. While it adheres well, it doesn't necessarily brighten my skin. Instead, it has a yellowish tint that seems to intensify as it sets. My skin isn't particularly tan, but it's not light either - just your average Asian skin tone. The balm itself has a strong yellow undertone, which I feel doesn't do much to brighten my complexion. I wish it had more of a pink tint to give a more radiant look. Also, the SPF is only 26, which isn't very high. While it provides decent skin coverage, I don't feel confident enough in its UV protection to expose my face to direct sunlight. I ended up only using it for quick trips near home, always with a hat on! Due to my extremely dehydrated skin, when I didn't use face oil, even this product left my face feeling dry and accentuated dead skin cells. For those with combination dehydrated skin like mine, if you find your base skincare lacking in hydration, try mixing this product with a hydrating serum and a bit of sunscreen. I often do this with foundation in winter, and it greatly improves absorbs, increases hydration, and creates a more natural, bare-faced look while evening out the skin tone. - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinOct 27, 2022
I always check the ingredients when applying for Hwahae, and I'm glad I could try products with good ingredients through the Hwahae Testers. Usually, I only apply sunscreen or a combination of sunscreen & brightening moisturizer, so this was perfect for a light application before going out. Layering it thinly resulted in a seamless, lightweight adherence without any patchiness. While it doesn't provide full coverage, it gives a natural look with some degree of coverage. (I have dry skin with some dark spots around my eyes, visible pores in the T-zone, and occasional blemishes, though I didn't have any at the time of use.) As I have dry and super sensitive skin, products that don't suit me can cause itching or redness, but this one worked well without any issues. (This may vary for individuals, so I recommend patch testing before use if you're interested.) It feels natural, like my own skin. I personally don't like scented products, so I was pleased that this seemed fragrance-free. It applies smoothly with a matte-like finish, leaving a soft, powdery feel and minimal transfer to masks. (This may vary depending on individual skin condition and application method.) I prefer products that give a bright, radiant look, but this one was similar to my natural complexion rather than brightening, which was a bit disappointing. The yellowish tint was also not ideal for me. Additionally, I wish it had a higher SPF rating. When applying the product, I recommend using a sponge to pat on very small amounts in thin layers rather than using your hands. This method helps the product adhere better to the skin. I found using a tool for application works better than applying with fingers. - Hwahae UserDry SkinSep 12, 2022
The lightweight formula absorbs well. I don't usually like thick textures, but this product applies easily like an emulsion. It's also great for on-the-go use. The tube design with a pointed tip makes it convenient to apply anywhere. For cool-toned skin, it's too yellow. I usually prefer pink-toned foundations, but this product has a strong yellow undertone that makes my face look sallow. It might be too dry for colder seasons. As the weather has cooled down during my trial, it feels drier than expected. Those with dry skin might experience some deep dryness.
