It doesn't cause blemishes even on acne-prone skin, absorbs well, and naturally evens out the skin tone It can emphasize dead skin cells, so I recommend exfoliating and thoroughly hydrating before application. It doesn't cover blemishes very well Since the SPF is low, I recommend applying this after thoroughly hydrating your skin and putting on sunscreen - Hwahae UserCombination SkinJan 16, 2023
As someone with dry skin, I found this balm slightly moisturizing. It provides a nice brightening effect without any grayish tint, and the color is light and radiant. It's perfect for quick application before stepping out. It covers redness and blemishes well, and even tones down red areas. The texture absorbs well and adheres to the skin nicely. It did emphasize dead skin cells a bit. I wish it was more hydrating - it gets a bit dry in the afternoon. The SPF 25 is a bit disappointing. I'd love to see a version with SPF 50 or higher! Exfoliating is a must. Be sure to do it before applying this. A good skincare routine is essential to prevent dryness. Spritz some hydrating mist in the afternoon to combat dryness. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinOct 27, 2022
I thought it would feel like a brightening moisturizer with SPF, but it's more like foundation mixed with a bit of sunscreen? It definitely evens out the skin tone, and surprisingly, the coverage is pretty decent too. While not extreme, it does a good job of concealing mild redness and blemishes, which is great! The scent is typical of cosmetics (not particularly pleasant) - kind of like foundation? But it's not overpowering and you'd have to put your nose right up to it to smell it, so that's fine. It's nice that it has some sun protection, even if it's not super strong. When applied thinly, it looks quite natural. It tends to pill, so you need to apply it carefully. You can see the pilling even when applying it on the back of your hand. Personally, I prefer products that give my face a bright, lively look (not pink-toned), but this one is too yellow-toned for me. It might work well for those with warm undertones though. Right after application, it looks beautiful, but over time it breaks down and emphasizes dead skin cells. I have combination dehydrated skin, and this felt a bit drying. Sure, a good skincare routine beforehand would help, but on busy mornings when there's no time for elaborate prep, I'd rather use my hydrating sunscreen and cushion compact. Even with powder, it transfers onto masks a lot - more than regular foundation, which is disappointing. Reading other reviews, it seems the sun protection is weak too, so having to apply both sunscreen and this seems like overkill. I think I'm better off with just a hydrating sunscreen or my usual foundation. Oh, and I later found out it's not good for oily skin either... sigh. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinOct 27, 2022
The adherence is excellent! It sticks to the skin perfectly. I loved that it's almost fragrance-free! It has a natural color payoff and expression. However, since it's not a foundation, you shouldn't expect too much coverage. I think it's a product that stays true to the basics. As much as it adheres well, it's quite matte. Those with dry skin will need to apply a very thorough base. If you go out in winter without proper skincare... oh, I don't even want to imagine. In my case, it was fine on my face, but when I applied it to my hands, it highlighted dead skin cells... haha. While it does give a natural color to the skin, it seems slightly light for my skin tone, which is about #23 as I've gotten a bit tanned recently! - Hwahae UserDry SkinAtopy SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinOct 27, 2022
Skin type: Dry, sensitive, 21-22 shade with deep undertone Scent: Barely noticeable. I don't like strong cosmetic smells or floral scents, but this didn't bother me when applying. Texture/Application: Applies smoothly like skincare when spread lightly. Finishes with a matte feel, and goes on evenly and thinly. Color: Just right for evening out skin tone and complexion. It won't cover blemishes, but it does a good job of evening out your complexion. However, be careful with the amount - it can brighten your skin dramatically if you apply too much, so watch out for that 'mask-like' effect. Transfer: Using a KF94 mask as a reference, it barely transferred except for the nose bridge area. However, this may vary depending on your skincare routine. Overall: Perfect for those 'foundation-free' days when you don't want to go bare-faced but can't be bothered with a full face of makeup. Just spread it on quickly and you're good to go! Adherence: Don't expect the same level of adherence and longevity as a BB cream or foundation... It can emphasize dead skin cells a bit, and tends to bunch up around the eyes and sides of the nose, so apply sparingly and carefully. Longevity: After about 3-4 hours, it starts to bunch up slightly on the forehead and cheeks. For long days out, I'd recommend using a foundation instead. SPF: On the lower side... but it's adequate for mostly indoor use, except during summer. However, sunscreen is a must for outdoor activities or on days with strong UV. That said, rather than applying this and sunscreen separately, it might be easier to just use a tinted sunscreen. Perfect for quick outings when you want to skip foundation! - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinOct 27, 2022
- The ingredients seem great! - It's moisturizing and absorbs well, probably due to the skincare ingredients. - My skin feels comfortable after application. It's like I'm not wearing anything, just as if I've applied a skincare product. It doesn't feel heavy at all, just comfortable! - While the coverage isn't extraordinary, it's not bad either! It covers redness to some extent and conceals most blemishes except for severe ones. For me, it's just right (I have quite a bit of redness, acne scars, and blemishes!). - No blemishes appeared during use! Not a single one! - The staying power is quite good, except for areas where it rubs off. When I got home, it was still intact on my forehead, but it had disappeared from my nose, cheeks, and chin. I think it wears off a lot when putting on and taking off the mask. The staying power is fine if there's no contact! (I'm thinking of buying it again when we no longer need to wear masks...) - It comes off too easily on masks. After wearing a mask once, it's like I never applied anything. It's hard to explain, but it comes off in a really messy way. If it all came off cleanly, that would be one thing, but it wears off in an unsightly manner. The coverage isn't bad, but when it comes off, it looks terrible. - Also, because it contains skincare ingredients, if you go light on your base skincare, it gets too dry and really emphasizes pores and dead skin cells. If you apply a thorough base, the dead skin isn't as noticeable, but it comes off easily. - It causes eye irritation. Even though the ingredients are good, I'm particularly sensitive to eye irritation, and it was really severe for me. I've tried applying it with my hands and with a puff, with light skincare and with thorough skincare. The best method is: Apply thorough skincare, then use a puff to apply the product, wait until it's fully absorbed, and then put on a mask. This reduces transfer and wear-off! (But realistically, who has time for this in modern life? I certainly don't. I usually apply and rush out the door.) So I'm planning to buy and try it again when we no longer need to wear masks! - Hwahae UserDehydrated SkinAtopy SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinOct 26, 2022
First off, I'm really impressed with how gentle the ingredients are! As someone with atopic and acne-prone skin, I prioritize ingredients over coverage when choosing base products, and this one really hits the mark. What's more, since we're always wearing masks these days, it's crucial that the base doesn't transfer. I applied a light layer of skincare, then used a spatula to spread a thin layer of the product, followed by patting it in with a sponge - and there was absolutely no transfer! Even without setting powder, it left my skin with a nice, matte finish. I've been using it daily as a sunscreen alternative and I'm loving it! On the downside, if you're not thorough with your skincare routine, it might cling to your skin a bit. Those with dry skin might find it a tad drying. Also, when wearing a mask for extended periods, it might emphasize dead skin cells and make your makeup look a bit patchy. It might be a bit of extra effort, but using a spatula to apply a thin layer really gives a beautiful skin finish! The spatula and sponge combo can even create a foundation-like effect for those with relatively clear skin. - Hwahae UserOily SkinAtopy SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinOct 25, 2022
The best thing about this product is the color! My skin tends to have a lot of redness, so I can never use pink-based products. However, Papa Recipe's Blemish Balm has absolutely no pink undertones, which I love! It gives me a clear complexion without looking like I'm wearing makeup - would you say it makes me look more fresh-faced? Plus, it feels lightweight and doesn't seem to cause any blemishes! It's best not to expect much in terms of coverage, and it does wear off quite quickly, which is a downside. It also transfers onto masks. If your skin isn't in great condition, it tends to emphasize dead skin cells and texture issues, unfortunately. I find that applying it with your hands works best. Other tools seem to absorb too much of the product, leaving you feeling like hardly any has been applied to your face. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinOct 25, 2022
♧ Skin Type: Light with deep undertone / Oily skin / Slight tendency for dead skin cells to appear ♧ Preferred Base Type: * Ivory-toned yellow base * Fluid, moisturizing essence-type base ♧ Papa Recipe Blemish Balm Characteristics: * Light, sheer application that's close to a moisturizing formula * Bright ivory color with a yellow base ♧ Base Application Steps: Emulsion - Essence-type sunscreen - Papa Recipe Blemish Balm - Powder -> Feeling after application: The moisturizing sensation felt during the hand swatch test wasn't as noticeable on the face -> When applied with fingers: Due to its moisturizing nature, it leaves slight finger marks, requiring time to blend in -> When applied with a puff: The puff absorbs just the right amount of oil and moisture, allowing for even application on the skin -> When adding an oil-type essence after emulsion: Definitely enhances the glow, creating a beautiful skin appearance with long-lasting hydration. This product's performance greatly depends on your skincare routine -> Mask test: Minimal transfer even in areas where the mask fits snugly -> After exercising with mask on: Again, minimal transfer. It stayed put without running with sweat, though there was a slight feeling of dead skin cells becoming noticeable ♧ Overall: Lightweight application with good adherence, making it suitable as a base in these mask-wearing times Unfortunately, it doesn't adhere well to areas where skin condition is poor, emphasizing dead skin cells, which is disappointing Applying with a puff resulted in much better adherence. In winter, combining it with oil or essence brings out a beautiful glow and enhances skin appearance - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinOct 25, 2022
< Hwahae Event Review (Used for 20-25 days. Final review on the 27th) > <Skin Type> Oily (normal) / Combination dehydrated (very) / Redness and acne / Shade 23. < Papa Recipe Blemish Balm - SPF 26 PA++ > Overall: Feels like a low SPF sunscreen mixed with concealer. (For light makeup, apply with hands like sunscreen!!!) - The Blemish Balm's incredibly moisturizing application was excellent. Definitely best to apply a small amount all over the face, relying on hand temperature to blend by tapping fingers, resulting in the most natural look. It creates a slightly dewy, smooth semi-matte finish, like the outer surface of an orange peel. (The ingredients include natural oils, which are absolutely gentle on the skin - loved that.) Therefore, it's perfect for light, natural makeup when going to the local store or gym, rather than full makeup. Great to use with a hydrating sunscreen or as an alternative. - There wasn't any particular scent that I noticed. The texture was slightly runny and creamy, like a mix of sunscreen and BB cream with a bit of viscosity. True to being a blemish balm, it felt closest to a concealer. - There was some transfer to masks, as expected, but it didn't break down excessively. < Drawbacks > As mentioned earlier, applying it with hands like sunscreen resulted in the most natural and pretty expression. The reason is that when using full makeup tools, even after applying a solid base and letting it dry before applying the balm, over time, skin flakes became very noticeable, making the skin look visibly white, dry, and messy to the naked eye. - Sponges absorbed the balm's oil components, initially showing a matte, photoshopped blurred face effect, but soon after, it cracked and looked messy. - Surprisingly, using a spatula to build thin layers quickly revealed adhering pores, making the skin look extremely untidy. - When applying to the whole face, acne scars were only toned down, not completely covered, requiring additional spot concealing with a cotton swab, which was inconvenient. I wish the SPF was higher. 26 is too low. My face definitely hurts in the sun. Nowadays, I'm mixing it with a hydrating sunscreen. While the formula is moisturizing, I wish it had more hydration. (Is this unavoidable due to its blemish-covering properties?) Regardless, it felt too dry afterwards, which was uncomfortable. < Pro Tips > - Think of it as light makeup, apply a small amount with just your hands like sunscreen. (No tools needed.) - After a solid base of toner, skin, and light moisturizer or oil, be sure to mix it with a runny, hydrating sunscreen rather than a regular one!
