I bought this after seeing it trending on YouTube, and it was incredibly gentle on my skin. It was so slippery that I couldn't tell if I had washed it all off. There was no real feeling of cleansing. Sadly, it also caused quite a few small blemishes to appear. - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinApr 25, 2021
I'm on my third tube of this. It's genuinely gentle and doesn't strip my skin's hydration while still providing excellent cleansing effectiveness. I'd like to call this a 'phlegm-like' texture. When you first squeeze it out and add water, it doesn't mix well and just slips around on its own. I ended up wasting half the amount I used. With other foam cleansers, I usually squeeze some onto my hand, add a bit of water to create foam, and then apply it to my face. But with this product, I have to rub it directly on my face and then add water with my hands to create the foam there. - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinApr 29, 2020
Skin type: Oily, prone to whiteheads & blackheads, more milia than inflammatory acne I discovered this brand while watching YouTube videos when my skin was in terrible condition. I bought it along with the AHA toner Kale-lalu-yAHA from the same brand, and this review is based on using up the entire bottle. Although I used it back in January 2019, I'm finally writing this review after using the Hwahae app for a while, thinking I should contribute my thoughts too. ‼️Purchase date: December 30, 2018‼️ ‼️Actual usage period: From January 2019‼️ First off, I liked that it didn't leave my skin feeling overly squeaky clean. I was using Perfect Whip at the time, and people said that feeling too squeaky clean wasn't good, so I remember being satisfied with this aspect. The scent was a mild, inoffensive green tea fragrance. While I wouldn't say it's great, it's not unpleasant either. The packaging is pretty. I love its simplicity - it's right up my alley. #Hydration: While many people say it's moisturizing and hydrating, for some reason, my face felt tight after washing with this cleanser. I have oily skin and never experienced tightness with any product except Perfect Whip. Usually, I can go about 5 minutes after washing without applying anything and not feel tight, but strangely, with this one, my skin felt very tight if I didn't apply toner immediately after cleansing. #Texture: It's way too slippery... Half of it ends up wasted because it's so slick. The moment you try to lather it in your hands, instead of foaming up, half of it escapes your palms in clumps. As a result, you either end up using too much or have to carefully cup your hands while lathering to keep it from slipping away. #Price: It wasn't cheap to begin with, but considering half of it goes to waste... #Cleansing power: Being low pH, it's understandably not very strong in terms of cleansing. This might also be partly my fault. Despite having oily skin, I used this cleanser both morning and night (as a second cleanser in the evening). As a result, it seems like it wasn't removing all the impurities, and I noticed an increase in milia and whiteheads. I continued using it with some doubts, but by the time I had almost finished the bottle, I had so many milia that I stopped using it with about 2% left. - Hwahae UserNormal SkinSensitive SkinApr 13, 2020
- The delivery was delayed for some reason. I contacted Hwahae but didn't receive a response, and the package arrived a few days late. I'm leaving this review after 2 weeks of use for The Hwahae Testers. 💓 Skin type: Combination dry, oily T-zone + Sensitive (late 20s) Naturally smooth skin, but with enlarged pores on the nose 💓 Recommended for: Dry + Sensitive skin 💓 Experience: 1. Gentle and lightweight It doesn't cause tightness and feels light. As someone who always uses cleansing oil, this product is a must-have. Perfect for the second cleanse. Ideal for my morning routine with an oily T-zone. It has that gentle, low pH feel. It seems to match my skin's pH perfectly, causing almost no irritation. Even with prolonged, gentle massaging, there was minimal irritation (I often experience redness after cleansing due to my sensitive skin. I can't use cotton pads with cleansing water or toner as it stings). 2. Hydrating (moisture) It's moisturizing even after cleansing(?) In the first week, I thought it was just gentle, really gentle, but by the second week, it felt like I was back in high school, experiencing that morning cleanse hydration. 3. Sophisticated packaging I usually prefer natural products, but while the product quality is often good, the packaging can be disappointing... But! This Krave Beauty product has such luxurious packaging... 💕 I love that it looks beautiful on my vanity & in my bathroom. 4. Overall quality After using it, I learned it's made by YouTuber Liah Yoo's company. It's clear they have a deep understanding of skincare, and based on my experience, I trust they can create great products for problematic skin. I'd love to try their other lines besides cleansers. 💓 Star rating: ⛥⛥⛥⛥⛥ Highly recommended! This is a product I want to spread the word about. 1. Slightly lacking in cleansing power, not much foam As someone who always does a double cleanse, it's not an issue for me, and as a person with sensitive skin, I actually prefer it this way. However, those who rely on a single cleanse might find the cleansing power a bit lacking. It produces less foam and feels less satisfying compared to a rich foam cleanser that rinses off quickly. 2. Taste and scent(??) I don't intentionally taste it, but while washing, it tastes somewhat bitter... ㅋㅋㅋ It has a slightly bitter taste. But I tell myself that good things for the body are often bitter, so I'm still using it well. The scent is a bit like seaweed? Or konjac? It has a similar smell and feels slippery like seaweed. At first, I thought it was a bit unusual, but I got used to it over time. As I usually prefer natural products like Si**ool, it wasn't a major issue. These are just minor points if I had to find something to critique^^ Use a cleansing oil, cleansing wipe, or cleansing water for a light first cleanse, then follow up with Krave Beauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser for your second cleanse! It's also perfect as a morning cleanser! - Hwahae UserNormal SkinAcne SkinApr 13, 2020
Product Features: The color is somewhere between yellow and green, and the green tea scent isn't very noticeable. You can only smell it a bit when you work up a lather with your hands. The texture of the product is quite thick and doesn't foam up much! After washing, there's almost no squeaky-clean feeling, so while your skin won't feel dry, I wouldn't recommend it to those who prefer a more thorough cleanse! I used it as a final step in my double cleansing routine or for morning cleansing. Blemishes: Many reviewers mentioned breakouts, but I didn't have any issues! For a green tea cleanser, it's disappointing that the green tea scent isn't very strong! Also, it leaves a slightly slippery feeling, so you might wonder if you've rinsed it off properly. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinApr 13, 2020
Here's my review as one of The Hwahae Testers: I felt great when I first received this product. The eco-friendly approach really resonated with me. The packaging kindly explained what the product was all about, so I used it with a good understanding. First off, it definitely doesn't foam up. Because of this, it seemed more suitable for morning cleansing rather than evening. After use, my face felt slightly slippery, as if coated, but once I patted it dry with a towel, it felt nicely hydrated. Thanks to its gentle ingredients, I didn't experience any blemishes. As someone who believes a good cleanser should create rich foam and leave skin feeling squeaky clean, it took me a while to adjust. Being a gel, it was quite slippery and sometimes slid off my hands. While I appreciate the gentle ingredients and eco-friendly nature of the product, the overall experience didn't quite suit me, so I probably won't purchase it. It might be a good fit for those with super sensitive skin or those looking for cleansers with gentle ingredients. - Hwahae UserDry SkinAtopy SkinSensitive SkinApr 12, 2020
As a member of The Hwahae Testers, I'd like to share my thoughts. In conclusion, while this is a decent foam cleanser, I'd recommend considering it if you're new to low pH cleansers or if you haven't been focusing on skin barrier care in your skincare routine. I'll explain why in detail. After using this product for about ten days, I've realized that its effectiveness depends on your current skin condition and the types of skincare products you use alongside it. I've been using low pH foam cleansers for over three years, with significant improvements. Of course, I didn't just change my cleanser; I also shifted my focus to products with good ingredients and hydration, prioritizing skin barrier health. This isn't unique to me - it seems to be a general trend, which explains the increasing number of products emphasizing skin barrier care. Among the various foam cleansers I've tried, this Matcha Hydrating Cleanser (I'll just call it "Matcha" from now on) is quite challenging to use. It's excellent in terms of hydration and being gentle on the skin, but its cleansing power is quite weak. I'll discuss this further in the cons section, although the marketing emphasizes it as a positive feature. Low pH cleansers often highlight skin barrier protection in their marketing. They argue that while strong cleansing power might make your skin feel squeaky clean immediately, it actually weakens the skin barrier over time. Hence, gentler cleansing is recommended, leaving your skin feeling slightly slippery after washing. This product makes similar claims, which I somewhat agree with. However, the repeated emphasis on the packaging makes me think the developers are very conscious of its weak cleansing power. Everyone's skin is different, and it's not always easy to categorize it as simply dry, oily, or sensitive. My own skin can be sensitive and prone to redness, sometimes oily with blemishes, and at other times feeling dry and tight regardless of what I apply. This is all due to a compromised skin barrier. After trying various approaches, I've learned: 1. Avoid functional cosmetics (whitening, anti-wrinkle, herbal formulas, etc.) 2. While checking ingredients is important, the distinction between products for dry or oily skin is often meaningless. Focus on products that emphasize hydration. 3. Limit your skincare routine to a maximum of 3 products at a time. 2 or fewer is even better. 4. Always use a low pH foam cleanser. The reason for using a low pH cleanser is as follows: People who think they have oily skin often obsess over achieving a squeaky clean feeling and use lightweight products. However, this can actually increase oil production. You might have a lot of oil on your face but still feel dry - this is what many people mistake for combination dehydrated skin. I've realized that combination dehydrated skin is more of a temporary skin condition rather than a skin type. Ironically, leaving some of your natural oils and focusing on hydration can actually reduce oil production. You might have seen reviews like, "I have very oily skin and was worried about using this oily product, but it actually improved my skin condition." We often think such products must be amazing, but when we try them ourselves, we might not see the same results. The principle behind this is that someone who believed they had oily skin and was obsessed with that squeaky clean feeling accidentally achieved a good oil-moisture balance by using a more hydrating product. If you continue to focus on oil removal thinking you have oily skin, you might maintain your skin condition for a while, but eventually, your skin barrier will break down, leading to sensitive skin. This is why you might suddenly find that your usual skincare products don't work anymore, or why you might like a product at first but then find it unsatisfactory halfway through. You end up buying new products even though you haven't finished your old ones, but it's hard to find something that truly works. Products claiming to be for sensitive skin or barrier repair might only provide temporary relief. This was my experience. For the same reason, it's better to start with a natural, not overly cleansed state and build up your skincare routine from there. The right products for you are those that don't cause significant changes in your skin condition over the course of a day. That's why it's important to start with a low pH cleanser. I believe this product was designed with this intention, and I agree with this approach. In this respect, this product serves its purpose well. However, this product is best suited for those whose skin condition has already improved to a certain degree. Therefore, I don't think it's ideal for beginners. Most people are obsessed with removing sebum. When cleansing, they want their skin to feel smooth, and if they feel anything on their skin, they become uneasy. They believe that leaving even a little sebum will lead to blackheads, clogged pores, blemishes, and a dull complexion. Even those who think they have dry skin often feel they have some sebum, leading them to wonder if they have combination skin. For skin in this state, this product doesn't effectively dissolve sebum. As a result, you might feel the need to cleanse again, which can be quite frustrating. If you haven't prepared your skincare routine to focus on barrier repair, sebum will likely reappear quickly. Since this cleanser can't remove it effectively, you might end up feeling that this foam cleanser isn't very good. If you can achieve an optimal balance, this is a good foam cleanser. The key is that your skin should not be in a state of excessive sebum production. If you've already achieved optimal skin condition, this cleanser is excellent for maintaining and improving it without disrupting the balance. However, if you haven't reached that point, it could be the worst choice. For beginners, I recommend the Innisfree Blueberry Foam Cleanser or the Dokdo Foam Cleanser. The Etude Soon Jung line is also good, but you might find its cleansing power weak. The Safe Me Relief Foam Cleanser is popular too, but its cleansing power is slightly weaker than the ones I mentioned earlier. If you're new to low pH cleansers and find this one surprising, I recommend trying the two I mentioned, with Dokdo being my top recommendation. You need to start with a cleanser that dissolves sebum while maintaining oil-moisture balance to adapt gradually. For your skincare routine, I recommend products that are less likely to clog pores. I used to alternate between Real Barrier cream and Dokdo emulsion, but during the testing period with the Matcha foam cleanser, I found that Dokdo emulsion alone was sufficient for hydration (applied twice, letting it absorb once and then layering again). Real Barrier tends to clog pores a bit. When I used the Dokdo cleanser, it was fine for my skin, but with the Matcha cleanser, even I experienced some clogging. Switching to just the emulsion helped balance things out. If you're uncomfortable using just one cream or emulsion and want deeper hydration, consider using a toner or ampoule. I recommend the AHA/BHA Clarifying Toner for exfoliation and maintaining oil-moisture balance. I'm fine with just the emulsion, but I use this when I want extra hydration. As for ampoules, you can choose based on your skin condition, but for most people who aren't extremely dry or oily, the above two should be sufficient. The emulsion's thin texture allows you to adjust the amount based on your needs - apply thinly if you're too oily, or layer it up to three times if you're very dry. If you still feel you need an ampoule, I recommend a Cica-full ampoule for oil-free deep hydration. After cleansing, don't dry your face with a towel. Apply your skincare products while your skin is still damp. If you're uncomfortable with this, you can wipe your face with a cotton pad soaked in toner, then apply your products while the skin is still moist. This helps maintain hydration. When using a towel after washing, just gently pat from below your chin. Rubbing your face with a towel dries out the skin, forcing you to rely solely on products for hydration, which can lead to that combination dehydrated skin feeling. Give it a try, even if it feels strange at first. Once you've recovered to a smooth, hydrated skin state without excessive sebum production, try switching to the Matcha foam cleanser. You might find that what initially seemed terrible is actually quite good. I almost criticized it after using it for just three days, but after adjusting my routine, I realized it was actually quite nice. Since I've written such a long review, I won't include photos. I seem to have accidentally thrown away the packaging already. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinApr 11, 2020
The Hwahae Testers review: Skin type: Combination dehydrated + Complex + Deep dryness + Blemishes + Redness During seasonal changes, my skin easily becomes dry. Even when using moisturizing cleansers, I still get rough, flaky skin. That's why I look for gentle, hydrating products that won't irritate my super sensitive skin. I've tried various low pH cleansers, but none are as frequently reached for as this Hemp Seed Foam Cleanser! Texture: It's much runnier than expected - like a thin mucus texture! Known for its pleasant feel, it's incredibly slippery but doesn't actually drip. When applied to the skin, it doesn't slide off but rolls on smoothly. The gel-like consistency makes it perfect for daily use without being too liquid or overwhelming. The low pH seems to suit my skin well, as I only use low pH foam cleansers. After-use review: 1. Gentle: It feels truly mild! Even with my extremely sensitive skin prone to red blemishes, this cleanser worked gently without irritation. The green tea scent wasn't unpleasant to me either. 2. Rich lather: It produces abundant foam with minimal rubbing, allowing for a thorough yet gentle cleanse. 3. Soothing effect: My skin was recently irritated from mask-wearing, but this cleanser calmed it down by 80%! I use it as a second cleanse after Bioderma. It might be too gentle for a first cleanse, but it's perfect for morning routines. I've never broken out from using this! 4. Hydration: The hydration is exceptional - 5 stars! My skin is extremely dry, especially during seasonal changes, but even without immediately applying emulsion after cleansing, it doesn't feel tight. Among the various low pH foams I've used, this one left my skin feeling the least tight! While it doesn't moisturize, it provides maximum hydration, which I highly appreciate. About Hemp Seed (Additional info): Hemp seed, a superfood created by removing the shell of hemp seeds, is mentioned in Donguibogam for its anti-inflammatory properties. It also has moisture-attracting qualities, deeply hydrating the skin. This is great for maintaining skin hydration during seasonal changes! Witch hazel, known as a magical plant, has been used by Native Americans for skin protection and soothing. It helps balance oil and moisture while providing hydration for healthy skin. I think this product is brilliant, containing extracts from hemp seed (one of the world's six super grains) and the magical witch hazel plant. I particularly like that this Hemp Seed Cleanser uses grain and plant extracts to cleanse the skin gently without irritation. In short, it's a mild and kind cleansing foam made with naturally-derived ingredients! 1. Texture: First-time users might find the mucus-like texture strange or unfamiliar! You might worry it won't cleanse well due to its slipperiness, but that's not the case. Personally, I don't like my skin to feel squeaky clean after washing, so I liked it! 2. Price vs. Quantity: The downside might be the price compared to the amount you get. With so many large-volume cleansing foams on the market these days, it seems even more noticeable. 3. Fragrance: The green tea scent isn't particularly familiar or pleasant! As someone who prefers unscented products, I found this slightly disappointing. However, you do get used to it with continued use! It's perfect for morning cleansing, and when your skin is feeling sensitive, you can use it gently. It lathers well and allows for a clean wash without causing any skin blemishes! - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinApr 11, 2020
My apologies for the delayed Hwahae Testers review. First off, I absolutely loved the eco-friendly packaging! As someone who despises excessive packaging, I was in a great mood from the moment I opened it. The texture is like a fluffy sweet and sour sauce - imagine a sauce with lots of cornstarch! And the scent was so natural and fresh. The best part? After cleansing, my skin usually feels stripped of moisture, but with this product, it keeps hydration locked in until I apply my emulsion. It's so moisturizing! Oh, and my sister, who always has redness and blemishes on her cheeks and chin, has seen a calming effect since using this. From the nature-friendly packaging to its effectiveness - it's all good! The only downside is that it doesn't lather as much as some might expect. However, if you squeeze out a pea-sized amount onto a pore brush and roll it, you'll get a rich lather. Also, it might feel a bit slippery, as if you haven't rinsed enough, but that's likely due to how well it retains moisture! A pore brush is a must-have! - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinApr 11, 2020
This review is written as a member of The Hwahae Testers. I've been using DTBRNS for a few years now, after a friend recommended it when I suddenly developed milia-like blemishes. Having used it for years, I can make a comparison: Compared to Dr. B, this cleanser seems to cause less deep dryness. I usually apply INSPR SD serum after cleansing, and with Dr. B, I'd feel a slight tightness right after washing. However, with the Matcha Hemp Cleanser, there's less tightness even after using the SD serum, and on days when I'm too lazy to apply serum, my skin still feels fine. Also, on weekend mornings when I sleep in, my face tends to get quite oily. But after using the Matcha Hemp Cleanser, I've noticed less oiliness even after oversleeping. I'll keep an eye on this over the next weekend too. I've been using this as my second cleanser in my evening routine. You can see little bits of what I assume are matcha or hemp scattered throughout. They're not abrasive enough to irritate the skin, so it gives a gentle scrub-like feeling. If you don't like or aren't used to a slippery feeling left on your skin, you should definitely try a sample before purchasing the full-size product. In my case, I've been a long-time user of Dr. B because I dislike the slippery feeling of regular body washes. After using this for about two weeks, I appreciated the reduced skin tightness, but I stopped using it for morning cleansing because of the slippery sensation it left behind... It has a gel-jam-like texture, but when you try to lather it up, some bits seem to escape and wash away... They don't seem to mix well with water. I think using about half a fingertip's worth is plenty for each use.
