I'm shade 21. Even though this product is shade 2, it's slightly brighter, which worked well for me. Shade 1 might be better for those with really, really fair skin. When applied, it brightens the complexion and covers pores nicely. I've been using gentler products with less coverage, so this was a pleasant change! (((My personal rating))) Pore coverage: Above average. Complexion enhancement: Above average. Hydration: Slightly below average. Blemish coverage: Average. ---After using for another day: I lightened my skincare routine a bit, which helped with the pilling issue, but it still feels a bit dry, unfortunately. It's not very hydrating. It's not exactly drying, but it does pill... Think of it as semi-matte. Even though we're still in mask times, outdoor mask mandates have been lifted, and I often take mine off at work when no one's around. Despite not wearing a mask for long periods, it still pills quickly... This might be better suited for combination to oily skin types rather than dry skin. As I'm getting older, I feel like I'm moving away from combination skin... - Hwahae UserDry SkinJan 8, 2022
Even though I have very dry skin, this didn't make it excessively dry. Being an essence cushion, it felt quite moisturizing and had a nice hydrating effect. Hydration: It felt moisturizing at first, but as time passed, the makeup started to separate on my skin. It's not that I felt dry, but more like my skin was screaming 'I'm parched!' and the product just sat on top. Longevity: Well... it's not good at all. The staying power is beyond words. Color: Natural beige, really? I usually use shade 21, but this initially goes on with a whitish cast. So I have to apply it very thinly in layers. Coverage: I didn't expect much, but yeah... it is an essence cushion after all. It might work better as a touch-up product... - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAtopy SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinMay 22, 2021
It's bright... feels as light as shade 21. I had to say goodbye after using it just twice... Thankfully, I bought it on sale, so I felt a bit less regretful. First off, the shade is way too light, and perhaps because of that, the coverage isn't great either. For me, it didn't adhere well to my skin. Anyone could tell I had slathered something white on my face... Even my husband asked what I'd put on my face, looking concerned. The puff is nice though. I've switched it out with the puff in my usual compact. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinApr 16, 2021
I was pleased to see that it comes in a wide range of shades, including shade 3, which is more than the usual 1 and 2 that are trending these days. First off, it applies well, but it seems to be weak against moisture and sweat. It completely comes off when wearing a mask. It doesn't seem suitable for these times when masks have become a part of our daily lives. - Hwahae UserDry SkinAcne SkinApr 9, 2021
The case is pretty? Nope. I'll never buy this again. I got it during a special sale event, but I wish I had chosen something else instead. 1. The scent is absolutely terrible. After using it, I felt so nauseous it was unbearable. 2. The adherence is awful too. No matter how much I pat it in, it just doesn't stick. It obviously transfers onto masks. I bought it after watching a YouTube review, but it was a total waste. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAtopy SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinSep 18, 2020
* (The Hwahae Testers review) *My skin has multiple blemishes on the chin, combination dehydrated skin, and I follow a minimal skincare routine. When products don't suit me, I tend to get blemishes on my forehead* Usually, when I check the Hwahae ingredients for base products like cushions and foundations, I find about 5 or more allergens and cautionary ingredients combined. Especially for foreign products, I know they often contain even more cautionary ingredients than Korean ones. However, this Skinfood product only has 3! While it's not completely free of them, I decided to try it without scrutinizing the ingredients this time! Fortunately, it didn't cause any blemishes or skin irritation for me! I don't usually get blemishes on my forehead, but sometimes when a product doesn't suit me, my forehead reacts. But with the Skinfood cushion, my forehead was fine! Pore coverage seems to be medium to high! In the photo, I'm not wearing powder (using powder foundation would probably cover pores well!), no pore primer, minimal skincare, and no exfoliation. You can still see traces of pores in bright light. But considering my large pores and minimal skincare, I can't help but be satisfied with this level of coverage! It adheres well to the skin! The cushion puff helps the product stick to the skin nicely! However...!? You need a good oil and moisture balance! Rather than skin that's just full of moisture, it seems to adhere better when there's a bit of oil on the surface! The cushion sponge felt a bit firm! It applies thinly and evenly on the skin! You can build it up as much as you want! While it definitely adheres well, no matter how much you press or gently pat it on, if your skin has uncontrolled sebum, it inevitably mixes with the makeup. Unless it's the Cha* Le** cushion, skin with minimal skincare will show sebum... However, this seems to be an unavoidable issue with many cushions...!? Coverage increases as you apply more, but it can look cakey with each layer. It might be good for those without texture to use the cushion alone. If you have a lot of texture like me, you might need to apply a thin layer of powder foundation underneath. Make sure to do thorough skincare!! While it doesn't make the skin feel tight, it seems to lose moisture to the mask! It might lack hydration for use in spring and winter, but should be suitable from summer to fall. I usually prefer lighter makeup, but considering my skin might have tanned slightly in summer, I chose shade 2 for fall! It actually covers redness well and doesn't look too dark, so I think I made a good choice! Don't hesitate to go for shade 2! - Hwahae UserOily SkinSep 18, 2020
The Hwahae Testers Review Summary: - Requires slight adjustment in application amount - Applies thinly and feels hydrating - Medium coverage - Long-lasting When I first opened it, I applied too much and it clogged my pores. But from the second application, I adjusted the amount and there was no pore-clogging or patchiness. (The initial issue was due to pressing too hard on the new puff, which picked up too much product.) You don't need to adjust the amount much, but since it's new, even one tap can dispense a lot. It's best to remove a bit or tap very gently. It doesn't apply thickly at all. It applies thinly and feels hydrating. The coverage is right in the middle. For reddish blemishes, a faint mark remains, so it's best to cover with concealer. Otherwise, it covers well, and for areas needing more coverage, layering works satisfactorily. It has impressively long-lasting power. While it may vary depending on base or powder use, in summer, even with powder, foundation often comes off due to sweat under the mask. This one stayed on almost completely even after 3-4 hours of continuous mask-wearing without touch-ups. I always finish with powder as I prefer a matte skin finish. Maybe that's why, but there was hardly any transfer onto the mask, so it was convenient not needing touch-ups after removing the mask. I'm sensitive to scents and can't use strongly fragranced cosmetics at all. This cushion's scent isn't strong - it's just right for comfortable use. I usually do my makeup with foundation and use cushions for touch-ups. I tried using it that way, but it didn't blend well with my foundation, possibly due to incompatibility. It didn't work well for touch-ups and caused patchiness... It works wonderfully when used alone. I've been mainly using foundation but recently started looking for a cushion that suits me. I think I might end up purchasing this cushion for regular use. - Hwahae UserOily SkinSensitive SkinSep 10, 2020
I'm not sure about its strong coverage! You might need to use concealer separately after applying. It's great for dry skin and feels moisturizing. Perfect for winter use. Being an essence cushion, it adheres well to the skin. The biggest advantage seems to be that it doesn't darken or break down over time. As expected, the coverage is the issue. You need to apply a lot for proper coverage, but then it can look a bit cakey! Be sure to finish with concealer. You could probably apply this right after sunscreen without using a separate moisturizer. I'd recommend this more for those with dry skin rather than oily skin, especially in the depths of winter! - Hwahae UserDry SkinAtopy SkinAcne SkinSep 8, 2020
As a member of The Hwahae Testers, here's my review: Package: While it looked just yellow on screen, as you can see in the photo, it has an overall pearlescent and three-dimensional look, which I love. Ingredients: I have sensitive, acne-prone skin that breaks out immediately if I use cosmetics with allergens or about 7 ingredients that aren't good for my skin. However, this product only has about 3 such ingredients, which is pretty good. When I used it, it didn't give my combination dehydrated skin an overly oily glow, which I appreciated. Color: I'm a cool tone 21, but I dislike cool tones and always use warm-toned products. This color feels like a mix of warm and cool. Compared to the second-from-right cool-toned product and the warm-toned one next to it, it's a color that suits both warm and cool tones well. It's my favorite ivory color. Texture: It's like comparing a sticky lip gloss from another brand to a Rom&nd lip gloss. It's moisturizing but not sticky - more like a watery feel? I really liked that. Coverage: As my blemishes aren't too severe, this product was perfect for me. I prefer not to cover everything completely, as that can lead to dead skin cells showing. Looking at it this way, I think I'll buy a refill when I finish this one! Transfer: The first photo shows immediate application, and the second is after powder application. As expected from an essence cushion, some transfer is inevitable! Cushion: As someone with combination dehydrated skin, the cushion felt a bit powdery and seemed to sit on top of my skin. This would be great for winter use. If you need more coverage, I'd recommend using a separate concealer. After applying the product, lightly dusting some powder on top should make it suitable for our mask-wearing era!
