In these mask-wearing times, I've been searching for a semi-matte formula due to skin issues and makeup transfer. After much disappointment, I finally discovered this surprisingly hydrating semi-matte cushion that actually delivers. It's disappointing that this is the lightest shade available. Also, why on earth isn't there a refill option? - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinMar 7, 2021
I'm shade 22 with an olive light undertone. I tried this cushion as a sample when buying a tint, and honestly, it's unique among all the cushions I've used. The texture is quite unusual. It goes on with a dewy finish but sets to a semi-matte. Coverage-wise, for blemish-prone skin, I'd give it 3 out of 5. You can build it up, but it goes on thick rather than sheer. Expect about half a shade of darkening. Romand's signature grayish cast hasn't been improved. Touch-ups are tricky, and after 4-5 hours, it breaks down noticeably, making it very hard to control. It tends to settle into pores and around the nose. No, no... there's nothing good to say... sigh... - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAtopy SkinJan 31, 2021
For me, it feels like it adheres lightly to my skin and the coverage isn't bad at all. Since I have combination dehydrated skin, I prefer semi-matte over fully matte finishes. I love how this goes on moisturizing at first, then settles into a slightly matte finish - it's perfect! The color is a tad dark for me. Next time I buy, I plan to get one shade lighter. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinDec 11, 2020
With my complexion full of redness from blemishes like in the photo, I honestly didn't expect much coverage. But surprisingly, I could achieve a natural one-tone look without concealer, and it even worked well on my textured skin without settling into pores! What's more, it doesn't cake up around the nose, which is fantastic! It's matte but has a subtle glow that makes my skin look naturally good. Plus, it barely transfers to my mask! It's rare for a cushion to achieve this, but they've done the impossible! Even after work, when I took off my mask, there was minimal breakdown. I thought the mask's moisture would make it fade quickly, but the staying power is impressive! I'm 200% sure I'll repurchase when I run out! Since it offers good coverage, it might feel a bit dry for those with dry skin. If you prefer a pink-based skin look, you might find it slightly lacking in brightness. For those with dry skin who can't give up on matte cushions, try layering plenty of hydrating products in your skincare routine and use a hydrating primer. I apply multiple thin layers of moisturizer, followed by an oil-based product before using this cushion! - Hwahae UserDry SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinDec 11, 2020
This cushion is more on the matte side rather than being super moisturizing. It's great at covering most blemishes and redness around the nose area! It has a rose scent, which rose fragrance lovers will adore! Personally, I'm not a fan of rose scents, but that's just my preference. When you first apply the cushion, you get a cool sensation along with the rose fragrance! The case has a clean, subtle charm in an ivory color. Those who like simple designs will probably appreciate it. For me, it felt like a middle ground between matte and semi-matte. My benchmark for semi-matte is Estée Lauder Futurist. If you're looking for a matte foundation but don't want it to be too drying, this might be perfect for you! The puff lacks firmness and feels too soft and fluffy. Because of this, the application isn't as smooth as I'd like. When you pat it on, it can apply a bit thick, and when you try to blend it out, it doesn't spread easily, which was disappointing. For a shade 21, it feels a bit dark. It lacks that bright, luminous effect. The color looks naturally pretty when first applied, but it doesn't wear beautifully over time. It seems to darken a bit too. Despite the initial cool essence-like feeling when applied, it's matte and a bit drying. I have particularly dry cheeks, so that might be why I feel this way, but I also can't really notice the glowy finish they claim. If you have dry skin, you might want to apply a rich moisturizer before using this cushion! Also, this cushion looks much prettier when applied in thin layers rather than thick application. - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinDec 11, 2020
Texture: Semi-matte to matte finish? As someone with oily skin who always needs to set with powder (especially in the T-zone), I don't usually go for a glowy look. Compared to other cushions, this one definitely has less of a sheen when applied! The color is a beautiful peachy tone that might look a bit yellow at first, but it blends naturally with your skin tone, so no worries! Until two years ago, I couldn't even use the lightest shades from drugstore brands. I have very fair skin, oily T-zone, normal U-zone, some dehydration, and sensitive, blemish-prone skin. This product should be perfect for those with 19-21 shades. Scent: I've seen mixed reviews about the fragrance. It has a slightly strong cosmetic smell, so it really depends on personal preference. While I don't love it, I found that after about 5 minutes of wear, the scent fades and becomes tolerable. I can handle it, so I'm on the 'like' side, but everyone's sensitivity to smells differs, so take this with a grain of salt. Blemishes: I think the ingredients are quite good for a cushion. Compared to my previous Clio cushion, it didn't cause any more blemishes. I applied it all over my face and wore it for over 5 hours on the first day, and I didn't experience any major breakouts! Well, I did get a few, but that's normal for my skin and I don't think it's related to the cushion. Packaging: Oh my, oh my, it's so pretty! The iridescent mother-of-pearl effect is beautiful, and the glossy finish means it doesn't show marks easily. My recent Clio cushion had a matte finish and got all smudged within 3 days... Both are only used at home, so the potential for marks is limited. Application feel? Whether it's the cushion or the formula, even a light tap releases a lot of product, making it tricky for beginners like me to apply to small areas... (I might end up covering my cheeks when I only wanted to do under my eyes.) Someone mentioned in a review that it feels sticky, and maybe because of that, it feels plush when applying but also a bit tacky. When I used to set my Clio cushion with powder, the powder puff always felt smooth, but with Rom&nd, it tends to clump and cake up... While this might be fine with the cool winds of fall and winter, you might not like how it applies in the humid summer heat. As a cushion novice, I'm not sure if this is due to the cushion or the formula. Keep your base skincare light! I only applied serum and toner before using this cushion. - Hwahae UserDry SkinAcne SkinDec 11, 2020
I have skin with acne scars and dark spots. I wasn't sure about the coverage, so I applied it thinly, but it still covered more than half of the dark areas. When I layered it twice on problem areas instead of using concealer, it provided full coverage. The overall finish looks matte, but when you touch the skin, it feels hydrated (I applied serum and moisturizer on my dry skin before using this). There's minimal transfer onto masks, especially KF masks. With AD or droplet-blocking masks, there's slight transfer where the mask touches the skin more. The best thing about this product is its staying power. I fell asleep after work, exhausted, and when I woke up, the makeup was still there, barely faded. I was surprised because my previous dewy cushions would disappear as if they were my own skin after sleeping. I already own the Natural 21 shade and wanted to try Pure 21. The color isn't too light, so I think anyone without very dark skin could use it. For those with more blemishes, the Natural shade might provide better coverage. The cushion design, true to the Hanbok Project, has a mother-of-pearl-like decoration that gives it a luxurious feel. It's a bit confusing because I have multiple cases - I thought Natural 21 would have a yellowish case, but it's actually Pure 21 that's yellow, while Natural 21 is light purple. For single cushion refills without a case, I think it would be nice if they included an extra puff, even if it means a slight price increase. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinDec 10, 2020
Color & Skin Appearance Rom&nd does it again! The perfect shade for cool undertones! As someone who usually wears shades 18-21, this applies so naturally and gives a beautiful glow. While my skin underneath is oily and prone to blemishes, the surface feels super dry. That's why I prefer foundations or cushions that apply with some moisture to avoid highlighting dead skin cells, but still finish semi-matte. This one gives a luminous finish without feeling overly moisturizing! It's not matte either, but if you prep your skin well, it applies smoothly without emphasizing texture. Adherence At first, I applied too much without thinking, which caused patchiness. Now I control the amount and spread it widely, focusing on areas with redness. The excellent adherence is evident when wearing a mask - nothing transfers! I was amazed when I rushed out one day, hastily spritzed some setting spray, and found no transfer on my mask. Wow! Longevity Not only does it not transfer, but the glow lasts all day. Great staying power! I usually touch up 1-2 times, but haven't needed to with this. Coverage Despite being a cushion, it covers most imperfections well! Of course, you may need extra concealer for problem areas or dark spots. Design The case design is gorgeous.. so ethereal! Puff The puff shape makes it easy to apply under the eyes and around the nose. With typical round puffs, I'd press my middle finger to create a point for precise application. This shape fits perfectly into those areas without any adjustment needed. It's disappointing that refills aren't available. The case feels a bit loose, though it does click shut. It gives an uneasy feeling like it might open accidentally. For better adherence, apply a suitable amount to the puff, blot excess on the inside of the case to control the quantity, then blend in small amounts. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinDec 7, 2020
First off, the packaging is absolutely stunning. The way it reflects light is just gorgeous. With all the mask-wearing lately, my skin's been acting up, but using the included puff to gently pat it on provides great coverage. I was worried it might be a bit dark and yellow for my skin tone, but it actually blended well with my natural redness, resulting in a nice, balanced finish. It does a good job covering pores too. I love how it gives a slight glow while still having a semi-matte finish. After applying it properly, there was minimal transfer onto my mask. Since I'm used to wearing drying foundations, I didn't experience any discomfort throughout the day. For reference, I usually use Double Wear in Porcelain. The shade was a bit dark and yellow for me, so I hope they expand their color range as the product gains popularity. (See photo. Top: applied side / Bottom: bare side) This isn't really a con, more of a usage tip: if you haven't exfoliated well, it can emphasize dead skin cells and make your skin look dry. Interestingly, on days when my skin texture isn't great, it can look matte but flaky. However, on days when I've exfoliated and moisturized well, it maintains its initial appearance throughout the day. Also, be careful to blend it well before putting on a mask, or it can transfer everywhere. I tried applying it with a foundation brush, which gave less coverage but a nice, thin layer. I added 1-2 more layers on areas needing extra coverage. I like how natural it looks, so I'll probably use the brush often. This would have been even better in a mask-free era. I have a feeling I'll be repurchasing this. - Hwahae UserDry SkinAtopy SkinSensitive SkinDec 5, 2020
I received this as a gift and was pleasantly surprised. The coverage is excellent and looks incredibly natural. It gives a slightly soft-focus effect and has a matte finish, which I found quite satisfying. The only downside is that it feels a tad drying on the skin. At least, that was my experience with it.
