It's perfect for those times when you want to meet people and pretend you're not wearing any makeup. Most people actually believe it! It's seriously amazing.
ConsThe brush compatibility is a real issue - you need to use an expensive one. The excess powder is a major problem. If you're wearing clothes while applying, be prepared for it to get all over your outfit.
TipPerfect for fibbing about not wearing makeup!

The more moisturizing the formula (like those with a jojoba base), the harder it is to dispense from the container, while matte formulas come out more easily. I used it for a while and then mixed it with a concealer I bought separately.
ConsIf your base is too moisturizing, it can look patchy or clumpy. The coverage is not as good compared to other formulas, so sometimes I use a regular formula for light coverage and use this as both a finishing powder and for additional coverage.
TipFor those unsure about product colors! The first number indicates brightness (closer to 0 means lighter complexion), and the letter at the end represents the undertone (N: Neutral, W: Warm/Golden, C: Cool/Rosy).

By mixing base powder, concealer powder, and color corrector powder in a separate container to my liking, I've finally found the perfect shade that works for me, even though most store-bought bases never quite matched. I love that I can pre-mix and store it long-term without worrying about spoilage since it's a powder formula. Honestly, powder foundations have countless drawbacks, and I sometimes consider going back to regular bases. But I can't let go because nothing else feels as comfortable on my skin. So despite its many flaws and only giving it 4 stars, I'll use this until the day I die. When used alone, it washes off easily without harsh cleansers, and it feels relatively comfortable on the skin compared to other bases. However, its staying power and coverage are on the lower side (but using the right brush, like a buffing brush, can significantly improve pore coverage and overall coverage, even without primer). Using a small amount as a finishing powder over a regular base can slightly boost coverage and correct mismatched tones. Rather than completely breaking down, it tends to fade over time (if not set with another matte powder). The initial slightly powdery feeling naturally dissipates, leaving skin looking beautifully natural. Of course, this refers to when it's moderately faded - if it wears off too much, you might end up looking bare-faced and haggard.
ConsIt's challenging to achieve the right balance of hydrated inner skin and slightly powdery outer skin, especially with already dry skin. I struggled a lot with my skincare routine for a while. After all that effort, using a finishing powder increases longevity but seems to make the breakdown messier. Using it alone requires frequent touch-ups and extreme caution around water and sweat. Though less drying for a powder, it's still not ideal for dry skin types - they should either avoid it or use very little as a finishing powder. Those with lots of dead skin cells should probably skip it for their mental health, though I've used it even with flaky skin. It might be due to my poor base application or technique, but I find the powder tends to clump rather than spread evenly. I prefer quickly applying thin layers to one area at a time instead of dotting it all over and then blending. And the biggest drawback - the excess powder! No matter how carefully you apply it, powder ends up somewhere, and you inevitably inhale some despite holding your breath. If you break out while using this product, it could be due to ingredient sensitivity, brush/puff irritation and bacteria, or even lung issues from inhaling the powder.
TipAlthough this product is meant to be applied with a brush, I've tried every brush and found them all irritating, so I've settled on using a cotton puff. I press the puff into the powder, then gently tap it on a folded tissue to control the amount before applying. This allows for a light, even application without excess. It might feel a bit heavier than using a brush, but mixing concealer powder with the base powder and applying thin layers with a puff can significantly boost coverage - not quite Double Wear level, but surprisingly good. For touch-ups on the go, I carry some in a portable powder container and gently pat it on with a puff - it's a fairly easy way to refresh your makeup.

Semi-matte has finer particles and is less dry, resulting in less pilling. Choose matte to completely eliminate skin's glow, or semi-matte to maintain natural glow and reduce pilling. Note: I have combination dehydrated skin, so my face always has some shine. - Color: * 1w golden ivory (formerly light olive): Slightly darker than Korean shade 23, with a yellow undertone. Recommend if you love MAC's signature cornmeal yellow. Also tried 3w golden beige (formerly buttered tan) but it's too dark (like Double Wear Rattan), only using it on chin with high SPF sunscreen. * 3n beige: Perfect match for Korean shade 23 ivory base, giving a subtle brightening effect on my skin. Usually prefer warm undertones, but trying a neutral base to counteract yellow tones due to winter paleness and natural black hair - successfully pulling off a cool tone look. - Surprisingly good at covering blemishes and uneven texture. Heavier application achieves that classic Western matte, flawless skin look. Bonus: No more foundation creasing around the nose. - Even when oil emerges, it doesn't break down messily. Instead, it fades naturally. - Light formula allows for cleansing with just a low pH cleanser. - Great portability due to compact size and inner lid that twists to close, preventing spills.
Cons- Wrong brush choice can result in a cakey application. For a softer finish at the expense of coverage, use a soft, long-bristled brush. - Doesn't cover large pores in the T-zone. Don't expect a flawless, picture-perfect finish. It's more of a 'My Skin But Better' (MSBB) effect. - Fails if skincare is too oily or moisturizing, causing powder to clump. Use light, quickly-absorbing hydrating products for best results. - 1w golden ivory: Personally, I'd prefer it slightly more yellow for a brighter look. Disappointingly, it seems to darken as more is applied for coverage. - Some darkening occurs in oily seasons and it's not water-resistant, making summer use impractical. As someone with combination dehydrated skin, I only use it in dry seasons (fall through early spring). - Inevitable powder fallout. Expect your vanity to get twice as messy.
Tip* Tool recommendations: 1. Real Techniques Expert Face Brush - Greatly improves coverage of blemishes and texture. Be careful with amount to avoid pilling. 2. Standard powder brush (using Daiso wooden handle) - Extremely natural look but poor coverage. 3. Real Techniques Buffing Brush (from Core Collection set) - Best skin finish. Combines advantages of 1 & 2. Highly recommended! Versatile for any foundation texture. 4. EcoTools Buffing Brush - Amazing for smoothing skin texture. Decent coverage. Note: Picks up more powder than others, so be careful to avoid cakiness. * Color selection guide: Colors are named in number-letter-name format (e.g., 1W Golden Ivory) - Number indicates brightness. 0 is lightest, increasing numbers are darker. - Letter denotes undertone: Cool (C), Warm (W), Neutral (N). C tends to be pinkish, W yellowish, and N ivory or slightly grayish. Generally, warm shades appear darker than cool or neutral in the same number range. - Names vary but are consistent across undertones for the same brightness. 'Golden' prefix indicates warm, 'rosy' indicates cool, no prefix is neutral. - For typical Korean 21-23 shades, recommend choosing brightness 0-3. * EM US official site often runs 'Buy 2 Get 1 Free' promotions. For international shoppers, Coupang Global is a good option.

The neutral shade range should work well for most light to medium skin tones (21-22 in Korean shades). As expected from a mineral foundation, it gives that 'your skin but better' look. I've even received compliments on my skin (it looks even better in person than in photos). Personally, I've noticed fewer blemishes and my skin feels lighter and more comfortable.
ConsWhile it's not a big issue for me as I'm unemployed, it can be fussy and time-consuming to apply. You need to maintain your brushes and prep your skin with just the right amount of moisture before application. This depends on the weather and your skin condition - too much hydration can cause the foundation to clump, while insufficient moisture or poor exfoliation can lead to flaking. Those with consistent skin conditions might face fewer of these issues. The longevity is average, similar to a moisturizing BB cream or foundation. It doesn't last as long as long-wear formulas like Estée Lauder Double Wear or Make Up For Ever HD Foundation. Without touch-ups, it tends to fade by evening, especially if you have oily skin. I usually touch up with a powder compact throughout the day. The coverage is medium - if you need more coverage, a matte base might be better. This semi-matte finish provides decent coverage and naturally evens out skin tone. For areas needing extra coverage, I use the brand's concealer or other concealers.
TipThe application can vary slightly depending on the brush used. Personally, I prefer rounded powder brushes over flat-top brushes. Lately, I've been using the Real Techniques Buffing Brush. When my skin looks particularly red, I mix in a bit of the brand's mint-colored color corrector to neutralize the redness.

I've tried both semi-matte and matte versions. My skin tone is around #22, a bit on the warmer side. Initially, I used Fairy Light, then Fairy Light Neutral. When my skin is more tanned, Fairy Light is better, but when my dermatitis flares up and I'm all red, Fairy Light Neutral suits me better. Now the names have changed, so it might be called Light 2N or something similar. You can find a comparison chart with the old color names on the EM site. Interestingly, the coverage of these bases varies depending on the brush you use. I use the Real Techniques foundation brush and EcoTools kabuki brush.
ConsIt takes forever to use up, haha! But since I'm scooping it out anyway, it doesn't really matter.
TipFirst, prepare your face by mixing sunscreen and a gentle BB cream in a 5:2 ratio. Then, tap some of this product onto the lid, swirl your brush in it, tap off the excess like you're ashing a cigarette, and apply it to your face using circular motions with a flick of the wrist. For the nose, use a stamping motion with the brush. This is because if you swirl powder on your nose, it makes your pores look huge... ugh. Two layers should give decent coverage. Your vanity will end up covered in EM powder! P.S. There's a 20% off sale on iHerb until July 27, 2016!

I bought one of the EM powders because it's so famous, and I chose Rosy Fair because I wanted one without yellow undertones. Now I'm wondering why I picked this when my face isn't even that pale. Reviews said that when applied, there's barely any color and it just acts like a regular powder. In reality, after tapping off the brush and lightly sweeping it on at the end, it controls oil and creates a more matte and brightened complexion. It's perfect for summer. Even though the shade is much lighter than my skin tone, it doesn't show if applied lightly, so I'm using it well. That being said, it's not a translucent powder.
ConsIf you can't control the amount on the brush, it can clump on your face... and it clumps while clearly showing its own color, making your face look patchy and uneven. Plus, it controls oil better than expected, so I don't use it much outside of summer. The powder flies everywhere... The holes are small, so if you tap it impatiently, you'll see an incredible amount of excess powder.
