Semi-matte has finer particles and is less dry, resulting in less pilling. Choose matte to completely eliminate skin's glow, or semi-matte to maintain natural glow and reduce pilling. Note: I have combination dehydrated skin, so my face always has some shine. - Color: * 1w golden ivory (formerly light olive): Slightly darker than Korean shade 23, with a yellow undertone. Recommend if you love MAC's signature cornmeal yellow. Also tried 3w golden beige (formerly buttered tan) but it's too dark (like Double Wear Rattan), only using it on chin with high SPF sunscreen. * 3n beige: Perfect match for Korean shade 23 ivory base, giving a subtle brightening effect on my skin. Usually prefer warm undertones, but trying a neutral base to counteract yellow tones due to winter paleness and natural black hair - successfully pulling off a cool tone look. - Surprisingly good at covering blemishes and uneven texture. Heavier application achieves that classic Western matte, flawless skin look. Bonus: No more foundation creasing around the nose. - Even when oil emerges, it doesn't break down messily. Instead, it fades naturally. - Light formula allows for cleansing with just a low pH cleanser. - Great portability due to compact size and inner lid that twists to close, preventing spills.
Cons- Wrong brush choice can result in a cakey application. For a softer finish at the expense of coverage, use a soft, long-bristled brush. - Doesn't cover large pores in the T-zone. Don't expect a flawless, picture-perfect finish. It's more of a 'My Skin But Better' (MSBB) effect. - Fails if skincare is too oily or moisturizing, causing powder to clump. Use light, quickly-absorbing hydrating products for best results. - 1w golden ivory: Personally, I'd prefer it slightly more yellow for a brighter look. Disappointingly, it seems to darken as more is applied for coverage. - Some darkening occurs in oily seasons and it's not water-resistant, making summer use impractical. As someone with combination dehydrated skin, I only use it in dry seasons (fall through early spring). - Inevitable powder fallout. Expect your vanity to get twice as messy.
Tip* Tool recommendations: 1. Real Techniques Expert Face Brush - Greatly improves coverage of blemishes and texture. Be careful with amount to avoid pilling. 2. Standard powder brush (using Daiso wooden handle) - Extremely natural look but poor coverage. 3. Real Techniques Buffing Brush (from Core Collection set) - Best skin finish. Combines advantages of 1 & 2. Highly recommended! Versatile for any foundation texture. 4. EcoTools Buffing Brush - Amazing for smoothing skin texture. Decent coverage. Note: Picks up more powder than others, so be careful to avoid cakiness. * Color selection guide: Colors are named in number-letter-name format (e.g., 1W Golden Ivory) - Number indicates brightness. 0 is lightest, increasing numbers are darker. - Letter denotes undertone: Cool (C), Warm (W), Neutral (N). C tends to be pinkish, W yellowish, and N ivory or slightly grayish. Generally, warm shades appear darker than cool or neutral in the same number range. - Names vary but are consistent across undertones for the same brightness. 'Golden' prefix indicates warm, 'rosy' indicates cool, no prefix is neutral. - For typical Korean 21-23 shades, recommend choosing brightness 0-3. * EM US official site often runs 'Buy 2 Get 1 Free' promotions. For international shoppers, Coupang Global is a good option.

My skin tone is around #21 with yellow undertones. I was a bit worried it might be too light when I ordered, but upon application, it's perfect. It neutralizes my yellow tones while giving my complexion a radiant boost. What's even better is that as time passes, my skin develops a dewy glow that looks like that coveted 'glass skin' effect. I wholeheartedly recommend this product. Plus, the ingredients are so gentle that I haven't experienced any blemishes.
ConsThe only downside is that it's not ideal for touch-ups or on-the-go application due to its bulky size and the excess powder that can fly around. It's a bit inconvenient in that regard. I really wish they'd release this in a cushion format - that would be perfect!
TipPro tip: Tap a small amount of powder into the lid, then pick it up with your brush and tap off the excess before applying. I like to add an extra layer on my oily T-zone for better coverage.

Despite being a powder, it's not drying thanks to the minerals, and it has tiny pearls that make your skin feel soft to the touch while looking dewy! When I wear this, people tell me my skin looks clean and healthy!
ConsDon't expect any coverage from this. It only provides very slight tone correction. If you forget this and absentmindedly keep layering it on, you'll experience the miracle of still having no coverage but looking like a cakey mess! For dark circles or blemishes, you'll need to use a separate concealer or the powder concealer from the same brand. I just apply it thickly with a small brush for a bit more coverage.
Tip>I bought 0W, which is equivalent to shade 21 with a yellow base. 2W is about shade 23. If you have lighter skin, you might need to buy a lighter pink or neutral base to mix with it. >For brush application techniques, search for 'everydayminerals' or 'bareminerals' on YouTube. There are many helpful videos. I use a flat brush from the same company. >Be careful with water! When I rinsed with lukewarm water a few times, it all washed off. So now I just rinse a few times and then use a cleansing foam for a quick wash. >Although it contains titanium dioxide which might suggest sun protection, it's not specifically labeled as such. It's best to apply sunscreen separately.

My skin tone is slightly darker and more yellow than shade 23, with some redness and normal skin type. For me, 4N is a bit light and pink, but it's still okay. It might look a bit bright when first applied, but if you wait a moment, it blends naturally into the skin. Despite being a powder, it's not drying and gives a nice glow. If you apply it over well-absorbed skincare, it looks just like your natural skin. It washes off easily even with mild soap, and surprisingly, it wears off naturally throughout the day. I used to use bareMinerals Original Foundation for about 2 years. This one is a bit more hydrating and has better coverage than bareMinerals. After using mineral foundation for a long time, I've noticed that my skin shows less signs of aging compared to my friends who use liquid foundations.
ConsThe inner lid of the case can't be locked, making it difficult to carry around. The coverage isn't perfect. The staying power isn't great. I might need to buy a finishing powder as suggested by other Hwahae Testers. Also, there are so many shades that it was confusing at first to choose the right one. It might get a bit oily in the peak of summer, but you can switch to the matte version instead of jojoba for that.
TipIf it doesn't seem to be blending well, I splash some cold water on my face and let it dry naturally. When my redness is severe, I mix it with the Jojoba Mint Collector and apply it over the red areas.

Even after hours, there's no flaking, no dryness, and it doesn't break down messily. My skin feels as comfortable as if I'm wearing nothing at all. It gives a slight glow that makes my skin look fantastic. It's absolutely amazing!
ConsLauroyl lysine? I heard it clogs pores, so I'm using the jojoba base instead of the semi-matte. The coverage is slightly less than a regular foundation. @Update: The renewed version no longer contains lauroyl lysine.
TipApplied with a brush, it gives a natural, bare-skin look but makes your complexion appear flawless. For higher coverage, use a puff - it applies with a powdery finish and improves coverage. If your skin tone is lighter than shade 21, I recommend using the Golden Fair color.
