ConsWithin just a day, blemishes started appearing one by one, and it only got worse. The mugwort scent is overwhelming... It really stings if it gets in your eyes. They recommended this because I wanted something lightweight, but oh no!
TipI'm at a loss for what to do with this product!

ConsIf it accidentally gets into your eyes, it stings quite a bit. I'd recommend using it carefully with a cotton pad!

The texture is very fluid, almost like water. Rather than using it as an exfoliating toner, I found it's best to soak a cotton pad generously and place it on the skin, or gently pat it in for absorption. The scent... it reminds me of a traditional herbal medicine clinic! There's a subtle aroma of various medicinal herbs, which I find incredibly soothing and comforting. It's as if the fragrance alone makes my skin feel at ease. I've tried a wide range of first essences, from high-end to budget-friendly options, and this one definitely ranks in my top 3. It's on par with my favorite, the Sum Secret Essence. It provides that same level of hydration and moisture-locking effect. Once applied, it doesn't absorb so quickly that you need to rush to the next step of your skincare routine. Instead, the hydration lingers, allowing you to move on to the next product at a leisurely pace. It's refreshing yet deeply moisturizing, making it suitable for use all year round. If you haven't found your go-to first essence yet, I highly recommend this one. It's not overly expensive, so give it a try!
ConsIf it gets into your eyes, you might feel a very slight tingling sensation. Those with super sensitive skin should be careful to avoid getting it in their eyes.

It's a safe and clean-feeling product with great ingredients.
ConsOf course it stings if it gets in your eyes. Also, it has a herbal scent.
TipI was pleased to get a full-size sleeping pack as a buy-one-get-one-free deal when I purchased this.

I'm sharing this review after using the product for about three months. I actually have experience working part-time at Tonymoly for a month! Before that, I had some preconceptions about roadshop skincare products, but Tonymoly's skincare line was so cost-effective and packed with goodness that I changed my mind. Now I'm a fan of their skincare products! Let me start my honest, self-purchased review! Highlights of the product: 1. Large size Essences usually come in small bottles, making you want to use them sparingly. But this product comes in a generous 150ml, so you can apply it liberally! 2. Texture I prefer thinner essences, and this one has a water-like consistency! Check out the photo! Because it's so fluid, I applied it with a cotton pad after using toner. Otherwise, it would run too much on my face. It left my skin feeling clean, as if I'd applied an ampoule! 3. Scent As it's a mugwort herbal essence, it has a mugwort and herbal scent! Personally, I associate herbal scents with health, so I didn't mind it - my younger sister liked it too! I think it might be a matter of personal preference. Older folks might enjoy it as well! 4. Ingredients Looking at the ingredients, it says it's 100% mugwort extract! The Hwahae app also shows it has a low risk factor! 5. Soothing effect This product's main benefits are hydration and soothing! Mugwort's primary effect is soothing, right? It claims to calm redness, and while the effect wasn't dramatic, I did notice some improvement! After the essence was fully absorbed, my skin had a certain glow, indicating it was nourished and hydrated.
Cons1. The watery texture means it can run from your forehead to your chin, sometimes getting on your clothes. It also stings if it gets in your eyes, which made me scared to apply it on my forehead. 2. Since it's a herbal product with mugwort extract, results may vary! It worked very well for me, but it's not an extremely gentle product, so be aware that it might not suit everyone.
TipI've been using this routine for almost a year! Here's a reference for those interested: After cleansing with Tonymoly The Chok Chok Green Tea Toner, I spray Avene Thermal Spring Water and let it absorb. Then I apply Aestura AC Control Emulsion. Next, I use Goodal serum followed by this First Essence. Finally, I mix Centella Cicaderm cream with Centella Dressing Powder and apply it to areas with blemishes! Simple, right? You'll notice a lot of Tonymoly products - I bought them all myself! I guess their marketing worked on me! That concludes my review of the Tonymoly Strengthening Pure Mugwort First Essence. Thank you!

First of all, I have a skin type that is very prone to clogged pores, with minimal oil but always some milia (small bumps) on my forehead, whiteheads (milia) on my chin, and occasional pimples. I started getting these issues as an adult, and in the last few months, I've been switching to gentler skincare products. The pimples don't come as often now, but I still have a few milia here and there. In this state, I received this product and have been using it for a week now. There was a trend of mugwort extract skincare products, right? I never considered buying them because they were quite expensive, and I was told they were good for soothing, but my skin doesn't really get irritated often, so I thought they would just be like water. And using this, the effect I felt was that the milia on my forehead disappeared at some point. And on my chin, even after exfoliating, there was always clogged pores and bumpy texture from trapped sebum under the skin - that has almost completely gone now, even though I'm only using gentle skincare. The smoothness is most noticeable when I wash my face - the rough, bumpy texture on my forehead and chin that I had almost resigned myself to is now almost gone. I'm quite amazed, as this is the only product I've changed in my routine, so I believe it's thanks to this essence. The usage experience was also good. I apply it with my hands, and my previous first essence was too drying, and the hyaluronic acid toner I bought to compensate for that didn't really give me a lasting hydrated feeling. This has a very watery texture, but it doesn't just evaporate quickly and stays on the skin for a long time. It's not sticky or tacky after absorption. Now in the middle of summer, I'm just using this essence and a lightweight lotion, and it's definitely keeping my skin hydrated longer than when I used the first essence and lotion. The scent is not exactly mugwort to me, but more like a mild herbal/medicinal scent, like a liquid digestive supplement. I actually really like that scent, so I enjoy it. I've been using it for about a This is my first time using a mugwort skincare product, so I'm not sure if the disappearance of the milia is specifically due to this essence, or if the effect would diminish over time like my previous first essence (I'll update later if I notice any changes). But if this effect continues, I'll likely keep using this regularly, even though the price is quite burdensome for me. If you haven't tried a mugwort essence before, you may see similar effects as I did, so it's worth giving it a try! + Additional update on 2020.12.16 I've continued using this product and it's been working well for me! I still get a few milia on my forehead and some clogged pores on my chin, but the hydration and plumpness I feel after using this as the first step is unmatched. As someone with very dehydrated skin, even after using toners and first essences, my skin would quickly feel tight again, but this seems to really lock in the moisture and prepare my skin well for the rest of my routine. The price is over 40,000 won per bottle, which is quite expensive, but I've been able to find it online for almost half the price, so I've continued purchasing it and plan to keep using it. Getting to try this as a Hwahae Trial Reviewer was such a lucky opportunity - I'd highly recommend this to anyone with dry skin like mine. It must not be discontinued!
ConsIt really feels like water, so I have to reapply it 2-3 times and it just keeps disappearing. It's too expensive 😢 Other brands' mugwort essences are around the same price, but as a student, I don't think I can keep using this one. And since it's a water-based formula, it goes on easily, but it stings a bit..
TipAfter morning and evening cleansing, apply 1-3 layers by dispensing onto the hands, allowing absorption, then apply lotion.

I have super sensitive skin. 1. When I applied it like a mask on areas with redness, I could visibly see the redness subsiding after just a few minutes! 2. The water-based formula absorbs well, and it works great with makeup without causing any pilling. 3. I felt reassured using this product knowing it contains 100% mugwort extract as the only ingredient!
Cons1. Perhaps due to using only mugwort as the main ingredient, the price point feels a bit steep. If you're planning to buy it, it might be best to wait for a sale. 2. It can sting a little if it gets in your eyes, and those who dislike the scent of mugwort might be hesitant to use it... However, the scent does fade away quickly.
TipGreat for calming irritated skin! I'd definitely repurchase once I finish this bottle. I absolutely love it!

Surprisingly, while using this (along with my dermatologist's prescribed medication), I noticed a significant reduction in the number of blemishes. New breakouts decreased, and the overall calming effect on my skin was visibly noticeable.
ConsThe mugwort scent is quite strong. I also realized the price is quite high, which is unfortunate since I've been using it generously. It tends to irritate my eyes.
