Personally, I didn't feel any discomfort when applying it. It absorbed smoothly. - Brightening effect: It's definitely there. However, you really need to control the amount well. If you squeeze out too much and just apply it, you'll end up with an unappealing white face. If you think of it as spot coverage and apply it little by little, you can achieve a natural fair skin look, not like the white cast from sunscreen!
Cons- There's no perfect skin tone corrector - While it does correct the complexion to some extent, there are limitations. It's clear that the green capsules provide some coverage for redness, but it seems to require a certain level of precision when applying.
TipI mixed it with my sunscreen, applying the mixture only to areas that needed brightening, and used just sunscreen on the rest of my face.

If you find this helpful, please give it a like for more great info. What I loved: It worked well without changing my skin tone, just like other brands - that's great! Even with my extremely oily skin, it didn't disappear quickly. I liked the natural-looking brightening effect. Most importantly, don't worry about it coming off - it becomes spotless with just a little water.
ConsSome drawbacks: 1. If you apply it when you have flaky skin, be careful as it can create a lot of excess powder. 2. It has a grayish tint that can make you look a bit dull. 3. Remember, use it in moderation - too much and you might look ghostly! 4. There's a slight increase in oiliness, but it's tolerable.
TipInsider tips revealed: 1. It's a perfect match when used with sunscreen (but avoid white-toned sunscreens). 2. Applying a suitable amount to reddened areas can help balance out the redness. For those who wear makeup, if you apply foundation over it, the redness won't show through! I'll share more tips as I discover them.

First off, the brightening effect was definitely noticeable. I used to only use BB cream, but after using this brightening moisturizer, my complexion was visibly brighter. Initially, due to how well it absorbs, I thought it might be too light, but about 30 minutes after application, it blends with my skin's natural warmth for a more natural look. Lastly, the long-lasting effect is great - if I apply it in the morning, it maintains a pretty good effect until evening.
ConsThe scent is a bit disappointing. Although it's only noticeable during application, it has that distinct smell typical of men's sunscreens. Also, the whitening effect is stronger than expected, so if you don't apply it evenly, you might end up with a ghostly appearance (where your face looks too pale).
TipPersonally, I wait about 5 minutes after applying this product before putting on sunscreen. That's when I check for any white cast, and if any areas seem a bit too bright, I gently pat them a bit more, which works perfectly for me.

I've tried toning creams from other brands before, and even when I adjusted the amount, they still felt like a mask. But DTRT Spotlight doesn't give that feeling at all while still evening out my skin tone! Plus, it didn't leave my skin feeling dry.
ConsIt seems to have more hydration than I expected. If you have extremely oily skin, you might find it a bit sticky, but for combination skin, it provides moisture without any feeling of tightness.
TipThe key with brightening moisturizers seems to be applying small pumps and spreading them out. This prevents clumping and gives a natural brightening effect! Also, applying it to your neck can help create a seamless, natural look.

Natural brightening effect - It truly lives up to its name in terms of evening skin tone. Unlike other brands that can make your face look unnaturally white or leave a white cast like some sunscreens, this product naturally enhances your existing complexion without making it look off. As mentioned in the product description, it even helps cover redness (which is great for me as I have sensitive, atopic skin that tends to look blotchy), which I really appreciated. 2. Ingredients - While it does contain PEG, overall the ingredient list isn't overwhelming even for someone with sensitive, atopic skin like me. I was pleased to see that they've excluded potentially harmful or allergenic ingredients and alcohol, so there was no itching or irritation after application. I was honestly surprised at how far Korean men's skincare has come in terms of quality... From niacinamide that aids in brightening, corn starch and titanium dioxide that help absorb excess oil, to Centella Asiatica extract known for its soothing properties - the ingredient list exceeded my expectations. 3. Application - One thing you often have to compromise with most brightening moisturizers or tone-up sunscreens is how they apply. Even when you don't expect it, they can end up being thick and sticky, sometimes pilling or moving around depending on your base products. However, this product has a consistency between a cream and an emulsion, making it easy to smooth over the skin effortlessly.
Cons1. Hydration - This is somewhat unavoidable due to its oil-control purpose. However, sensitive skin needs moisture to prevent dryness-induced itching. You'll need to apply emulsion and cream thoroughly before using this product to balance hydration and tone-up effects. 2. Amount control - This could be seen as a positive point too... Even a small amount covers well due to its good absorption. However, if you use slightly too much, it can look like you've applied a mask. It can be tricky to blend in if you've over-applied. A bit more than a rice grain-sized amount is sufficient for the forehead and cheeks. 3. Sun protection - If the purpose of a brightening moisturizer is to simplify your skincare and makeup routine when going out by providing a natural tone-up effect, I believe it should also offer at least some sun protection. Nowadays, sun protection is essential, not to mention protection against heat and fine dust... This aspect is a bit disappointing. Having to apply sunscreen on top of this is... sigh.
TipMake sure to do a thorough skincare routine before applying, and only pump out a small amount of product.

Even after applying BB cream or cushion foundation over the DTRT tone-up cream Spotlight, there's no pilling and it adheres well to the skin (great adhesion). 2. It's great for applying on the neck to blend the facial boundary seamlessly. 3. It definitely helps neutralize redness effectively (covers redness well). 4. If you don't mind having a slightly lighter tone on just your face, it should naturally brighten your complexion.
ConsIt tends to settle into pores even when used after shaving... Maybe it needs a primer underneath?! It also clings to facial hair, haha. Hmm... it might be wise to use it sparingly.
TipFor those with clear skin, you might be able to skip separate base makeup by lightly applying this over a primer. It's not greasy, feels moisturizing, and the staying power is decent even when you sweat!

It's so sleek that even after I've used it all up, I'll probably keep it on my vanity! The brightening effect is incredibly natural. My complexion stayed radiant from the moment I got to work until I left. Every time I looked in the mirror, it made me feel great. When I apply it in the morning and rinse with water before cleansing in the evening, it washes off cleanly. Since it's a product that doesn't put much stress on cleansing, I didn't experience any blemishes while using this cream.
ConsIt doesn't seem to cover red acne marks very well. It's definitely different from a concealer. Yesterday morning, I was sweating so much I couldn't even think about applying it... At least you only have to see the white streaks running down your face when you're washing it off...
TipAt this point, I'm sure everyone knows, but unless you're going for that extreme Japanese look, let's stick to just two pumps. The fact that it washes off with water might bother some people, but you don't need to apply it every day. It might be best to save it for times like the rainy season.

I was thrilled! Pros: 1. Effective. As a brightening moisturizer, it definitely evens skin tone. I have severe facial redness, but this cream noticeably covered the blotchiness! With foundation or cushion on top, no need for concealer - flawless! 2. Application and feel. Despite being a makeup base, it's not heavy as I feared. It melts with body heat and spreads easily. Basic, but I loved it! 3. Skin compatibility. My T-zone is oily while my U-zone is dry (worse than average, especially the oil). I worried it might flake on my cheeks or slide off my nose and forehead. Imagine sweating outside for graduation photos - nightmare! But it exceeded expectations! The brightening moisturizer + cushion + powder combo maintained its shape surprisingly well. I'm impressed!
ConsDrawbacks... I have fairly normal skin, so no major complaints, but if I had to choose one: 1. The particles... You think the cream is applying smoothly, then suddenly notice something that's neither sebum nor anything else stuck on your face. I had to wipe it off like cleaning. Maybe these particles help even the skin tone? Still, it was bothersome, even if removing them didn't affect performance. That's my main gripe.
TipLess of a tip and more of an observation - I have extremely oily skin, so I dismissed reviews mentioning dryness. However, it's surprisingly matte. If you have dry skin, make sure to hydrate well before applying this brightening moisturizer to avoid flaking.

While BB creams often felt heavy and cakey, this DTRT brightening moisturizer applies like a regular emulsion - smooth and lightweight, which I love. It's great that I don't need to worry about how much to use; it naturally evens my skin tone. Unlike sunscreens that leave a white cast, this makes my complexion look brighter, truly living up to its 'Spotlight' name. It's also sweat and water-resistant, so no white streaks appear. The staying power is impressive. Lastly, it's easy to remove with a foam cleanser.
ConsI wouldn't recommend this for those with dead skin cells or large pores. There's a noticeable difference between applying it on the back of your hand versus directly on your face. The hand is relatively smooth, so it applies neatly, but on the face, it can emphasize pores or facial hair. Also, it's a bit cumbersome to apply sunscreen and then this brightening moisturizer. In the end, it feels just as suffocating as wearing BB cream alone.

Matte finish: When first pumped, the texture seems a bit runny, but as soon as you apply it to your face, you'll notice a pleasantly powdery finish. This could be ideal for those with oily or combination skin. 2. Effective with small amounts: Just a tiny amount is enough for noticeable complexion improvement. This suggests the product will last quite a while within its shelf life. 3. Can replace cushion or foundation: For men who find it inconvenient to touch up cushion or foundation throughout the day, this product offers a simpler alternative. With the right amount, it provides a more natural-looking correction to even out skin tone and improve overall appearance. 4. Good value for money: Considering the quantity and quality, the price point is quite reasonable.
Cons1. Matte finish can make even application tricky: Due to its matte nature, it's best to apply quickly in one go. If you dot it on different areas before blending, you might end up with an uneven application, like rice cakes with patchy rice flour. 2. Overdoing it can lead to a ghostly look: Using too much product can make you look like you're ready for a passport photo! Always stick to small amounts. 3. Can create patches when sweating: I've experienced some blotchiness when sweating, which led me to layer a cushion on top.
TipTo combat the matte dryness, try mixing it with a bit of moisturizer or hyaluronic acid. Remember to apply quickly for best results!
