As someone with super sensitive skin, I think this review could be helpful for those struggling with itching, small bumps, or worsening acne when using incompatible products. It might also benefit those with sensitive, allergy-prone skin, or contact dermatitis. Regarding functionality, this cleansing oil does its job well. It effectively removes makeup, including eyeliner, eyebrow products, and lipstick, without any issues. The user experience is great too. It feels gentle on the skin with minimal irritation, leaving no burning sensation after use. Unlike some oils, it doesn't have that sticky, clumpy feeling. When rinsing with water, it emulsifies well without separating. Overall, it addresses many common drawbacks of oil cleansers, which is very satisfying. If you don't have skin like mine, you probably won't find any downsides to this product. Currently, my skin becomes itchy, swollen, and develops small bumps (not cystic acne) immediately if I apply anything that doesn't suit it. My skin has changed from being resilient and blemish-free to sensitive and allergy-prone. Even after thorough cleansing, this product leaves my skin itchy. Firstly, I think the oil itself doesn't agree with me. Secondly, I've had similar reactions to other Shu Uemura products and even body creams from other brands. Upon investigation, I found that these products contain limonene and linalool, which are known to cause allergies. These ingredients are likely causing my skin to become itchy and red. Unfortunately, these two ingredients are also present in this product. While I was very satisfied during use, the aftermath was problematic. The intense itching on my face had a reason after all. If you don't have sensitive, allergy-prone skin like mine, you'll likely be very satisfied with this product. It might not be suitable for those with atopic skin either, as the ingredients seem to be quite irritating. Although my skin reacted badly, I'm fortunate to have discovered the Hwahae app. Now I can avoid ingredients that don't suit me. It's crucial to check the ingredients and choose products that don't contain any components you're sensitive to. Once your skin becomes this sensitive, it takes a long time to recover, which can be really challenging. While this product doesn't work for my skin and has some concerning ingredients, it seems great for those with resilient skin. I'd rate it 0 for sensitive skin, but 5 for tougher skin types. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinDec 29, 2019
While searching for a cleansing oil, I heard about this famous product and bought the travel kit with 4 types at the duty-free shop. It included Ultimate Cleansing Oil, Anti/Oxi Cleansing Oil, PoreFinest Cleansing Oil, and Blanc:Chroma Cleansing Oil. I've tried two of them so far: the Anti/Oxi and the Blanc:Chroma. I bought Shu Uemura cleansing oil because I heard it was good, but it was absolutely terrible for me. It was the first time I've ever had an allergic reaction to a cosmetic product. At first, I couldn't believe it was the cause and tried to find other reasons, but after stopping use for a while and trying it again yesterday, my face broke out in an allergic reaction. The itching was unbearable. Not only my face, but my neck was affected too. My lips swelled up and my neck turned red. The itching wasn't just temporary - it lasted for quite a while and my skin condition became awful. While it might work well for some people, I'm posting this review for those who might suffer like I did. - Hwahae UserNormal SkinSep 15, 2019
What are the good points of this oil cleanser? It rolls on smoothly. It also has good cleansing effectiveness. Personally, I believe cleansers are the most crucial among skincare products. What you use can significantly impact skin blemishes and the skin barrier. After buying this product, my skin became extremely dry. It's also very itchy. I wondered if it was really because of this cleansing oil, so I stopped using it and switched back to my original cleanser. Surprisingly, the deep dryness that made my skin feel like it was cracking disappeared! I have combination dehydrated skin, but right after changing to this oil, my skin felt incredibly dry and seemed to be cracking (not only did the surface become dry and my makeup looked patchy, but the feeling of inner cracking intensified). I thought, 'Could it really be because of the cleanser?' Turns out, this was indeed the problem... Wondering if it was just me, I looked at other reviews and found some people also complained about dryness after cleansing. While it's true that products work differently for everyone's skin, I've never experienced a product that caused such extreme dryness. If you're sensitive to this issue, please carefully consider before using. Choosing the right cleanser is truly important! Make sure to try a sample before purchasing. - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinSep 11, 2019
The cleansing effectiveness is good, but I can't use it anymore after just a couple of times because it caused blemishes to appear. It makes my skin itchy, tingling, and causes blemishes to pop up. I don't recommend it, unfortunately. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinMar 16, 2019
※The Hwahae Testers※ Skin type: Combination (dry on cheekbones, center of forehead, and chin; slightly oily elsewhere), skin inflammation from citric acid and citrus extracts, severe acne from certain natural oils, thin skin I don't usually wear makeup, but for a more accurate experience, I applied makeup on days I used this product. I was aware it contained citric acid when I joined the trial, which is why the usage period is short. Usage period: 4 evenings only Cleansing effectiveness: Slight residue of mascara and eyeshadow glitter remained Application method: Emulsify before use, but be gentle if you have thin skin Other products used: Illiyoon Remover, Gaon Dodam Cleansing Foam Pros: 1) Less slippery feeling typical of oils after cleansing 2) Natural scent 3) No stinging around the eyes during use 4) Skin feels adequately clean after use Cons: 1) No effect on pores or dead skin cells: This was my main reason for trying the product, but it didn't help 2) A large blemish appeared on the last day of use 3) Gradually became itchy due to citric acid content, leading me to stop using it 4) Price doesn't fit my budget I had hoped for a deeper cleanse on days with high pollution, but it didn't make much difference. It was a good opportunity, but I couldn't use it long-term due to the citric acid. Those with sensitivity to citric acid should be cautious! - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinOct 31, 2017
It's actually quite light. The oil emulsion works well and washes off easily. But is that all there is to it?... I'm really a die-hard cleansing oil fan. I usually don't use cleansing foams, and I have to use cleansing oils because they don't leave my skin feeling tight. But this was the first time I used a cleansing oil, and my skin felt not just tight, but actually irritated and itchy... Really tight and itchy. Because of that, I ended up scratching my skin vigorously in my sleep, and my skin got all messed up^^... I mean, for this price... Huh? The cleansing oil I used was the Shu Uemura brand... Maybe my expectations were just too high, but I'm very, very disappointed... ...I'm not really sure... For this money, I could have bought two bottles of DHA oil.... Ah... - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAtopy SkinAcne SkinJul 17, 2016
The makeup was definitely well-removed, and even though I have dry skin, there was still an oily feel left after cleansing, so I felt less tightness and a more moisturized sensation compared to using foam cleansers or other cleansers. Despite the high price, I bought it because it was said to be good, but although I normally have atopic dermatitis with a little acne only on my right cheek, after using it for 3 weeks, I had red spots around my mouth, small acne on my forehead, and an outbreak of acne on my left cheek... My whole face was itchy, and my atopic dermatitis worsened, so I ended up stopping use and have it set up for an exchange at the place of purchase... Be sure to try a sample first before buying! It says to dilute it with water in the middle, but you only need to add a tiny bit of water. If you add too much, the oil will disappear and be gone.
