One of the few cleansing oils I've used where I could actually see blackheads being removed I never realized how super sensitive my skin was until I used this. 2-3 days after using it, I was diagnosed with contact dermatitis. My face erupted in a storm of blemishes and redness. Even though I bought the large size, I had to throw it away immediately. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinApr 10, 2020
Helps with cleansing effectiveness and removing dead skin cells. After use, there's a temporary brightening effect that makes your face look radiant. This product didn't work for me. Considering the price, maybe that's a good thing(?). It seemed to irritate my skin, causing dryness and blemishes. When I went to a skincare clinic, they immediately asked if I was using oil. They advised against it, saying it could actually make my skin drier, so I passed it on to my sister. I think I'm just not compatible with oils in general, not just this product. I recommend that people like me, who might have similar reactions, research thoroughly before buying oil-based products, even if they're highly rated. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinDec 29, 2019
While searching for a cleansing oil, I heard about this famous product and bought the travel kit with 4 types at the duty-free shop. It included Ultimate Cleansing Oil, Anti/Oxi Cleansing Oil, PoreFinest Cleansing Oil, and Blanc:Chroma Cleansing Oil. I've tried two of them so far: the Anti/Oxi and the Blanc:Chroma. I bought Shu Uemura cleansing oil because I heard it was good, but it was absolutely terrible for me. It was the first time I've ever had an allergic reaction to a cosmetic product. At first, I couldn't believe it was the cause and tried to find other reasons, but after stopping use for a while and trying it again yesterday, my face broke out in an allergic reaction. The itching was unbearable. Not only my face, but my neck was affected too. My lips swelled up and my neck turned red. The itching wasn't just temporary - it lasted for quite a while and my skin condition became awful. While it might work well for some people, I'm posting this review for those who might suffer like I did. - Hwahae UserDry SkinAcne SkinNov 17, 2019
The cleansing effectiveness is great. It really helped with removing dead skin cells. I didn't notice at first, but as I continued using it, my skin would become red after applying the oil. Eventually, I developed an allergic reaction. - Hwahae UserDry SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinSep 24, 2019
It feels great when you first use it. Removes eye makeup effectively. Turns out this was the cause of my acne... I had to visit the dermatologist three times because of this product, even switching clinics. The doctor said it's a highly irritating cosmetic. Seems like it really doesn't suit some people's skin. - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinSep 11, 2019
The cleansing effectiveness is good, but I can't use it anymore after just a couple of times because it caused blemishes to appear. It makes my skin itchy, tingling, and causes blemishes to pop up. I don't recommend it, unfortunately. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinJun 30, 2019
I usually only use cleansing water, but I tried this as a sample and found it really nice. I was considering buying it, but the price was a bit steep, so I grabbed it at duty-free. This review comes after finishing an entire bottle, as shown in the photo. My skin is generally dry, but with an oily T-zone - typical combination skin. I have mild seborrheic dermatitis and sensitive skin that breaks out easily if I'm not careful. For this product, given its price, I had mixed feelings. It worked great for me in winter - removed makeup well and was excellent for gently massaging away blackheads and whiteheads. However, I noticed that when my skin wasn't in good condition, using this seemed to make things worse. It didn't help calm blemishes at all, and instead felt quite rich and potentially irritating, perhaps due to its oiliness. Honestly, there are many affordable cleansing oils with good ingredients these days. While using this, I felt it was more irritating and prone to causing breakouts rather than being a perfect match for my skin. It wasn't like this every day, depending on my skin's condition, but I don't feel the need to repurchase. Being a department store brand, it's a bit pricey. The oil seemed to irritate my skin, occasionally causing blemishes the day after use. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinMar 19, 2019
The cleansing effectiveness is really great! Personally, I didn't mind the scent either. I was feeling good about how well it cleansed, but then parts of my face turned red. My whole face became bumpy, and my skin looked like it was popping out, resembling a cobblestone bread. I even got small blemishes with tiny white inflammations all over. Looking at the ingredients on Hwahae, I noticed there were some potential allergens. I think that might be the reason. Another downside is that it's extremely expensive... For those without allergies, this would be excellent for removing excess oil due to its great cleansing power! - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinMar 17, 2019
Here's a review from The Hwahae Testers:) My skin is acne-prone, dehydrated, and sensitive. I received the product on March 8th and this review is based on my experience using it until the 18th. What I loved most about this product is that the oil isn't heavy. I usually use jojoba oil to remove blackheads, and comparing the two: Heaviness: Jojoba oil >> Shu Uemura oil Skin-enveloping feeling: Jojoba oil >> Shu Uemura oil As someone with combination dehydrated skin, I often use balm-type products instead of oils, but this oil felt as light as a balm, which I really appreciated. Secondly, I loved that the scent wasn't irritating and had a pleasant herbal aroma. I'm not a fan of strongly scented products as they make me worry about the amount of fragrance used and potential skin irritation. This product has a natural scent that feels less burdensome on the skin. Thirdly, the tight feeling after cleansing was reduced. I always wear sunscreen, so I double cleanse, which usually leaves my skin feeling very tight. After using this product, the tightness after double cleansing was significantly reduced. Before, I had to apply toner immediately to avoid discomfort, but now I can wait a bit without issues. Lastly, I appreciate the variety of sizes available. It comes in 50ml, 150ml, and 450ml, which offers a great range of choices. This is perfect for travel or outings - no need to buy separate containers to decant the oil, making my makeup bag much lighter. This was my first time trying this product as part of The Hwahae Testers, and I'm planning to purchase it duty-free next time. While I couldn't find many downsides, if I had to mention one, it would be the 50ml container they sent... In my opinion, it should dispense more product, but it doesn't, so my palm gets red before cleansing. Apart from this, I think it's a good product. When removing blackheads, I use jojoba oil first, wipe it off with a tissue, then do another round of massage with the Shu Uemura oil. This helps remove more blackheads and cleanly wipes away the jojoba oil too:) While jojoba oil feels heavy and lingers on the skin, the Shu Uemura oil is light and emulsifies well. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinMar 16, 2019
※The Hwahae Testers※ Skin type: Combination (dry on cheekbones, center of forehead, and chin; slightly oily elsewhere), skin inflammation from citric acid and citrus extracts, severe acne from certain natural oils, thin skin I don't usually wear makeup, but for a more accurate experience, I applied makeup on days I used this product. I was aware it contained citric acid when I joined the trial, which is why the usage period is short. Usage period: 4 evenings only Cleansing effectiveness: Slight residue of mascara and eyeshadow glitter remained Application method: Emulsify before use, but be gentle if you have thin skin Other products used: Illiyoon Remover, Gaon Dodam Cleansing Foam Pros: 1) Less slippery feeling typical of oils after cleansing 2) Natural scent 3) No stinging around the eyes during use 4) Skin feels adequately clean after use Cons: 1) No effect on pores or dead skin cells: This was my main reason for trying the product, but it didn't help 2) A large blemish appeared on the last day of use 3) Gradually became itchy due to citric acid content, leading me to stop using it 4) Price doesn't fit my budget I had hoped for a deeper cleanse on days with high pollution, but it didn't make much difference. It was a good opportunity, but I couldn't use it long-term due to the citric acid. Those with sensitivity to citric acid should be cautious!
