Unlike other mineral sunscreens that were too matte and emphasized dead skin cells, Dr. Alga 100 felt incredibly hydrating, which I loved. It was so moisturizing that it seemed like it wasn't absorbing. For my combination skin, it left a shiny, greasy feeling on the surface, which was disappointing. It seems to work really well when your skin is extremely dry. - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinJun 3, 2019
I loved how this brightening moisturizer gave my dark skin a natural apricot-toned glow without looking out of place. The absorption is pretty good! There's no dryness after application either. My skin used to turn red or break out in hives when I applied sunscreen and went out in the sun, but this one seems to have gentler ingredients as my skin was fine! Absolutely no eye irritation! I used to avoid most sunscreens due to eye stinging and just let my skin burn, but with this one, eye irritation simply doesn't exist! It sits on top of the skin and pills... It's somewhat okay when I only use toner, but if I add just one more skincare product, it becomes really difficult to absorb. My skin is too dry to use only toner as it leads to dead skin cells flaking off... I couldn't find a way to solve this issue. This product has a talent for uncovering blackheads and whiteheads... I don't think it would create that flawless 'egg-shell' skin if you apply foundation over it. If possible... I'd recommend this to those who prefer a natural, 'my skin but better' look, the kind of makeup that doesn't look like you're wearing any... I wouldn't really recommend layering base products over this... - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinMay 25, 2019
When applied, it gives a subtle brightening effect that naturally illuminates your face. The gentle ingredients don't cause any irritation. It leaves a dewy finish that makes your skin look beautifully radiant. The texture is a bit thick when applying. Its longevity is similar to other sunscreens, and it's easy to cleanse off. As my first time being selected for The Hwahae Testers, I wanted to write about many positives, but unfortunately, there weren't many good points. I hoped it would be better than my usual sunscreen, but it falls short. As mentioned above, the thick texture makes it cumbersome to apply, requiring a lot of rubbing. Within hours, it becomes excessively oily - even worse than usual. Perhaps because of this, I didn't try foundation over it, but when I applied concealer, the makeup didn't adhere at all. It felt like it was just sitting on top. Also, it feels suffocating and sticky, like wearing a heavy base product. I wanted a skincare-like texture, but this is the opposite. The strong scent might be off-putting for some. And, though I'm not sure if it's related, my skin texture seemed to worsen slightly. After trying it once, I didn't want to use it again, but for the sake of this review, I used it for about 4 days. The skin texture issues show no signs of improving. It doesn't seem suitable for oily skin types. Don't apply too much - use a moderate amount and gently massage it in. Make sure to set it with powder. It's probably best to avoid applying makeup over it if possible. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinMay 5, 2019
I love that it contains mineral sunscreen ingredients, so I can use it with peace of mind. It feels a bit like a makeup base, you know? Some might perceive it as leaving a white cast, but it does have a slight color-correcting effect. The application isn't as smooth as the product I used before. It seems to sit on the skin for a while before absorbing. If you think of it as a makeup base, it works wonderfully! - Hwahae UserNormal SkinApr 8, 2019
It doesn't cause blemishes or skin reactions. The texture is rich but absorbs well. The ingredients are skin-friendly. I applied my usual skincare routine (Lab No. toner > Rovectin emulsion > D'Mare essence > moisturizer + rosehip oil) and my regular amount of sunscreen (I usually use A24 sunscreen). It felt greasy, didn't absorb well, and I couldn't even apply all of it - my face felt like it was covered in an oil mask. It was so heavy that I ended up wiping it off... After leaving it in a drawer for a while, I tried again today with a reduced skincare routine (skipping the moisturizer + rosehip oil step). While applying, it felt oily, but when I put on cushion foundation, everything seemed to separate. It's like it creates a barrier preventing makeup from adhering to the skin. Trying to cover with concealer? Impossible. It feels oily yet dry at the same time. At work today, all I could think about was going home... It seems to lack truly hydrating ingredients. I prefer my usual A24 sunscreen. It might be better for days when you're not wearing makeup or for my 6-year-old son to use, since the ingredients are good. - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinFeb 19, 2019
Here's a review from The Hwahae Testers: - Incredibly gentle. Most sunscreens I've used made my eyes sting or caused itching around them. However, with Dr. Alga's sunscreen, I experienced none of that. Also, I usually get one or two small blemishes when applying sunscreen, but with Dr. Alga's, I had no breakouts at all. - It has a brightening effect. I believe this is due to the white cast from the non-nano mineral sunscreen. While this might be a drawback if used alone, when I applied cushion foundation or liquid foundation over it, it provided a nice brightening effect, making my face appear fairer. - Absorbs well. The formula has a skin-like color. Although it looked a bit stiff at first glance, it spread smoothly and evenly on my skin. - Slightly sits on top of the skin I think this is unavoidable with mineral, non-nano sunscreens. While it absorbs well, if not applied carefully, it can pill a little. - Slightly sticky feeling After applying the sunscreen and then foundation or cushion, my hair would stick to my face a bit. - Leaves marks when touched If I accidentally touched my face, it would leave a mark. The sunscreen and foundation would transfer onto my hands. - Might not be suitable for summer I think it would come off easily when sweating... I believe this sunscreen would work well for those with super sensitive skin, as it's non-irritating. If you want to improve the adherence to your skin, avoid using too many rich skincare products underneath!
