First off, the ingredients are great. I bought it after seeing it on TV. I have sensitive skin, but I haven't had any adverse reactions yet. It's quite nice for daily use. I'm not sure about its sun protection effectiveness though. I didn't particularly notice less tanning, but it seemed generally fine. I've been using this for a while, and after some use, the oil and cream started to separate. You can mix it up before use, but it's really inconvenient to apply. The cream part keeps slipping off due to the oil, often falling to the floor. As a result, I end up applying mostly the cream part to my face, which drastically reduces how well it absorbs. It becomes very thick and doesn't improve skin texture after application. This is my first tube, but I don't think I'll be repurchasing. - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinJun 5, 2019
I previously had a bad reaction to a chemical sunscreen I liked, so I've been sticking to mineral sunscreens since then. I was thrilled to be selected as a Hwahae Tester to try this one out! As someone who's tried various mineral sunscreens, I absolutely love this one! First, there's barely any white cast. I consider white cast to be the biggest drawback of mineral sunscreens, but this one has almost none. On days when I don't feel like wearing makeup, I just apply this and conceal a few blemishes before heading out. I usually dislike how mineral sunscreens make me look pale, but this one doesn't, so I wouldn't even mind using it on my body. Secondly, it creates a perfect base for makeup. I have oily skin, so I keep my daytime skincare routine light before makeup (just toner and tea tree oil). This sunscreen has a really smooth texture that seems to create the ideal canvas for makeup. My foundation has a lot of powder ingredients and can be quite dry, but when I apply it over this sunscreen, it goes on smoothly without any dryness. It's amazing! Lastly, this sunscreen doesn't pill. Many mineral sunscreens pill when applied thickly, but this one doesn't, even with a generous layer. No more ruined makeup due to pilling... never again! And it's not sticky at all! The only downsides are: 1. The application isn't great, but considering that most mineral sunscreens aren't easy to apply, it's not unbearably bad. 2. It feels a bit heavy. The smooth texture makes it feel somewhat heavy when used alone. It might be difficult for those with oily skin to use, but if you have dry skin, you could probably apply it like a cream without feeling dry! Here's how I, with my oily skin, use this sunscreen: Light skincare > Dr. Alga sunscreen > Powdery foundation. When I use it this way, my makeup doesn't separate, it applies well, and looks great! I don't even touch my old sunscreen anymore! - Hwahae UserOily SkinAtopy SkinAcne SkinJun 4, 2019
Here's a review from The Hwahae Testers! First off, I loved how gentle the ingredients are! Surprisingly, it didn't cause any blemishes! I have super sensitive skin, and even though I usually use products with good ingredients, I sometimes get small pimples if I don't cleanse properly. But with this, I had no issues at all. Yesterday, I accidentally fell asleep without cleansing, but my skin was still clear in the morning! It's a brightening moisturizer, but it doesn't go on stark white. Instead, it creates a natural skin-colored base that subtly covers imperfections while brightening your complexion. If you're looking for a white cast, I'd recommend something else, but for everyone else, this is perfect! It's genuinely hydrating. Usually, when something's described as moisturizing, it can feel a bit oily, you know? But this feels like pure hydration, which I really appreciated. Although I've listed more cons, overall I'm satisfied as it doesn't cause blemishes and works well for me. While it does cover some imperfections as I mentioned, it's not really a coverage product, so I wouldn't recommend it for concealing skin issues. The scent might be hit or miss due to the natural ingredients. Personally, I wasn't a fan, but it doesn't linger after application, so it wasn't a big issue. The texture is quite runny, but since I'm used to sunscreens with a toner-like consistency, it felt a bit thick to me. So it took a bit more time to apply. It also didn't spread easily on areas with more sweat or oil. However, if you're used to thicker sunscreens, this shouldn't be a problem! The finish wasn't very smooth. When I squeezed it onto the back of my hand, it felt a bit gritty. It was fine when applied gently, but you might want to test it first just to be safe. - Hwahae UserOily SkinSensitive SkinJun 3, 2019
Here's my review as one of The Hwahae Testers: 1. Ingredients I have oily, sensitive skin. Usually, when I use cosmetics that don't suit my skin, I immediately get blemishes. However, this product is so gentle that it didn't cause any breakouts! 1. Dry texture I prefer sunscreens with a moisturizing texture, but this one feels a bit dry when applying. It's a shame it doesn't glide on smoothly, which makes me feel like it might be slightly irritating to the skin. The texture was the biggest disappointment for me. Mixing it with a bit of toner helps improve the application. 2. White cast I believe sunscreens shouldn't leave a white cast, but this product does have a slight one, though it's not too severe. 3. Oiliness As I have oily skin, after some time, it tends to build up around the sides of my nose and T-zone. If you find the texture too dry, try mixing it with some toner for a smoother application! - Hwahae UserNormal SkinJun 2, 2019
This is a review from The Hwahae Testers. 1. White cast There was hardly any white cast. I apply foundation over sunscreen, so I don't worry about white cast, but those who prefer it might find this product slightly disappointing. 2. Amount control The narrow tube opening makes it easy to control the amount. 3. Non-nano + Silicone-free + Mineral filters These are the advantages Dr. Alga 100 Sunscreen proudly advertises. With good ingredients and being a physical sunscreen that's non-nano, I think it would be suitable for young children too. 4. High SPF With such high UV levels these days, SPF 30 is too low, but Dr. Alga 100 Sunscreen is SPF 50, which is great. 1. Application It's a bit thicker compared to other brands' (LRDL) sunscreens. 2. Shininess It leaves a shiny finish when applied, which I personally don't like, so this was disappointing for me. 3. Blemishes Despite having good ingredients, this sunscreen didn't seem to agree with my skin as I developed some pustular acne after use. Please note that I'm prone to pustular acne normally, but I'm mentioning this because my skin was quite calm before using this sunscreen. You need to cleanse thoroughly when using physical sunscreens. I usually do oil cleansing twice + foam cleansing once. Also, since physical sunscreens work by physically reflecting sunlight, you don't necessarily need to apply it 30 minutes before going out - you can apply it right before leaving. Just make sure to apply a generous amount. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinJun 1, 2019
1. Natural brightening effect + Radiant glow I'm someone who uses this sunscreen as a makeup base. The product color itself is skin-toned, giving it a slight BB cream feel. It brightens the overall complexion, which some might perceive as a white cast, but personally, I found it to be a natural brightening effect :) If you apply it thoroughly until it's fully absorbed into the skin, it's closer to a brightening effect rather than a white cast! (However, the absorption is a bit challenging, so getting it to fully absorb can feel a bit stiff ㅠㅠ) Also, when applied, it gives a radiant glow, making it perfect for achieving that glowing skin look! (This point might be a drawback for those with oily skin ㅠㅠ) 2. Gentle ingredients Despite having sensitive skin, I used this product for several days, even adding powder on top, and experienced no blemishes at all! 1. Absorption The texture isn't extremely thick and feels quite moisturizing, but it applies with a slightly stiff feeling. So, you need to moisturize your skin well before using this product. It might be a bit dry for those with dry skin. ** Due to its stiff application, it might be hit or miss for dry skin types, and because of the glow, it could be divisive for oily skin types! 2. Price Nowadays, many brands are releasing decent sunscreens, so at this price point, it might be difficult for those who haven't tried it to take the plunge. - Hwahae UserOily SkinSensitive SkinMay 25, 2019
Here's a review from one of The Hwahae Testers: First off, I have super oily and extremely sensitive skin that's prone to breakouts. But here's what I loved about this product: ➡️ It didn't cause any small blemishes or red bumps on my face! ➡️ My face didn't feel puffy or have that white cast, which was a relief. Unfortunately, there were more downsides than I'd like: ▶️ The stickiness - ugh! Maybe it's because of my oily skin, but it felt uncomfortably sticky. (Thank goodness for oil-control powder!) ▶️ It's thick and doesn't spread easily. The instructions say you can apply it to your face, neck, arms, and legs, but the texture is so thick that it's really difficult to apply. ▶️ No brightening effect. The color is similar to a BB cream, but once applied, it doesn't even out your skin tone at all. If you're looking for a brightening moisturizer, you might want to try something else. ▶️ Gets oily over time. Since it's not a mattifying product, oil tends to build up on the nose and T-zone area as time passes. A tip for those with oily skin! Try applying oil-control powder after this sunscreen. It seems to help control shine and keep your skin feeling fresh for longer. - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinMay 25, 2019
I love how this sunscreen applies as lightly as an emulsion. The ingredients are gentle, and it even brightens my complexion. I've been using it a lot lately and really enjoying it. After application, I wonder if it gives off too much of a glow? It also feels a bit stiff on the skin. Be careful not to apply too much, or your skin will look extremely pale! Controlling the amount is essential. - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinMay 25, 2019
When applied, it gives a subtle brightening effect that naturally illuminates your face. The gentle ingredients don't cause any irritation. It leaves a dewy finish that makes your skin look beautifully radiant. The texture is a bit thick when applying. Its longevity is similar to other sunscreens, and it's easy to cleanse off. As my first time being selected for The Hwahae Testers, I wanted to write about many positives, but unfortunately, there weren't many good points. I hoped it would be better than my usual sunscreen, but it falls short. As mentioned above, the thick texture makes it cumbersome to apply, requiring a lot of rubbing. Within hours, it becomes excessively oily - even worse than usual. Perhaps because of this, I didn't try foundation over it, but when I applied concealer, the makeup didn't adhere at all. It felt like it was just sitting on top. Also, it feels suffocating and sticky, like wearing a heavy base product. I wanted a skincare-like texture, but this is the opposite. The strong scent might be off-putting for some. And, though I'm not sure if it's related, my skin texture seemed to worsen slightly. After trying it once, I didn't want to use it again, but for the sake of this review, I used it for about 4 days. The skin texture issues show no signs of improving. It doesn't seem suitable for oily skin types. Don't apply too much - use a moderate amount and gently massage it in. Make sure to set it with powder. It's probably best to avoid applying makeup over it if possible. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinMay 10, 2019
I bought this because it's silicone-free, non-nano, and has good ingredients. It doesn't have the typical dryness of mineral sunscreens. It provides a moderate brightening effect, and you can control the level of coverage by layering. The scent is pleasant, without that typical sunscreen smell. I applied it generously as usual and didn't experience any blemishes. Even on days when I was too tired to cleanse my face, I didn't break out. It doesn't have long-lasting power, so it's easy to remove. The application feels a bit heavy and sticky. The initial brightening effect turns into oiliness after 30 minutes. Personally, I dislike products without a brightening effect, and honestly, it's disappointing that it doesn't maintain the brightening at all. Moreover, while it's not drying, it becomes so oily that it's really stressful to have each strand of hair sticking to my face when I let my hair down after applying this. It's problematic to use on windy days if you wear your hair down. I'm used to products that provide a moderate brightening effect with a powdery finish, but this one falls short. Without a sale, it's quite expensive, and I probably won't repurchase. While it doesn't sting my eyes, if applied too close, it becomes oily and blurs my vision, which is uncomfortable. The areas where I've separated my hair with my fingers end up looking patchy, requiring touch-ups. It's a very annoying texture. I've been using this by lightly applying it over a more powdery or drying sunscreen to reduce dryness, layering it bit by bit. If you apply this product alone in large amounts, it pills. When you apply cushion foundation over this sunscreen, it seems to mix completely with the cushion, making it feel like you didn't apply sunscreen at all.
