There's nothing particularly good about it. I guess the only positive is that it's non-nano and silicone-free? It's incredibly thick and greasy. As soon as you apply it to your face, it pills up like dirt. I've never experienced a sunscreen like this before... And after wearing it all day, I noticed blemishes popping up by the evening. Sigh... - Hwahae UserNormal SkinAug 12, 2021
What I love most about this product is its exceptional ingredient list. It's not easy to find a sunscreen with such a great formulation, but this one really stands out with its overall composition. The sun protection is excellent too. I particularly appreciate that it uses physical UV filters. The price point is on the higher side. It's also a bit greasier than I expected, which can cause makeup to pill or separate slightly. (I'd say the oiliness level is similar to the Hera Sun Mate Daily.) When applying, you might feel a slight warming sensation, but that's probably unavoidable with mineral sunscreens. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinJul 21, 2021
I love that it doesn't sting my eyes and has a slight corrective effect. I was worried it might cause blemishes, but it's actually quite nice! It tends to pill a bit when applying makeup. Also, it has a slightly matte finish. - Hwahae UserNormal SkinSensitive SkinAug 3, 2020
I bought this product with confidence because of its great ingredients! As someone who pays close attention to ingredients, I'm using it well, but I might have to switch due to how it feels on my skin. When I'm applying makeup, if my base becomes even slightly thick, this sunscreen causes pilling and makes all my makeup slide off. When I sweat, it leaves white streaks. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAtopy SkinSensitive SkinMar 22, 2020
I chose this product for its excellent ingredients. I love how convenient it is to remove with just water. The way it absorbs, the moisturizing effect after application, and the natural base color are all satisfying. There's a bit of pilling when applied after my night cream. However, this doesn't happen with regular creams. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinFeb 21, 2020
For a mineral sunscreen, it absorbs surprisingly well. It also seems to be less irritating to the skin. After some time, there's a bit of pilling or flaking, almost like dead skin cells coming off. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinJul 14, 2019
The ingredients seem great! I have acne-prone, sensitive skin, but I've been using this without any blemishes popping up. There's a slight white cast, which actually provides a natural brightening effect. While it's moisturizing, it feels more like a rich, oily kind of hydration? This might be a bit too greasy for those with oily or combination dehydrated skin. Also, when I apply makeup over this product, I experience pilling. I think it's because of how rich it is. - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinJun 3, 2019
I loved how this brightening moisturizer gave my dark skin a natural apricot-toned glow without looking out of place. The absorption is pretty good! There's no dryness after application either. My skin used to turn red or break out in hives when I applied sunscreen and went out in the sun, but this one seems to have gentler ingredients as my skin was fine! Absolutely no eye irritation! I used to avoid most sunscreens due to eye stinging and just let my skin burn, but with this one, eye irritation simply doesn't exist! It sits on top of the skin and pills... It's somewhat okay when I only use toner, but if I add just one more skincare product, it becomes really difficult to absorb. My skin is too dry to use only toner as it leads to dead skin cells flaking off... I couldn't find a way to solve this issue. This product has a talent for uncovering blackheads and whiteheads... I don't think it would create that flawless 'egg-shell' skin if you apply foundation over it. If possible... I'd recommend this to those who prefer a natural, 'my skin but better' look, the kind of makeup that doesn't look like you're wearing any... I wouldn't really recommend layering base products over this... - Hwahae UserDry SkinAtopy SkinSensitive SkinMay 29, 2019
Dr. Alga Mineral Sunscreen - The Hwahae Testers Review 🌹🧐 I've never tried a mineral sunscreen before, so I just casually applied for this event. I couldn't believe I actually won... What a score! 🎉🎉 My skin type is extremely dry and super sensitive! Usually, I'm fine with my regular products, but if I suddenly switch or get too stressed, my skin can turn red and irritated within hours or by the next day. Being dry, I especially feel a stinging sensation when my skin gets sensitive. I used this product daily from May 23rd to May 29th, exactly for a week, and here are my honest thoughts! 😊 ☑️Pros ✔️Despite being a mineral sunscreen, which I expected to be chalky and drying, it has no white cast at all and doesn't dry out my skin. Maybe it's blended with some chemical filters? I'm baffled by comments mentioning a white cast... There's none at all..? ✔️The best part is how it tackles deep dryness in summer! Chemical sunscreens can feel too sticky and heavy in summer, but this one keeps my skin hydrated deep down. It feels moisturizing at first, then settles to a comfortably matte finish in about 3-5 minutes without any stickiness. This is absolutely true... 👍🏻 ✔️As someone with dry skin, I always thought mineral sunscreens would be too drying, so I'd never tried one before. But this opportunity completely won me over! It's perfectly moisturizing yet comfortably matte for summer, which is the main reason I've been recommending it to friends. I didn't experience the dryness over time that some people mentioned. ✔️I especially loved how light it felt, as I usually don't wear makeup and just apply skincare and sunscreen for school, only doing full makeup about once a week. It gives my skin a clean, subtle glow - not oily, just a nice, even complexion. When I used to wear only chemical sunscreen to school, my face would get oily and shiny over time, but with this one, there's no excess oil. I love the subtle glow without any white cast. ✔️Focusing on my skin's reaction, I was worried about breakouts or redness when I first used it, but it seems to be gentle enough. My whole face felt a bit tingly for the first day or two, but by the third day, that sensation was gone. I guess it was just my skin adapting to the new product, haha. ☑️Cons ✔️While it's not severe, I can't say there's absolutely no eye irritation when applied around the eyes. I have a habit of rubbing my eyes often, and it stings a bit each time. So I'd recommend avoiding the eye area. ✔️The biggest drawback is that it pills when I apply makeup, which I do about once a week for a full face look. This is a major con!!!!!! On makeup days, I'm extra careful not to rub my eyes to avoid irritation, but the skin just doesn't look as nice. It pills even when I use the same foundation and powder I used with my chemical sunscreen, despite using the same skincare routine. I'm not sure why this happens..? I've tried fully absorbing it before applying makeup, partially absorbing it, using different tools like puffs and brushes, but it just doesn't seem to play well with base makeup.. It all pills ☹️ I guess chemical sunscreens are still the way to go for makeup days.. When worn alone, it feels like it adheres perfectly to the skin, but once I layer on base makeup, it's just not great! If you don't wear makeup daily like me, it might not be a big issue, but if you plan to use this sunscreen daily under makeup, I wouldn't recommend it 👎🏻 ✔️It has a scent similar to paper soap, which I don't mind, but some of my friends dislike it. If you're sensitive to scents, you might want to consider this. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinSensitive SkinMay 27, 2019
For reference, this review is based on using the product for just over a week after being selected as a Hwahae Tester. When I first dispensed it onto the back of my hand, it came out quite thick, making me worry it might emphasize dead skin cells or not blend well. However, I was surprised by how nicely it absorbed! It spread smoothly, which I appreciated. As expected with a mineral sunscreen, there was some white cast, but it had a peachy tint that gave a subtle brightening effect of about half a shade rather than making my face look ghostly. Above all, I have sensitive skin that can break out if sunscreens don't agree with me, but I had no such issues with this one, which was great. While it absorbs well for a mineral sunscreen, the product itself tends to be drying once applied. This can lead to some pilling or makeup not sitting well when applied over it. It's not entirely suitable as a pre-makeup sunscreen. Applying the sunscreen with an air puff works much better than using your hands. If you find the brightening effect insufficient, try mixing it with another makeup base product for better results.
